The Promised Savior

Gospel Grace Church Sermon Audio
Luke 2:1-21 - Speaker: Will Galkin - All of the promises of God are connected to Christ. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 1:20, “For all the promises of God find their Yes in him.” We can rejoice that the promises of God are trustworthy and backed by His sovereignty. The King of the Universe works all things according to His plan. He is not threatened or thwarted by the schemes of man. When we consider the Good News of Christ coming to this earth to save sinners, we should worship. We ought to join with the angels and say, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased.”

Jesus is Our Hope for the Holidays

Luke 2:22-35 - Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Christmas is a season of hope. Some are hoping to get that gift at the top of their list. Others are hoping to enjoy time with family and friends. Still others are just hoping for some peace, rest, or joy this season. The fact is most people are looking forward to something or someone at this time of year. Such was the case in Luke 2:22-35, where we encounter an old man filled with hope. But he wasn’t waiting for a present or some time off work. He wasn’t preparing for a visiting family member from out of town. He was hoping for the consolation of Israel. He wanted to see the Messiah before he died. Wrinkled, old Simeon longed for an encounter with Jesus. That was his Christmas hope. Is it yours this season? May the Lord transform our wish lists so that Jesus is our hope.

Rejoicing in the Prince of Peace

Isaiah 9:1-7 - Speaker: Lukus Counterman - All the way back in Genesis 3, the Fall brought hostility, brokenness, and separation to human existence. But things would not always be ruined. People would not remain distant and harsh toward one another forever. A promised child, a Messiah would come to earth with healing in his wings. He would establish a Kingdom of peace and bring such restoration that the mountains and hills would burst into song. Peace would flow like a river. You can almost hear the rippling brook when Jesus said words like, “Peace be with you.” It seemed as though every time he preached the gospel, he was proclaiming “the good news of peace.” When Christ finally went to the cross, “the punishment that brought us peace was laid upon him.” So, this Christmas, let’s remember the Prince of Peace who offers reconciliation and rest for every aspect of life. (Isaiah 9:6-7a) “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.”
