Special thanks to guestbook writer Michele Mekel and her poem "Tainted." Michele wears many hats of her choosing: writer and editor; educator and bioethicist; poetess and creatrix; cat herder and chief can opener; witch and woman; and, above all, human. With more than 125 poems published, her work has appeared in various academic and creative publications, including being featured on Garrison Keillor’s The Writer’s Almanac and nominated for Best of the Net. Her poetry has also been translated into Cherokee. She is co-principal investigator for the Viral Imaginations: COVID-19 project (viralimaginations.psu.edu).

An extra special thanks to Michael Medler, this week’s guestbook contributor, podcast supporter, and the inspiration for this episode’s cameo. Michael writes because Nature wills him to it. He recently left a dystopian suburb of Seattle and retreated to the knee-hills of the Olympic Mountains, cut the cable, and bought whiskey. Now he finds inspiration from deep woods, less so from demons. Though they are there. His poem “Reflection” comes from his poetry collection Boundary Points, and both of his poetry volumes can be purchased here on Amazon.

Special thanks to local poet and woodcrafter, Chris Kleinfelter for letting me read his poem “Buzzing Well.” Chris has been writing college for the last 30 years since he returned to college at age 40, which brought out his love for writing. After winning a poetry award in Thoughts Beyond Insanity, the campus literary journal, he has been writing ever since. His work has been featured in Harrisburg Review, The Villager, Tidepools Magazine, Sixfold Poetry Summer 2020, and Corona Global Lockdown as well as the Olympic Peninsula Writers Association 2022 anthology. You can find more of his work on his poetry blog poetinplace.com, his other prose blogs Adventures in Antiquing or Seward Adventures, or his YouTube channel. When he is not squeezing words into poems, he spends his time woodworking. Thanks for working with me, Chris!
