We asked our members what the number one piece of advice they’d give to someone grieving and in this episode we share the best ones.
Themes of overwhelm arise and how to handle it, along with the stages of grief and how they vary. There’s some really sweet and beautiful advice that we wish we’d been given when we first lost our parents. And there’s also some simple practical advice too.
There’s something for everyone in this episode and we can’t wait for you to hear it.
Enjoy.

How To Prepare For The Loss of a Loved One. Emma's Journey Losing Her Dad | Good Grief #11
Good Grief
11/27/23 • 58 min
In this episode, Calie interviews her friend Emma Barnes about her experience with anticipatory grief. Emma's dad, Geoff, was diagnosed with bowel cancer twice. The first time, he received treatment and went into remission for five years. However, the cancer returned aggressively, spreading through his body. Emma and her family were devastated by the news, but held onto hope and faith in God.
When discussing anticipatory grief, Emma emphasizes the importance of talking about one's feelings and finding a safe space to share them. She talks about therapy in processing her emotions and working through the grief. She also shares ways of keeping her dad’s memory alive.
The one-year anniversary of Geoff’s passing was hard for Emma, as it marked the completion of the checklist of "firsts" without her dad. To honor and celebrate Geoff’s life, Emma shares how she’s planning to continue traditions, visit certain places and get tattooed.
