Good Grief

The Good Grief Podcast is a space to get real about grief – the messy, painful, and overwhelming parts – while also finding hope and meaning in the process. Hosted by Ryan and Calie Bowles, each episode dives deep into the heart of what it means to grieve, featuring personal stories, expert advice, and honest conversations with others who’ve walked this road too.

Whether you're searching for practical coping strategies, faith-filled encouragement, or simply someone who understands, this podcast is for you. It’s not about fixing the pain – it’s about learning to live through it, finding peace, and eventually, discovering your purpose again.

Tune in, join the conversation, and remember: you’re not alone on this journey.

Big love,
Ryan & Calie Bowles

In this episode, Calie interviews her friend Emma Barnes about her experience with anticipatory grief. Emma's dad, Geoff, was diagnosed with bowel cancer twice. The first time, he received treatment and went into remission for five years. However, the cancer returned aggressively, spreading through his body. Emma and her family were devastated by the news, but held onto hope and faith in God.

When discussing anticipatory grief, Emma emphasizes the importance of talking about one's feelings and finding a safe space to share them. She talks about therapy in processing her emotions and working through the grief. She also shares ways of keeping her dad’s memory alive.

The one-year anniversary of Geoff’s passing was hard for Emma, as it marked the completion of the checklist of "firsts" without her dad. To honor and celebrate Geoff’s life, Emma shares how she’s planning to continue traditions, visit certain places and get tattooed.
