How much do genetics affect a dog’s behavior? Greatly! In the nature vs nurture debate, your dog’s history and genetics both play a big role in shaping his behavior. But you in the dog guardian role is just as important. It’s not nature vs nurture. It’s both, working together. In this episode of the Dog Liaison Podcast, I comment on this debate and share some background on the ethology and domestication of dogs, canine epigenetics, and so much more. I can get pretty passionate about this topic, but I wanted the route of the conversation to be educational, so I hope you enjoy it.

It's common for dog owners to WANT to train their dog, maybe they even know what they should be doing to train their dog, they just can't seem to find the energy or motivation to actually train.

Actually there are 3 very good reasons why you can't "just go out and train" your dog. In this episode, Jenna unpacks why your brain and body aren't letting you train, why you're finding it so difficult, and what you need to do to get motivated to train your dog.

We delve into the complexities of treating dog aggression with our guest guardian, Kate, and her dog, Walter. Together, they've navigated through various trainers and training programs, witnessing progress but lacking a sustainable outcome.

"In the world of dog training, progress is not just about managing behaviors; it's about creating a sustainable, positive transformation that lasts. It's the difference between short-term fixes and the long game of understanding and connection."

Focused on the big picture, Kate seeks long-term solutions beyond mere management. As Kate shares her journey, from initial adoption to encountering setbacks after a vacation, the challenges of addressing Walter's newfound aggression become apparent.

Traumatized by previous training experiences, Kate is now at a point of managing Walter's behavior but aims for more. The heart of the matter lies in building Walter's confidence and positive interactions, especially with new people.

Join us as we explore Kate's energetic pulse, her expectations, and the direction she envisions for Walter's training in the next four months. It's a journey of understanding, guidance, and the pursuit of creating a harmonious bond between Kate, Walter, and the world around them.
