EP 163: MAMA SAID You’re the ___ Kid
09/30/24 • 37 min
Hey Moms! We are beyond excited to share this episode of the Gather Moms podcast with you!
We are diving into the labels and tags we often assign to our kids and discuss the profound impact these labels can have on them. It is so important to affirm our children! Let carefully nurture our children’s hearts and focus on their intrinsic value. We all know our words have a lasting effect so let’s use them for good!
Three main points to consider:
Flipping the Coin: Turn negative labels (like “wild” or “bossy”) into their positive counterparts (like “energetic” or “leader”) to highlight the strengths behind challenging behaviors.
Eliminating Loaded Language: Avoid terms like “always” and “never” that exaggerate and unjustly define a child’s actions, focusing instead on specific behaviors that need addressing.
Behavior over Person: Critique actions instead of character, encouraging growth and learning from mistakes without defining the child by those mistakes.
Making the most of today resource.

EP 162: MAMA SAID Leave Me Alone
This episode revolves around that all-too-familiar phrase, “leave me alone.” We have all been there!. We need boundaries and some alone but we need to be careful in how we communicate this.
Three ways we see this phrase pop up:
1) Leave me alone, I’m trying to go to the bathroom:
We talk about how important it is to teach our kids common courtesy and respecting boundaries.
2) Leave me alone, I need a few minutes:
We dive into those moments when we’re completely overwhelmed and just need to step back. Self-awareness, delegating tasks, and planning for high-stress situations are key points here.
3) Leave me alone, I’m in a bad place:
We go deeper into issues like depression and severe exhaustion. It’s crucial to recognize these feelings and seek help, be it through prayer, talking to friends, or professional help.
Let’s communicate our needs and find strength through Jesus and our community. Keep your heads up, mamas! We’re all in this together.

EP 164: MAMA SAID Stop Crying or I’ll Give You Something to Cry About
Our kids can have BIG emotions and so can we. Depending on how we were raised and our own issues, it can be such a struggle to handle our children’s big feelings. Kate and Rebecca share openly about the ways they’ve grown in this area and the big mistakes they’ve made along the way as they’ve navigated feelings.
Here’s what we want to remember:
Wait: Don’t have a big talk in the middle of an emotional storm
Prep: Make a plan when things are calm
Model: Model what you teach, apologize quickly
We don’t need to be afraid of emotions. We can turn to the God who created our emotions and ask him to guard our hearts and minds. When we give our emotions to him and remember he is with us, we calm down in our spirits and can lead ourselves and our children well.
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:4–7)
