Good As New

Hot on the heels of girl dinner comes girl math: a strategy for justifying large or unnecessary purchases. The calculations behind girl math aren't new, but the way we talk about those calculations — by rooting them in the collective experience of being a woman and the thrill of allowing yourself a treat or splurge — is. And while some people have shamed this trend as enabling overspending, girl math is just not that serious. For real. It's simply our silly way of justifying those purchases that we were going to make anyway. Instead of feeling shame about indulging every once in a while, girl math allows us to luxuriate in a new cashmere coat that we got with a gift card - which means it was basically free. Listen in as we girl math our way to feeling good as new.

I AM NOT WELL: Death, Depression, and Getting Dumped

In the days after your loved one's death, did anyone say to you, "You're so strong" or another variation on that theme? If so, how did it make you feel? Jaj's husband C.J. passed away one year ago Sunday and on this one-year anniversary, she's feeling very different than she thought she would.
She is sick of being strong and she's tired of being an inspiration...and she's sad. To top it off, she got dumped...and we didn't even get to tell you she was dating. Strength in the context of grief is much different than most accepted definitions. Doing simple tasks like getting up, taking care of others, and making sure life moves forward is brave as hell, but it feels like the opposite. Jaj is in a funk and she's sick of being an inspiration for people and being strong. It may be one year later but we're just now learning that healing and feeling 'good as new' is a much longer and tougher road than we anticipated.
But maybe the biggest lesson we learned over the past year? That sometimes showing weakness is the strongest thing of all.

She’s a serial entrepreneur, had 5 kids under eight, established and ran a well-known cheer gym, and has established a high-end boutique medical spa that caters to the who’s-who of Utah, Maven Medical Arts. And she’s Rylee’s mom! We discuss her journey, how she worked her way through various passions, and how her belief in her vision and leaning into her abilities has allowed her to create one success after another. She and her partner, Brooke Anderson have created a brand that’s well known and has thrived (despite opening right before the pandemic hit) due to their dedication to continued education, setting and maintaining industry standards (both Emily and Brooke are national trainers for 2 of the largest medical aesthetic companies in their industry), and developing a culture of natural-looking aesthetic enhancements. We get to the bottom of celebrity faces and where they go wrong, what treatments to skip, and we find out if she’s really determining how many units of Botox we need as she’s talking to people. Medical aesthetic enhancements are a hot topic but we love that this is something people can indulge in to help them feel good as new!
Ready to start your own aesthetic journey? Use code GOODASNEW30 to get 30% OFF your treatment during the month of September!
