If you're thinking of living outside of your passport country OR like to learn more about different cultures around the world, welcome. These are conversations that I had with other long term expats about what grounded them in their other places in the world.

How can a blind person learn and engage with language? Kavein, who has been blind since birth, is here to help us understand more about language learning and usage while being blind. We als touch on accessibility issues with technology, specifically screen readers. Kavein grew up using 3 languages in Malaysia: Tamil, Bahasa Malay and English. He has a fascination with the evolution and history of language. We also dive into a really fun tangent about emojis that I think you'll enjoy. The second part of this episode is about Kavein's podcasting obsession and will be on Geopats Podcasting next week.

Norm's podcast, Podlovers Asia, is in English and thus gives us a view of the Asian podcasting scene and all of the many cultures that it includes, with zero linguistic effort. In this episode we start with the Asian podcasting scene and then move into his local scene in Malaysia and wrap up with his own podcasting experience and, of course, his tips for new Podcasters wanting to enter the Asian Podcasting scene.

In this episode we chat with Expat Mo from the More Sibyl Podcast. She describes this show as “a podcast about culture and cultural nomads designed for Blacks and Asians and those who love them.” Mo is a Nigerian-born, US-educated, Korean-speaking, Struggling Intellectual.
I enjoyed chatting with Mo so much about her Facebook posts from her first year in the U.S. Her reflections on her own posts and the discussion that ensued really got me thinking about what we take for granted when we grow up in a culture AND what we expect others to accept readily when they enter the same culture as an adult. Mo’s honesty, hilarious sense of humor and compassion for others is very inspiring.

Conversations are precious and intimate but when we start recording them we often are too careful not to change anything. Removing sections of an episode can make it more focused and in turn, make your brand look stronger and more trustworthy. We hate to be the ones to break it to you but spending time taking out parts of your episodes will help you branded podcast.

If you’re recording with audio and video but only using the audio for your solopreneur podcast, there are connective moments that you might be missing out on. Facial expressions, hand gestures and things happening in the room are all visual moments that, when shared, can help you listeners relate more to the speakers in the episode. Here are some of our recommendations on how to start sharing these visual moments...audibly.

When I first chatted with Antonella Moretti in Spring 2019, we both lived in China and had creative projects as long as could we. But 2020 being what it is and Antonella being as thoughtful and eloquent as she is, the intensity of this year has turned into a creative contemplation period. She shares this and other updates on her life in this candid reflection episode. From the bottom of my heart Antonella, thank you for taking the time to record these honest and touching thoughts.
