Gentleman Jack Crack - Gentleman Jack Crack - "Do Ladies Do That?" Part II
play

10/30/19 • 125 min

Another intermission? We know, an excess of jaunt + a torrent of emotions, has resulted in yet another 2 part installment of #GentlemanJackCrack Is this becoming a thing now? Maybe...

Welp, hey ho, and welcome to Part II of our #GentlemanJackCrack recap on episode 6 entitled "Do Ladies Do That." As you might expect, rabid gay screaming continues, along with excessive laughter and more sobbing, as we dissect every frame of this extraordinary episode. Our Patron Saint of Thirst acts as both little spoon and big spoon in the SAME episode, and we’re still not over it.

We also mentioned another pair of IRL queer ladies, Lily Wust & Felice Schragenheim, played exquisitely in the film Aimee & Juguar, by actresses Juliane Köhler & Maria Schrader. Turns out this film is actually on Amazon Prime Video, should you be interested in checking it out. We discovered this after we finished recording, but wanted to make sure everyone was aware that it is available for viewing online.

Gentleman Jack Crack - Gentleman Jack Crack - "Do Ladies Do That?" Part I
play

10/29/19 • 125 min

In this installment of #GentlemanJackCrack we heap our eternal gratitude in drunken jaunty spades, onto show creator Sally Wainwright and stars Suranne Jones & Sophie Rundle, as we recap the most emotional episode of Gentleman Jack to date. It’s fair to say that like the Ann(e)s, we are in the “dolefuls”. Whilst we edited it out most of the audible sobbing, some sniffles remain as Terrance was completely unprepared for the intensity of their separation. We talk for hours about the Ann(e)s, their faith, their love, and their grubbles with of course lots of gay screaming, on this really sad- but still jaunty, episode of Gentlemen Jack Crack.

Mentioned in this episode, a performance of “Ne Me Quitte Pas” by Lidisi at the Royal Albert Hall to put you in the mood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0-SN7oL6-E

Hey ho! So we’ve actually managed to record an episode that exceeds five hours. Good lord, welp, instead of cutting out any of our drunk and jaunty rambles, we split this #HistoricalNightcap offering into two parts. In this first half, we revisit episode 5 of Gentleman Jack “Let’s Have Another Look at Your Past Perfect” once more, but this time with the invaluable insight of show creator Sally Wainwright. Immediately afterward, in response to a few listener requests, we do a deep dive into Angela Steidele’s book ‘Gentleman Jack: A biography of Anne Lister, Regency Landowner, Seducer and Secret Diarist’, where we discuss some of her controversial assertions and surprising revelations.

Jaunty and tipsy, we dive into the latest #HistoricalNightcap where we awkwardly announce our Patreon and celebrate Anne finally getting “near queer”, but more importantly, the revelation that Ann Walker’s divine thirstiness had Anne so shook, she thought the gal “man keen”. In this adjunct installment of #GentlemanJackCrack, during the first half we add in a new segment: ‘Script Breakdowns with Sally’ where we go over important notes & deleted scenes found in the posted episode scripts.

In the second half it’s all diary entries, with talk of Anne’s ridiculous contradictions, her constant incurring of crosses, and of course grubbling. Join us with a beverage of your choosing, as we take a deeper look into the extraordinary life of Anne Lister and her courtship of the lovely Ann Walker.

During this episode of #GentlemanJackCrack we take what can only be described as an Iliad length journey, through the beauty that is episode two of of the HBO/BBC series Gentleman Jack entitled “I Just Went There to Study Anatomy”. We discuss the ever growing thirst of Lady Ann of House Parched, Anne “Hide Your Wives” Lister snatching petticoats with sexy math words like “thruppence” and “ha’penny per corve”, the toxicity of Anniana (Anne & Mariana; do we like this ship name?), and so much more. Too much? We hope not!

Hey ho! It's been 84 years, but we're finally back with the second half of this ridiculous 8 part saga! In this fifth chapter of the #HistoricalNightcap, we dive into year 1822 where Anne not only spent a great deal of time with and thinking about Mariana, but also with our favorite Georgian era drinker, Isabella Norcliffe. Love is complicated, and nothing about that changes in the year 1822. We also cover Anne visiting the Ladies of Llangollen and what it was like for her to experience "gay representation" for the first time. The lovely Miss Pickford also makes a cameo and Anne allows mans work to stir her desire for bad woman. If you're not drinking already, you may want to start as we continue on our journey of the bombastic grubble melodrama that is Anne Lister and Mariana Lawton.

To help keep ourselves organized, we've included a detailed chapter list below with time stamps and dates for each entry referenced, and as always, we love to hear from you. Feel free to reach out and follow us on all the things for daily talk of grubbling @gentlemancrack @gentlemanjackcrack
