Sam Stolberg was born with a heart condition. Growing up, his condition didn't impact him very much. Sam played high-level rugby league throughout high school. Then in 2017, at the age of 26, Sam received the news that he would have to have open-heart surgery within 90 days.
Listen in to hear how Sam dealt with this life-altering news, his surgery and recovery, his thoughts on mental health and resilience, and what he's learnt over the course of his unique journey. Sam is also one of the hosts of this podcast.

My Heart Condition Doesn't Define Me... George's Story

George is 21 years old from Tasmania. Born with a complex heart condition, George has had six open-heart surgeries.
In this episode, George talks about what it was like travelling to Melbourne for surgery as a young kid, how he navigated his teenage years despite some physical limitations, how he looks after his mental health and how attending HeartKids Teen Camps changed his life. George is passionate about mentoring and shares lots of advice for younger heart kids navigating their own journeys.
George is also currently planning his own football-related fundraising event in Tassie for the third year in a row, called Kick for HeartKids 3.

Mandela is a Yawuru woman from Broome in Western Australia. Mandela was 29 weeks pregnant with her first child when she received the news that her baby had a heart condition.
What followed was four surgeries in 16 months for her baby Myles and many months away from home and family.
Mandela shares advice for other families who may be receiving a new diagnosis of congenital heart disease in their child, or dealing with surgeries.
