We are exposed to over 85,000 chemicals in our environment. These chemicals negatively impact hormones and ultimately fertility.
Specifically, exposure can negatively impact sex hormone production in men and women, contribute to irregular menstrual cycles, reduced testicular function and more.
Exposure can include cigarette smoke, air pollution, plastics, tap water, ingesting fish and/or shellfish with mercury, rice which may contain arsenic just to name a few!
All of us have some degree of heavy metal exposure, but some people are more sensitive to these heavy metals than others.
In our Couples Coaching program one of functional tests we have access to is the Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis test. A Hair Mineral Analysis assesses your mineral levels and toxic heavy metal levels that are being eliminated into the hair. Everything You Need to Know about Functional Approach to POF/POI

Dr. Anna Cabeca joins us today as we’re digging into how to heal naturally if you have premature ovarian insufficiency.
When I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure/insufficiency (POF/POI) at 28 I was told my only options were donor eggs.
I had no idea that underlying stressors both physical and mental/emotional were contributing to my infertility.
Fortunately, I was able to have both my children with donor eggs – but years later my health really began to suffer.
What I now know for sure is that crucial healing opportunities were missed for me. I see this all the time when we work with clients in our Fab Fertile Coaching program.
It is not about focusing on the POF/POI diagnosis.
Conventional medicine offers very few solutions for POF/POI. It’s either IVF (we’re given a very low chance of success) or donor eggs.
The functional approach addresses the healing opportunities (they are different for everyone and very individualized) and restores balance to the body. Because if your body is under attack it wants to survive not to procreate.
I’m excited to welcome Dr. Anna Cabeca, Emory University-trained and triple board-certified in gynecology and obstetrics, integrative medicine, and anti-aging and regenerative medicine. Dr. Cabeca was diagnosed with POI and was able to reverse the condition and get pregnant naturally with her daughter.

Rob Abbott, M.D. is the medical director for Resilient Roots: Functional and Evolutionary Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. He completed his family medicine internship with VCU-Shenandoah Valley and is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He has completed training with the Institute for Functional Medicine, is a Kresser Institute ADAPT Level 1 clinician and an AIP Certified Coach.
He is currently the medical advisor at Autoimmune Wellness conducting collaborative research with founders Angie Alt and Mickey Trescott.
