Today we have a different listening experience for you. Recently Tanya and I were invited to speak at an online event, hosted by our friends from the Re:Think Community - called ‘Launching a Podcast During a Pandemic’. Charlotte Han, our favourite futurist and dear friend of the podcast moderated this chat been Daniel, Tanya and I.
Daniel Fuerg is the founder of the mega-successful European conference ‘48 Forward’ & founder of ‘The 48 Forward Studios’ (a top-notch podcasting studio based in Munich.) Daniel and his team have produced over 500 episodes since the start of the pandemic (which is a lot), they have 7 podcasts they personally run, and his podcast called ‘Gin and Talk’ recently made it to the Trending List on the German Apple Podcast charts.
As you’ll hear, your #GrowGetters team, Tiff, and Tan also sat on the panel. Nearly 12 months ago we dropped our pilot episode of the podcast, and it’s honestly head-spinning to see where we’ve come since then. We had no idea how our passion project would take on a life of its own and grow to be an international podcast - listened to by women (and men) in Australia, NZ, south-east Asia, Europe, the UK, and the US.
Tens of thousands of downloads later, with world-class guests featured on our show, and ranking in the top 20 career podcasts in Australia and top 5 in New Zealand (not to mention in Germany, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic) we could have never imagined that our pod-baby could achieve all this. And it’s all because of you!! Our loyal listeners that we hope we are inspiring each week to future proof your businesses and careers.

Welcome to GrowGetters - the future skills podcast. You may remember, in Season 1, Episode 8 we covered the Art of the Pitch which delved into a couple of methods to craft a killer pitch.
So in today’s episode, we speak from our experience of what the real Dos and Don’t of pitching are. We were super lucky enough this year to pitch our business a number of times - and to pretty decent success!
We pitched GrowGetters to a panel of industry experts in August and won a coveted spot as a fellow for a 9-month media startup incubation program and grant with Media Lab Bayern - one of Europe’s leading media tech innovation hubs.
We also pitched against 100 other female startups in the XATHON hackathon - one of Europe’s biggest women’s tech events - and were selected as a finalist ranking number 5!
So in other words, we have sharpened our pitch game and learned so much over the last 12 months, and we want to share those learnings with YOU!
In this episode, we take a quick step back to remind us of why it’s such an important exercise to create and refine your business pitch.
And when we say business, this can just as easily apply to you as a personal brand, and of course if you’re also a side hustler.
Sharpening your pitching skills FORCES you to hone in on the most critical and important aspects of your venture.
In a pitch situation, you only get 3 minutes, and maybe up to 6 minutes if you’re lucky, to share to your audience what you do, why it’s necessary, and why people should buy from you and not others.
In this episode we dive into:
- How to structure a winning pitch
- The biggest Dos and Don’ts when it comes to pitching
- Our #1 “FLEARLING” (failure + learning = flearning) (thanks to Anita Siek for the term) we’ve made from tightening up our pitch game this game.
- And our secret sauce tip you HAVE to include in your pitch at all costs.

32. How to create compelling content that moves people with copywriting expert, Anita Siek
GrowGetters
07/15/20 • 49 min
Hey guys! Welcome to #GrowGetters – the future skills podcast for smart women in business. Whether you’re crushing it in your career, your super side-hustle, or your lady startup – we have got you covered!
Today we have a very special guest joining us on the poddy. Anita Siek is the Founder and Director of Wordfetti, a human-centered brand strategy copywriting studio in Australia which is dedicated to helping brands stand out through strategic thinking, consumer psychology, and their absolutely brilliant wordsmithery. She’s also the host of Brandfetti (a wildly successful podcast that is consistently in the top ranks for marketing on the Apple Podcast charts).
From our perspective, Anita is one of the best in the business. She followed an extremely nontraditional path to copy-writing. She wasn't a journalist, nor did she have 20 years experience in PR, or Marketing under her belt. She actually was a lawyer when her love of words and the power to understand how, what, and why they need to be nurtured grew.
Anita is a true entrepreneur that side hustled Wordfetti and Brandfetti whilst working in her role as a corporate lawyer. 3-4 years on, Wordfetti now has a waiting list of customers, an online shop, and a super successful online course that’s going gangbusters.
Last year she was named one of the top 50 Instapreneurial Female Creators by Milkshake (a service from Envato) and Frankie Magazine.
Anita has so so much goodness to share and we are so thankful to have her on the podcast this week. She will help us to further understand the importance of language when it comes to communicating value and creating connections for your business or brand.
So without further adieu, lets dive into this week’s episode.
