God’s Family Plan: Establishing Generational Blessing

God’s Family Plan: Establishing Generational Blessing

Dave & Kathie Burnett

God has a family plan for each of us (Psalm 68:5-6), a plan to prosper and not harm us (Jeremiah 29:11). For some, the thought that God would use family, especially their family, as an instrument of blessing may be unthinkable, even troubling. Regardless of the dysfunction, abuse, rejection or abandonment we may associate with our personal family experience, God’s Family Plan offers a strategy for redemption and recovery. Holy Spirit is inviting all of us to establish the foundation of generational blessing according to the biblical principles and perspective of God’s family plan. God's Family Plan: Establishing Generational Blessing is available in paperback on Amazon.com.

The title and concept for this session can be found in Chapter Two of a book my wife Kathie and I published in 2019 entitled “God’s Family Plan: Establishing Generational Blessing,” This book is available in the RockAware.co Online Store and on Amazon.

I want to make some quick comments before we get into today’s podcast:

1. In this Session, Scripture readings are usually taken from the Amplified Bible, unless otherwise noted.

2. You may have some questions regarding the suitability of Passover as a topic of study for modern era Christians. Please bear with me. I hope to address most of those concerns as we move through the material in today’s Session.

3. As an introduction and to add some context, I am going to move us through a really, really condensed version of Genesis 1:1 through Exodus 10: 29. So, let’s get started.

From before the beginning, from before time began, God had a plan. In the book Genesis, God began unveiling His plan in time. His plan from before time, was implemented in the household of Adam and Eve.

As succeeding generations were born, the household of Adam and Eve became a family. As families multiplied, they became tribes. As the tribes multiplied, they became a nation.

In the concluding chapters of the Book of Genesis, the focus is upon the household of Jacob, son of Isaac, and grandson of Abraham. As the result of a great famine, Jacob and his household were forced to relocate from their homeland in Canaan into the land of Egypt. The 50th and final Chapter of Genesis records the burial of Jacob.

Moving into the Book of Exodus, we find that over a period of more than 400 years the household of Jacob had grown into what would become known as the nation of Israel, a people so numerous that Pharaoh, King of Egypt feared them. Out of this fear, the Egyptians made slaves of the Israelites and even sought to kill their boy babies.

Hearing the cries of the Israelites, God sent them a deliverer by the name of Moses. At the hand of Moses, God brought nine mighty and awful plagues against Egypt as a part of His plan to secure Israel’s freedom. It is at the point of a 10th and final plague we enter the story of Passover, The Passover Paradigm, and God’s Timeless Household Strategy.

With that introduction, I want to keep on track as we move through this Session by focusing on the answers to four questions:

1. What is Passover?

2. Why should I care about Passover?

3. Why should I teach my children about Passover?

4. And finally, What is the Passover Paradigm?

Today's podcast unpacks 3 principles that can be activated in times of transition and change, and even in chaos and confusion, much like the times and seasons we are living in today.

Here’s a recap -

· Remember the prophetic words that have been spoken over you!

· Remember the Word of God!

· Remember who is fighting with you!

Let’s also remember and think about the phrase “be strong and courageous.” These words were spoken by Moses 3 times, by Joshua 3 times and once again by the people. That means this prophetic word was repeated a total of 7 times. In scripture, whenever words are repeated, it’s an indication that something is being emphasized, probably because of its importance. That certainly seems to be the case with this phrase.

Be strong and courageous” are also important words for us today.

Let’s take a quick look at a couple of New Testament passages that emphasize these words.

‘Be strong’ is found in Ephesians 6:10-20. This is Paul’s discourse about putting on the whole armor of God and spiritual warfare. Here’s the end of verse 10 as it’s written in The Passion Translation -

Be supernaturally infused with strength through your life-union with the Lord Jesus. Stand victorious with the force of His explosive power flowing in and through you.

And what about the word ‘courage?

I’m reminded of the time the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water in the midst of a storm. It’s recorded in both Matthew 14 and Mark 6. Here are verses 50 & 51 of Mark 6 in The Passion Translation -

[They] screamed out in terror. But he said to them at once,

“Don’t yield to fear. Have courage. It’s really me—I Am!”

Then he came closer and climbed into the boat with them, and immediately the stormy wind became still. They were completely and utterly overwhelmed with astonishment . . . .

These are just 2 examples of the use of the words ‘strong’ and ‘courageous’ in the New Testament, but there are many others.

Whenever you’re in a challenging situation, it can be helpful to remember to ‘be strong and courageous’. The words Moses and Joshua spoke to the people centuries ago are just as relevant now as they were then.

Along with remembering these words, it is important to speak them, pray them, decree and declare them. This is a ‘peh season’. That means “speak up.” Psalm 81:10 says it well. Here it is in The Passion Translation -

I am your only God, the living God.
Wasn’t I the one who broke the strongholds over you
and raised you up out of bondage?
Open your mouth with a mighty decree;
I will fulfill it now, you’ll see!
The words that you speak, so shall it be!

I believe Psalm 81:10 is a now word and it will also be an important word for next year – the Hebrew Year 5781 that is as known as 2021 in the Gregorian calendar.

‘Be strong and courageous’

Speak those words over yourself. Pray into them. Repeat, decree and declare them. Believe for victory in every battle! As you do, you will be changed. You will be empowered for every battle. You will be equipped to enter in and possess your promised land!

I decree and declare over you today that you are activated to:

  • Remember all the prophetic words that have been spoken over you in the past!
  • Remember the Word of God and find the now word of the Lord for you in your current situation!
  • Remember who is fighting with you! You are not alone! He will never leave you nor forsake you!

I decree and declare that you and all your loved ones are fully equipped, enabled and empowered to be strong and courageous!

2020 will go down in history as a time of danger. It will also be remembered as a time when we made decisions that will shape our destiny as individuals, households and as a nation for years, decades and generations to come. Let me say that again, 2020 is a year that will set the course of our destiny as individuals, households and as a nation for years, decades and generations to come.

In this pivotal year, as a Christian, I believe that it is essential that we look beyond the media, beyond the political voices, beyond our own private opinions and prejudices. As we search for meaning and resolution to this season of COVID-19, social upheaval and political antagonism, it is vital that we look to Scripture for answers. It is also essential to listen to the voice of Holy Spirit for direction, correction and encouragement in this trying and uncertain time.

John 16:13 in the Amplified tells us....

But when He, the Spirit of Truth , comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].

As I have studied Scripture and listened for the voice of Holy Spirit regarding the truth about this time and season, I have been drawn to the story of David the future King of Israel especially the portion of that story that begins in in 1 Samuel, Chapter 27. I believe there are parallels to be observed and lessons to be learned from this study that apply to this present time and our current circumstances.

Everything was changing; it was a new season, a new time, and a new era.

In Deuteronomy chapters 5 and 6, Moses called the people of Israel together for his farewell address. Moses was primarily speaking to a new generation, a generation that had been born and raised in the wilderness. Because he knew he would soon die, he was preparing them to move forward and strengthening them to enter and possess the Promised Land without him.

In these chapters of Deuteronomy, Moses was activating the people by instructing them to ‘prepare for change and get ready for transition!’

Moses faithfully explained God’s covenant to this new generation by telling them to, “Listen... to the Laws which I speak in your hearing today. Learn them and be careful to live by them!”

Moses was equipping the Hebrews so they could occupy their Promised Land and fulfill their destiny. Everything he said was based on the understanding that this generation must continue moving forward and be fully equipped to enter into destiny. They had to be readied, prepared, and empowered to go on without his leadership.

Today's Message features Kathie Burnett as she tells us how Scripture clearly reveals that Jesus ministered to, for and with children.

As believers, our goal should be to follow our Lord’s example. As His followers, we should be eager to serve as ambassadors of His Kingdom to all those in our sphere of influence – everyone we encounter - people of every culture, every language, every tribe and every nation! Our love and ministry should be available to all, including the little ones.

I decree and declare blessings over you and your loved ones this day. I believe for you to be fully equipped, enabled and empowered to bless all those in your sphere, including the little ones. I encourage you to take time to bless a child today!

Preparing for A New Year Ahead

I would like to ask you two questions?

Were you prepared for 2020? Will you be prepared for 2021?

Kathie and I have already begun to listen and to look for insight and Holy Spirit guidance for the new year ahead. Over the past several years, we have learned the significance of the times and seasons revealed in the Jewish Calendar. From a practical perspective, we operate our daily lives by the Gregorian calendar...the calendar used by most of the modern world. However, we have come to see that prophetic, Spiritual insight is contained in the calendar of the patriarchs, kings and prophets of Israel.

The body of Christ where we worship celebrates both Rosh Hashana...the Jewish New Year.... in the fall and the modern new year on January 1st. We find inspiration and insight in both.

I said all of that to say this.....

By preparing now for the Jewish New Year, we get a head start in preparing for the year that begins January 1st.

Let me give you and example....

This time last year, Kathie and I were in the process of finishing our book and preparing it for publication. We came to see that it was necessary to have the book completed for our Rosh Hashana... Head of The Year 5780 celebration in late September 21019.

God’s Family Plan: Establishing Generational Blessing was published in September of 2019. God’s Family Plan is about managing change and revealing God’s strategy for preparing multiple generations for the future.

Given the changes that occurred early in the new year 2020...little did we know how prophetic this book would be.

What if 5781 and 2021 bring us to events that change our lives as dramatically as 5780 and 2020?

Whether you accept the prophetic, Spiritual dimension of the Jewish calendar or not...I believe it is time to begin our preparations for the new year ahead.

But, how? How do we prepare? Do we prepare for good or evil? Do we prepare for plenty or lack in the new year to come?

The answer is...YES.

That answer may sound a bit confusing...but when I read Philippians, Chapter 4, verses 11-13 in the Passion Translation it may help you understand why I gave that answer.

This passage reads...

I know what it means to lack, and I know what it means to experience overwhelming abundance. For I’m trained in the secret of overcoming all things, whether in fullness or in hunger. And I find that the strength of Christ’s explosive power infuses me to conquer every difficulty.

So, I hope you will agree....Philippians FOUR seems like a place to begin in preparing for 5781 and 2021.

Yesterday was a long day of preparation for today’s podcast. When I went to sleep last night, I was still not fully ready to record it...But, this morning, I woke up to a God encounter. I want to share that first.

As I woke up this morning, God began to talk to me about time, eternity and the Great I AM... But, in all of that, God has a sense of humor. Things turned humorous when He reminded me of an old TV show called the Flip Wilson Show and one of Flip’s skits called the Church of What’s Happening Now.

For those of you too young to remember. Flip Wilson was a comedian and in the early 1970’s he had a TV Show on NBC called the Flip Wilson Show. On that show, he did a skit that featured “Reverend Leroy” and the “Church of What’s Happening Now.”

God did not show me anything regarding the dialogue of that skit...just the Host’s name and the title...”The Church of What’s Happening Now.”

God was telling me about Himself, the Church and His perspective of NOW.

You see....God is eternal...He functions in eternity...But, he created something we call time. I think it was Dr. Robert Heidler who said, “Time is God’s way of making sure that everything on earth doesn’t happen all at once.” I like that.

But, God reminded me that He revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:1 as “I AM.” He always IS. And, He always is NOW. He is not the “I Was” or “I Will Be.” He is NOW... He is past, present and future...God IS.

So, whatever your past has been or your future will be...God is there! He is The God of NOW! You can call it predestination...You can call it fatalistic...You can call it what ever you like...But, God calls it redemption.

The God who is NOW...can take your NOW repentance...Your NOW confession of faith and in His NOW...redeem your past...because He is there...your past is not finished...Because God is there...He can clean up that mess.

But, there is more, The future you thought you had forfeited by your past can be restored....because He is there! Read about it in Joel 2:25. In Christ, In the Eternal One...HE is NOW...HE is Then and He is forever our Savior, our Redeemer and Lord. Jesus IS the same yesterday, today and forever!

Today...in the midst of COVID, confusion and chaos...I AM wants to meet with you NOW! Today, God has a NOW moment for you!

So, what does that have to do with today’s message? Well...let’s find out.

I believe Holy Spirit is again speaking to believers through the Hebrew Calendar. Beginning at sundown July 17th ...it will be Tisha B’ Av, or the 9th of Av...Av being the fifth month on the Hebrew calendar.

Many of you may have never heard of Tisha B’ Av or the 9th of Av before today. But it is a significant date in both ancient and modern Israel. This is a date on the Hebrew calendar that offers Spiritual insight to you and me in this present day...There is revelation in Tisha B’ Av.

Both Christian and Jewish sources observe that a series of horrific events have occurred on the 9th of Av. These events are so severe and blatantly obvious that they should not be considered as coincidental.

For this podcast, I am relying on source material found in the book “A Time to Advance” by Chuck Pierce with Dr. Robert Heidler and Dr. Heidler’s wife Linda. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in understanding the times and seasons and the significance of the Hebrew calendar to modern believers.

On pages 282 and 283 of “A Time to Advance”, we find the following chronology of 9th of Av events:

On Av 9 587 BC – The Babylonians destroyed Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem.

On Av 9 70 AD – The Romans destroyed the second temple.

Av 9 135 AD – Represents the final defeat of the Jews by Rome.

On Av 9 1095 – The first Crusade was launched. Thousands of Jews were killed.

On Av 9 1290 – The Jews were expelled from England.

On Av 9 1492 – The Jews were expelled from Spain.

On Av 9 1942 – The Jews were deported from the Warsaw ghetto to the death camps.

On Av 9 2005 – The expulsion of the Jews from Gaza began.

I will not delve into the details of these specific events on this podcast. But, you may want to at least Google these dates.

However, there is one more 9th of Av event that I believe Holy Spirit would have us focus on today. Sources tell us this event occurred over 3,000 years ago and it is described in Numbers, Chapters 13 & 14. These chapters tell the story of the 12 spies that Moses sent from Kadesh Barnea to spy out Canaan, their Promised Land. Both Jewish and Christian sources agree that these spies offered the report of their findings on the 9th of Av.

If you are familiar with this story, you will remember that it was upon the fear filled report of 10 of those spies that Israel as a nation rebelled against God, their inheritance and their destiny. It was their 9th of Av rebellion that sent Israel on a 40-year journey of wandering in the wilderness.

First of all, the people of Israel were a people with a promise from God. They were promised the land of Canaan, a land that flows with milk and honey...a prosperous place to live.

However, in their exploration of the promised land, they discovered walled cities and giants. When they saw the giants, ten of the twelve spies could only think about how small they were compared to these giants...as grasshoppers in their own eyes.

As they focused on the giants, they forgot about the God of the Passover. They forgot about the God who parted the Red Sea. They forgot the God who provided manna and quail for their food. The forgot the God who fought with them against the Amalekites in Exodus Chapter 17. They did not remember the God who appeared on Mt. Sinai. The God who led them as a cloud and as a pillar of fire.

Again and again, Israel complained because of the obstacles they faced in pursuit of their inheritance and destiny.

I don’t know of a promised land without a few giants in it. You see, we have an adversary...

1 Peter 5:8 in the New King James Version says it this way:

Be [a]sober, be [b]vigilant; [c]because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Don’t get paranoid or a

Today’s episode is entitled “The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth.” With today’s podcast, we begin a series of podcasts that will explore the answer to the question, “What on Earth is Going On?”

For many, the beginning of this decade, the decade of the twenty-twenties, may be characterized by three words: COVID, chaos and confusion. I am not sure that there is anyone on the planet who has not experienced the impact of these three in some form or another. If I began a list of news headlines from this period, it would be extensive. It would include everything from COVID lock downs and lockouts, to masks and vaccination mandates, to gender confusion and LGBTQ rights, parental rights in education, abortion, border and immigration issues, inflation, major supply chain disruptions, energy and environmental issues, January 6th, Hunter Biden, election integrity, political contentiousness, wars or rumors of wars around the globe, and you may be thinking of even more to add to the list.

So, “What on earth is going on?” Even if you aren’t intentionally listening these days, you are likely to hear the sound of diverse and competing voices attempting to persuade you that they have the correct answer that question. The voices of a variety of political, social, environmental, and economic causes and perspectives are clamoring to convince the minds of the masses. Mainstream media, social media, plus a variety of digital news sources are competing for our attention and access to our devices 24/7, around the clock and from around the world.

However, as a Spirit-filled follower of Jesus, I do not trust the secular media in any format to tell the “truth, whole truth, and nothing but the truth.” I question the secular media’s ability to deliver information that is free from “spin” and unaffected by the bias and agenda of their owners and sponsors. And, most certainly, the secular media do not hold themselves accountable to either God or His Word.

This is a season when we, as followers of Jesus, need to question the objectivity and perspective of every secular voice, even those we have trusted in a past season.

On December 8, 2018, I received a vision of a train emerging from darkness with bright lights illuminating the rails before it. As I have meditated on the meaning of this vision, I have come to understand this vision as insight into an Emerging Greater Glory Generation, a revelation of a new, powerful generational alignment that God is forming among those called according to His purpose. This vision contains prophetic insight for the ministry assignment of every generation of believer, young and old, regardless of age.
This vision is a representation of the church advancing powerfully out of the darkness of religion and secularism, guided by a piercing light. One generation has prepared the right of way and laid the track to run on. The next generation takes up the light and moves it forward in ever-increasing glory, as in the days of Elijah and Elisha. As they move in the light of His glory, many generations are powerfully connected and aligned to assume the weight of a greater glory and the harvest it produces.

According to Genesis 1:28 God’s intent for mankind from the beginning has been increase. 2 Corinthians 3:18 in the New King James Version tells us as believers, But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

The Amplified Version says it this way, And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.

God’s intent is to advance us into a greater measure of His likeness and glory.

In this era, when we think of the next emerging generation, many of us may tend to think of the Millennial Generation, However, what I see emerging are the young ones, the Post-Millennial generations, Gen Z and Generation Alpha, even the ones yet unborn. In the manner that God encouraged Abram (Genesis 15:5), God is encouraging us to look into the heavens and believe for the generations and nations that will be born by faith. Your children, or the children you minister to, as well as their present and/or future offspring are soil for the seeds of the Word to produce a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession (1 Peter 2:9), a Greater Glory Generation.

My faith is reaching out for the children, the little ones and even the unborn as an Esther Generation. They are ones who “have come into the kingdom for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14). My reference to an Esther Generation is not in a gender sense, but in the sense of kingdom purpose, anointing and favor for their appointed season as a generation of deliverance and transformation.

Scripture plainly teaches that the foundational responsibility to teach the children, for spiritual stewardship and development of the next generation, lies with their parents (Deuteronomy 6:7; 11:19-21). One of Abraham’s covenant responsibilities was to teach his children (Genesis 18:19). For a greater glory generation to emerge, it will require preparing parents to disciple the children. Training parents and supporting them is a pressing necessity as they assume accountability as the primary frontline minsters to their children.

Our congregations are filled with people who were raised in dysfunctional homes. Not all Christians who are parents have the knowledge, skill or support to effectively minister to their children. Many born-again, Spirit-filled believers simply do not know how to be Christian parents.

Just as Esther’s kinsman, Mordecai (Esther 2:5-7), assumed parental stewardship of the orphan Esther, this next generation will need
