If bad karaoke sounds like a good time to you, you’re gonna love this episode! We start off talking about classic summer songs, the kind you might sing along to on a road trip. Let’s hope if Kate and Rebecca are in the car with you, the music is turned WAY UP to drown out their voices. Bless their hearts.
One of the fun things about summer is getting to take a trip. Whether it’s a big one out of state or a smaller one close by, many of the same truths apply: something will be forgotten, something will go wrong and someone will ask: Are we there yet? This episode is all about tips and tricks to make your summer trips the best ever! Let’s go make some memories with our families, mamas.
Travel Tips:
- Teach kids how to pack themselves
- Use packing cubes for each kid
- Each kid packs their travel bag (snacks, water bottle, books, blankie)
- Have a new book, coloring book, movie for your kids to watch or play with that they’ll be excited about (check out books from the library to save money)
- Make sure you have wipes
- Give everyone a job
- Go over the trip with your kids
- Accept that something will go wrong
Airplane tips:
- Mentally think through the logistics of suitcases, carseats, strollers and what all you will need BEFORE you get to the airport
- Drink or sucker at take off for popping ears
Road trip tips:
- Pack snacks-one gallon bag for each kid filled with snacks (saves money at gas stations)
- Incentivize good behavior (money for prizes, pick where you eat, reward tickets)
- License plate game, road sign alphabet, I spy
My biggest tip is that travel is an opportunity to make God bigger for your kids. They get to see a new part of the world, new people and get the blessing of a zoom out-a new understanding of who their God is.
Take the opportunity to help your kids be in awe of God. When they see a mountain, the ocean, beautiful flowers, a people group that looks and speaks differently than you do.
Psalm 19
For the director of music. A psalm of David.1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6 It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth.
We can get so used to the beauty of our daily surroundings that we forget to marvel at them. We have a fresh opportunity to marvel at the goodness of our God, His creativity, his beauty in a new place. Help your children see him and worship him.
We love you. We’re taking a little summer break to be present with our families. Stay tuned on Gather Moms Instagram and Facebook as we continue to provide resources and encouragement for you throughout the summer.
Love you, moms!

149: I’m Struggling with Comparison
Gather Moms
05/13/24 • 38 min
Comparison – is it always bad? I actually do a lot of comparing like grocery deals, gas prices and clothing fits and trends. The basic idea of comparison is examining similarities or differences between two or more things. It becomes detrimental when we let social comparison – myself vs others – indicate degrees of superiority or inferiority.
“Comparison is the thief of joy.”
President Theodore RooseveltSocial comparison is a happiness quest. We get a hit of dopamine when we decide our house is the best, clothes are the best or new spray tan is the best. It is short-lived and shallow. Joy runs deep and exists in the face of trial and hardship. It lasts beyond the moment of happiness and holds us steady when life doesn’t go our way.
Comparison is a chase. Joy is a choice.
Comparison separates. Joy connects.
How can you overcome the comparison trap and choose joy?
- Limit social media.
- Pray before social gatherings.
- Manage your inner critic.
- Practice gratitude.

EP 121: The Waiting Season
Gather Moms
10/02/23 • 36 min
We’ve all had to wait. Whether waiting in traffic or waiting for a breakthrough, we know the uneasiness and stress that comes with waiting. For women, waiting for a baby may be the hardest waiting season of all. The pain of this waiting that we often call infertility is more common than we may realize. 1 in 6 women deal with infertility and know the pain of longing and waiting for a child. The Bible is not silent on this issue and instead highlights and cares for women who long for children. Women like Hannah, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Manoah and Ruth knew what it was to wait and Hannah is a beautiful example of bringing the longing and pain to God.
Psalm 27:14 NASB says “Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.”
Here are some truths to remember:
1. Waiting, in Scripture, is the active turning to the Lord.
2. Periods of waiting help us articulate our need for God.
3. Our story of waiting is part of our witness.
Visit the Gather Moms blog for more encouragement and resources. One of our core beliefs is just because you don’t have a biological child, or an adoptive child or are still in the waiting season, doesn’t mean you don’t have the heart of a mother. You are created in the image of God – and where does motherhood come from? From God – our Creator. You are welcome here.
All of us know someone who has struggled or is struggling with this. In fact, I would guess most of us experienced some of it ourselves. We need to lean into this group of mamas because they are our friends, daughters, sisters, and sisters-in-law. We wanted this episode to remind you that you are seen and loved by a heavenly Father but also by the Gather Moms community.
Galatians 6:2, “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” (NLT)

I (Rebecca) put down my phone for a week and am thrilled to share what I learned and experienced. As I am typing these show notes, my phone just notified me that my screen time was down 86% last week. Was it easy? No. Was it worth it? Yes!
Our phones constantly distract us as we subconsciously convince ourselves that we need them more than anything else. We literally can’t leave home without them. We also spend our precious time checking social media and appeasing our boredom with apps and games. Those we love most often get the least of our presence as we divert our attention to something that has become an idol.
My spiritual mentor challenged me to take the time I normally spend on my phone and instead spend it in prayer. Our minds and hearts are navigating hurt and disappointment on a daily basis and too often we settle for putting it off in search of an easy fix of social media scrolling. There was so much inside me that needed personal attention from Jesus and I am so thankful for the reminder that his love is so much better.
I’m praying you take the plunge too! Start your own journey in taking a break from your phone and follow these steps:
- Start by vomiting your feelings on paper – get everything inside your heart, even the dark places, out on paper and let the Holy Spirit help you process and then confess.
- Sit down with Jesus and write this at the top of your journal, “Father, what is on your heart today?” Now listen and then listen some more...don’t rush this time. Sit and listen.
- Read God’s word and meditate on it all day – anticipate the promise that God will expand your understanding as you ponder it all day.

Gather Moms
09/26/22 • 18 min
Here’s to all the moms that want a better morning! Kate and Rebecca share more insight on changing our perspective of the early morning hours. Did you know it starts the night before? Instead of dreading the alarm, we can decide to embrace the opportunity to start the day with discipline. Mornings for moms come with all kinds of surprises and pivots, but we can set aside time to prepare our mind and body. Discipline creates lifestyle.
Today we’re challenging all our Gather Moms to join us on a 7 day challenge to take back our mornings. Will you commit to do these 4 things before your family gets up?
- Sit in silence
- Move your body
- Journal your thoughts
- Pray
God sees you, MAMA. He has purpose for your days. Even if it feels like you’re in a season of waiting, you can be actively making the most of your time. All moms are working moms. Whether you work in the home or outside the home or some hybrid version of that, we all know what it’s like to feel like we’re juggling the things we need to do to help support our family and also care for our children and, if there’s time, chase our dreams. Jenny Worsham knows this struggle well and has seen God grow her so much in this area and has great wisdom to offer us.
Like Jenny said, we need each other, mamas. Here’s the link to learn more about Gather Groups.

EP 146: I’m Struggling with Burn Out
Gather Moms
04/22/24 • 36 min
We’ve all heard the analogy of how important it is to put your own oxygen mask on before you help someone else but, for moms, that feels so counterintuitive. When the people around us need us, we show up and give and serve and help which is a good and beautiful thing but can also lead to burn out and break down. Conversations around self-care have come a long way and women are doing a better job of prioritizing their health, which we APPLAUD. However, so many of the things we are looking to for self-care end fall short of giving us the real restoration we are longing for. So, while we need to take care of our bodies, we also need to make sure we are caring for our souls. Soul-care, more than self-care, promises to meet our deepest needs better than any mani/pedi. When we look to Jesus and quiet our souls before him, we find he restores us in abundance.
Join us HERE for GOOD DAY, GATHER!! When you join at the $10 level, you get a cute, iced-drink koozie. When you join at the $20 level, you get a koozie for you AND a friend!

On Patreon, we’ll post a podcast recording with a Monday Motivation and you will get the Good Day, Gather Calendar with a checklist to keep you on track.
