Generation BTS: All The Albums

Generation BTS: All The Albums

Generation BTS

Three generations of ARMY come together to review All the Albums BTS. This includes Natasha, 20, an elder army having been a stan for 7 years. Kristine, 30, who has been army for coming up to 2 year and Leanne, 35, our baby army of just 18 months.

They come together to review All the Albums BTS. They are 100% not experts in music, K-Pop or BTS, so they’re just sharing their opinions and love for the seven wonders and their music. The reviews aren’t chronological; they are decided by a randomised wheel. So follow us as we move from era to era, Album to Album, performance to performance.

For each Album, we’ll discuss the tracks, lyrics, performances and background. Then share our individual favourite song, lyric, vocal, rap, dance break, live performance & look. We’ll also try and face the agonising task of what song we’d skip (if forced to do so!) and give the Album a grade.

So join us as we step into the Magic shop every 2 weeks. Borahae!

Annyeong Army! We are back to talk about the absolute masterpiece that is D-Day AND our experience on the incredible D-Day tour. Now that most people have presumably already seen it (if you are planning on catching the encore performances in Seoul in August and don't want to be spoilered, please skip the first 30 minutes of this episode) we thought it would be safe to let you know our thoughts, so in this episode we talk through everything including the organisation, event setup, stage design, VCRs, set list and of course we have endless praise and appreciation for our little kitty genius. He rapped, he sang, he played the piano, he played the guitar, he spoke several languages, he mesmerised, moved and entertained an entire audience on his own, and he performed his little heart out, who else can do it like him?? Thank you Yoongi for a truly amazing show!

Thank you also to all the armies we met around the concerts, you were all lovely! Hopefully some of you might have joined us as listeners now??

In this one we do also give out our initial awards for the best bit of content around the album, our favourite Min Yoongi look, the best song, our initial skip and so on, so there are plenty of spicy takes to look out for in the latter half of the episode! Let us know if you agree with any of our picks (or if you want to send some words of discouragement to ***someone*** who continues their rap line hate (although only on an initial basis!). We will of course also be doing a lyrics review in due course, but we will leave that for when the album is spun in on the normal wheel schedule.

Finally, we are also planning on doing a special to celebrate 10 years of BTS, so that should be out in the next month or so! For anyone patiently waiting for our review of Dark & Wild, which we promised you in our last episode (and again in this one), we promise we will get to that next (unless of course we get JJK1/KTH1) ! Merry Christmas Army and we wish you all a very Happy New Year! We've finally finished Dark & Wild! A project six(ish) months in the making has finally come to an end, just in time for the last days of 2023. Praise the merciful Namjesus during this most wonderful time of the year!

In this episode we discuss the last four songs on the album, which includes some hot takes on the merits of starting a song with Shoobidoobababa, RM's baseless confidence as exemplified by his 'teenie weenie mini, you're a bikini and martini' rap, the trials and tribulations of being an idol in your second year (aka a sophomore/so4more), and whether any of this makes any sense. It is also time to hand out some awards for this very long album, and while we disagreed a lot, we did agree to take the opportunity to challenge ourselves to cut a few more songs than normal! Kristine is sentimental, Leanne is unhappy about it, and Natasha is a bit in her feels as well, so please listen to find out why :)

Please keep in mind also that we recorded this a while ago, so some of the enlistment references aren't quite up to date, but we've recorded some more recent thoughts and hope to get that out soon. Apologies also for some parts of the recording being a bit patchy, there was quite a lot of background noise where Natasha was especially, but we have recently switched recording software to hopefully minimise the amount of issues and the amount of time it takes to edit (please cross your fingers!) and thanks for bearing with us!

If you want to let us know your thoughts on the episode or you want to get in touch for any other reason, you can do so by emailing [email protected], or dm us on Insta @generationbts_, or TikTok @generationbts_, or tweet us on X @generationbts_. We've also joined YouTube @generationbts so you can follow us there too if you want!

Finally, for anyone who has read this far we have recorded a Golden reaction and End of Year Special, and they should hopefully be out shortly if the new software performs as expected, but we decided to prioritise getting this out first. Make sure you get all updates by subscribing and following our social media :)

Borahae and hope you're having an excellent festive season! Stream Closer than This! x

Hello Army! Happy Festa Month :) We hope everyone has been celebrating well for the 10th anniversary, and if anyone managed to go out to Seoul we are very jealous... We are back again with our first thoughts on the masterpiece that is D-Day. It's a bit later than normal because we were lucky enough to go out to New York to see the tour, and then we didn't want to spoiler it, so part two where we talk about the tour will be out later. In this one however we talk about all the content we got around the album release, as well as the D-Day documentary!

Trigger warning: self-harm, drug abuse, trauma, depression. Our Yoongi keeps us busy talking about a lot of big topics, including mental health, loneliness and trauma, so please note that there are parts of this episode that might be upsetting, thus it may not be suitable for younger listeners or for those for whom these topics might be triggering (topics include traumatic events, depression, self-harm, drug abuse). We have included some resources below for anyone who have been affected by the topics brought up in either this episode or in the content released around the album.

If you want to speak to someone about the content of this episode or if you want to get in touch for any other reason, you can do so by emailing [email protected], or dming us on Insta @generationbts_, Twitter @generationbts_ and TikTok @generationbts_. Army! The wait is over, Dark & Wild part two is finally ready for you to listen and enjoy. We do apologise for the delay, if you have been following our Instagram you will know that we hosted our very first live event the other week and that took up a lot of time that we would have otherwise spent editing. If you came to the event, thank you very much and we hope you had an excellent time! We will be looking to hopefully do more events in 2024, so please follow our socials for all the updates. :)

Anyway, in this second instalment of our review of Dark & Wild we discuss quite a big chunk of what is a very long album, full of some deep and reflected songs, some super cool anti-hater songs, some cute songs and some songs that definitely belong in the 'random' bracket of the BTS discography. Through these songs we hear from the rap line about what drew them to the hip hop way of life, about writing songs about not being able to write songs and about making bed waves by kicking your blanket after having said something stupid to the person you like. The girl who ignores them (aka the central relationship/theme of the album), comes up only once in these seven (!) songs, but that does mean that there's time for some choice words about phones, as they are noisy and distracting when you're having a meal and interrupt first kisses, and iPhones in particular make the haters think they're cooler than they are. If you absolutely must have a phone however, please make sure follow the wise words of Min Yoongi and stick to; 'no iPhone, only Samsung'.

If you want to let us know your thoughts on the episode, the quiz, or you want to get in touch for any other reason, you can do so by emailing [email protected], or dm us on Insta @generationbts_, or TikTok @generationbts_, or tweet us on X @generationbts_. We've also joined YouTube @generationbts so you can follow us there too if you want!

Finally, for anyone who has read this far we hope to get part three ready asap, but we may need to make time for a Golden reaction and Christmas special in between. Make sure you get all updates by subscribing and following our social media (Instagram mainly but we try to keep Twitter/X updated as well) :)

11/11/22 • 116 min

We miraculously managed to get tickets to the BTS Yet to Come in Busan concert, and we're here to tell you all about it! Please join us as we reminisce about our wonderful trip out to South Korea, including our merch-getting adventures, our nights out, our street-food stories and our interactions with locals and fellow Armies along the way. We'll also tell you about everything BTS-related we got up to in Seoul, including writing messages on the old BigHit building after the enlistment announcement, going to the the Proof Exhibit, Namjooning in Ttukseom park, visiting handprints, recreating photos and eating at various BTS-themed restaurants and cafés. Please indulge us as we look back on the best holiday ever! We hope listeners enjoy the episode without getting too jealous (that's a joke you'll get once you've listened :))! We also want express our sincere and eternal gratitude to the lovely people of BTS UK Army Unite for getting us the concert tickets and making our wildest dreams come true. If you are UK based we also highly recommend checking out their BTS Club Nights! You can find information and links to tickets for on their Instagram, @btsukarmyunite.

Generation BTS: All The Albums - Wings - The Solos

Wings - The Solos

Generation BTS: All The Albums

play

10/23/22 • 133 min

We finally have the absolute pleasure of talking about the Wings album, and we're starting with the seven solos from our seven wonders! Join us in exploring what was most of the boys' first foray into doing songs on their own, and the songs' connections to their personal stories, the BTS Universe and to a book from 1919. Kristine tries to explain symbolism of the short films, Leanne tries to get over how amazed she is by the solos, and true to form Natasha succeeds in hating the rap line. We'll also share our thoughts in the awards section, minus the overall album MVP and grade because we will do those next time when we finish the whole album, but plus what we have called the very prestigious Wings Short Film Oscars.

We also apologise for this episode being very late, some of you might have seen on Instagram but we were living it up in Korea! We spent two weeks doing everything BTS that Seoul has to offer and even managed to attend the concert in Busan, which was the experience of a lifetime! We genuinely cannot express how grateful we are to BTS UK Army Unite and the Korean Embassy in London for getting us the tickets. We might do a special episode to share more of our trip soon, and we'll post highlights on our Instagram below if you want to check those out :)

This episode was recorded a while ago, but while we were in Korea we obviously also learnt that BTS are planning to enlist to complete their military service over the next couple of years. Of course will be giving the boys our full support both while they're away and while doing their solo work, and we look forward to welcoming them back in 2025. #BTSWeWillWait

Generation BTS: All The Albums - O!RUL8,2?

Generation BTS: All The Albums

play

07/28/22 • 115 min

We’re going back to the School era! Join us as we talk through everything O!RUL8,2?, the second ever mini album by BTS. In this one we discuss academic pressure, love as coffee, dragon memes, Korean dialects, watermelon babies and what the boys would do if they ruled the world (thankfully they didn't at this point in time at least..). There’s obviously also still time for some calling out the haters, some ridiculous outfits and some very literal dance moves to keep us entertained.

What’s the most energetic dance? Who had the worst fur coat? Which member has a future career in props if the idol thing doesn't work out?

You’ll find out in this episode!

*Also, sorry this one is a bit late, it took a while to edit*

Generation BTS: All The Albums - You Never Walk Alone - Part Two (Spring Day, Not Today)
play

05/05/23 • 98 min

Hey Army! Sorry this is a little late but we were away in New York seeing Yoongi's tour, which was amazing, but we have been dealing with serious post-concert blues ever since :( But now we are back with part two of our You Never Walk Alone series, also known as the first part where we discuss the actual album, which is very exciting! In this one we obviously go very long on Spring Day, the lyrics, the MV and the theories, and we also make time to fawn over our fluffy boys in all of their knitwear and pastel hair colours. We then move on to Not Today and discuss its merits as a social justice anthem, motivational gym song, BTS Club night banger, bomber jacket exhibition theme tune and possible national anthem for the Republic of Borahae. We also have hot takes to share on the choreo for both of the songs, so make sure you listen and let us know whether you agree!

Thanks also to everyone who came to see us in New York, we met so many lovely Armies and it really made the trip extra special!

Generation BTS: All The Albums - You Never Walk Alone - Part One: The Original Soundtracks (bonus episode)
play

04/21/23 • 68 min

Surprise!!! Welcome back to Generation BTS! As you will know if you listened to our previous full album review, we are due to talk about the repackaged version of Wings, You Never Walk Alone, this time, so apologies if this first part might seem a bit random, Seeing as that album only has three previously unreleased songs however, we decided to add on a little bonus discussion on the Original Soundtracks the boys (read the vocal line except Jungkook) have released for various K-Dramas. Please join us as we share our takes on the songs, fumble our way through trying to relate the themes of the songs to the dramas they accompany despite not having watched all of them, and take some time to hail the undisputed king of OSTs Kim Taehyung, who let's be honest is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this particular set of songs. This episode is a bit of a chaotic one but we hope you enjoy!

Let us know your thoughts on this episode by emailing [email protected], or dm us on Insta @generationbts_, Twitter @generationbts_ and TikTok @generationbts_. We've also recently joined YouTube @generationbts so you can follow us there too if you want!

Also, please do get in touch if you are going to Yoongi's tour in New York and would like to say hi! We're going on the 26th and 29th of April and could not be more excited :)

We made it before the end of the summer guys! Welcome to the Festa special part three :) In this one, we reminisce over years gone by and reflect on what must have been quite a strange time for our seven boys, including a lot of uncertainty and longing to meet Army again and riding bicycles whilst being happy and sad, and feeling free but existential. We also revisit the songs that have gotten us through the last couple of years of reduced access to OT7 content, and we express our gratitude and appreciation for the general wonderful concept that is Festa, a yearly occasion where we get to celebrate being Army. Isn't that wonderful!

We also finally get give out some awards in this episode, for the best Festa song, Festa skip, Festa MVP etc., and we have both strong agreement and strong disagreement across the categories on this occasion... Listen to find out our takes and let us know if you agree!

You can find the links to the videos and content we talked about here.

Finally, for anyone patiently waiting for our review of Dark & Wild, which we promised you in our last couple of episodes, we have started recording it and it should be out next (we'll just need to figure out the scheduling around a Layover reaction episode)! Make sure you get all updates by subscribing and following our social media (Instagram mainly but we try to keep Twitter updated as well) :)
