Sagi Dovev dedicates most of his waking hours to training and rehabilitating young IDF soldiers whose injuries range from post op rehab to single & multiple limb amputees to head traumas. Sagi’s dedication to many of these soldiers began prior to Oct 7th, training them in their combat units in mental and physical resilience. The connection he builds with his guys is steeped in a mutual respect of trusting the process of rebuilding the post injured soldier’s mind and body from the ground up. It is through these grueling training sessions that the definition of resiliency is exemplified.

Bet Elazraki, is a children’s home in Israel. Over the past 35 years, Director Yehuda Kohn and his wife Riki have raised over 500 children, in addition to their 5 biological children. Yehuda believes that being a parent isn’t just about bringing a child into the world, parenting is about raising children in a home where they are loved, supported and nurtured, so that one day, they too can become parents and raise their children with similar values. I spoke separately with Yehuda, Shira - one of the director’s of his girls study programs as well as Mali & Maayan, 2 graduates from the children’s home. My conversations illuminated Bet Elazraki’s success in creating family where resiliency and love endures well beyond childhood.

Yamen Lawrence is a proud Arab Israeli gay activist. He was raised in Nazareth where he had to hide his identity while enduring years of emotional and physical bullying from fellow Arab classmates. When coming out to his Muslim family, many disowned him. Yamen now lives in Tel Aviv, openly gay and a member of a vibrant, thriving and supportive community where living his truth is both protected and celebrated.
