In 1968, conservative editor and TV host William F. Buckley, Jr. and liberal provocateur and playwright Gore Vidal, engaged in a series of debates during the two presidential conventions. The tumult of the times was matched by the conflict between these two intellectuals. Featured in the 2015 documentary, "Best of Enemies," (Magnolia Pictures) these debates heralded the age of television punditry and news as entertainment. We examine the most famous of these debates and discuss debate and argument philosophy. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/marc-snediker/support

This is the first in an arc discussing the "accidental 80s". We want to dig into the new year with a bit of exploration of some of the defining genX moments or trends and discuss how they happened only by accident.

In this episode Marc shares his commercial real estate expertise to expose the tax accident that led to the mid-century Mall boom in America that continued to an apex during the 1980s. We also take a trip down memory lane and describe our personal mall experiences: the clothes, the hair, the video arcade, and (for Kristina) the boys! Finally ending up with a converstion about the contributing factors that are leading to the death of malls across the US.

There seems to be no one with less meaning in their lives than these guys. In this episode Marc and Kristina discuss the very unfortunate world of the many men (and few women) who consider themselves Involuntarily celibate. In this episode we talk about how we know what we know. This is not a super structured episode, very conversational and slightly esoteric. But sometimes we just like to chat about stuff like this and we want to bring you along with us.

Episode 5 description:

This is the next installment in our war on science series and we're looking at the first episode of the Netflix documentary (un)Well "Essential Oils". This trend is a little too soothing for us to go too hard at the concept, but never fear! Marc and I have plenty to say about a couple of the key figures featured in this episode. Dr. Z, my dude, we are coming to drag you! Listen for digressions into gangster rap, a little bit of our personal experience with western medicine and as always, Marc tells jokes.

In this episode Marc and Kristina have a philosophical discussion about truth. We chat about the many kinds of truth that exist, how "my truth" has become a hill to die on for many people and how "my truth" can become a place where people hide from accountability for their behaviors.

GenXtemporaneous - Episode 32: Q2 Electric Boogaloo
play

04/14/21 • 54 min

From the article The Making of QAnon: A Crowdsourced Conspiracy: "Here is the core of the QAnon myth: with the aid of a small group of military intelligence officers called the Q team (one or more of whom is supposedly responsible for writing the drops), President Donald Trump is waging a shadow war against a cabal of Satan-worshipping, child-eating pedophiles who are conspiring to obstruct and overthrow him. The military will arrest them en masse in an event called “the Storm.” The cabal’s membership has grown in the telling (at first, it was “many in our government;” within a month, any “celebs” who had “supported HRC” might very well be in on it; a few months later, there were too many to fit into Guantanamo Bay; later still, three other “detention centers [were] being prepped”), but it would be fair to say that virtually anyone who’s angered or defied President Trump is considered part of the cabal, along with the usual suspects like financier and philanthropist George Soros."

In this episode (part 2 of 3), Marc and Kristina begin to dig into the origins of the Q conspiracy, the predecessors, the acolytes, and the places where Q found a means of disseminating its message. We will be relying on our own research as well as diving into two documentaries. Q: Into the Storm, a multiyear effort at uncovering Q's identity filmed by Cullen Hoback and currently available on HBO Max as well as QAnon the Search for Q by Marley Clements and Bayan Joonam for Spike TV and currently available on YouTube.
