75. BONUS EPISODE - Employee Recognition Strategies for Improving Employee Engagement
Get Organized at Work | Career, Leadership, Project Management, Productivity, Time Management
+Get the free Recognition Worksheet in my Free Resource Library
Why is employee recognition important? There are many benefits to employee recognition when it's done intentionally.
+ I ask each of my employees "How do you like to be recognized?"
There are many ways to ask this question, but I feel it's the most straight forward way.
+ To honor the preferences of my employees, I give them examples of various recognition types. The free Recognition Worksheet I provided at the top of the description has so really great ideas. Of course, this isn't an exhaustive list.
I find that when I begin to look for behaviors that I can recognize, I find more gratitude in my work and working with those team members.
Gratitude - I find that when I begin to look for behaviors that I can recognize, I find more gratitude in my work and working with those team members.
When leaders spend time recognizing our employees at work, they feel appreciated and see that their work matters. They feel engaged and are less likely to turnover.
Here's a great white paper prepared by the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkley that talks all about gratitude and it’s benefits: https://ggsc.berkeley.edu/images/uploads/GGSC-JTF_White_Paper-Gratitude-FINAL.pdf
Tailor your recognition and be specific -
Once you know how your employee appreciates being recognized, be sure to tailor your recognition using their preferences.
Recognize your employee as close to the achievement or behavior you observed as possible. Knowing that their leader notices, acknowledges, and appreciates their recent work feels good and reinforces the employee to perform that positive behavior again.
Make Time for Recognition -
Schedule time on your calendar each day or once a week, whatever cadence works for you, for employee recognition.

73. BONUS EPISODE - Coaching Dialogue Questions I Learned from Michael Bungay Stanier in "The Coaching Habit" + My Tips!
Get Organized at Work | Career, Leadership, Project Management, Productivity, Time Management
Get the free Coaching Dialogue Questions and Tips Workaid Here
As a leader, our direct reports, our peers, and even our bosses come to us advice or help with problem solving. In this video, I provide tips for hosting a coaching conversation or coaching dialogue that allows you to help others grow. In this video, I give you questions to ask that help others reflect on the issue at hand and determine what they can do to work through their own ideas to find solutions.
Create space for learning: Keep your conversation a judgement free zone. Refrain from assuming you know the "why" behind their reasoning or that you have the answer. Say less, Listen more.
Give less advice: Avoid offering advice in the form of a "why" question. Instead of "Why did you make that decision?" ask one of the "What..." questions.
Be okay with silence: People need time to think when you ask "What..." questions. Let the person think or even come back later with their reflection instead of offering the answer or posing a leading question or thought based on your perspective.
Ask "What Questions."
WHAT...
is on your mind?
were you hoping for?
were you trying to achieve?
else can you do?
is the real issue?
would it look like?
Reflect Back:
"I heard..." or "Here's what I heard you say..."

Avoidance vs. Approach Goals & My 2024 Word of the Year | Leadership Unveiled Podcast, Kayla Fahey-Ahrndt
Get Organized at Work | Career, Leadership, Project Management, Productivity, Time Management
My 2024 Word of the Year is "Approach." As I started analyzing how my leadership business, KFA Consulting, did in 2023, I started to learn the difference between Avoidance vs. Approach goals. I listened to the Mel Robbins Podcast with guest, Dr. Luana Marques, who explains how the solution to avoidance is to approach which is science based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). A few days into 2024, I heard Jay Shetty's, Daily Jay Wisdom on the Calm App. His lesson was called, "Run To, Not From." In his lesson he says, "Researchers describe two types of goals: approach goals and avoidance goals. Both can help you achieve your objectives, but when you're running toward something, you get more enjoyment and learning from your success." This has inspired me to really lean in, step up to the plate, be at the table, and "approach" my goals this year with a renewed sense of grace and excitement. I'm here to be present and enjoy the process of growing and nurturing a community around helping professionals, who are doing it all, get and stay organized plus feel confident and empowered in their daily activities. Let's go! I hope you enjoy this episode!
