From Embers To Excellence™

From Embers To Excellence™

David R. Hollenbach, III

The goal of any leader is to ensure the success of their people. It is who we believe ourselves to be, who we are at our core that we must strengthen in order to take on life’s obstacles. It is what fills our innermost sphere. It is what allows us to expand or dictates the contraction of our sphere of influence. It is what gives us strength when we fail and when we encounter the inevitable hardships of life. Your personal philosophy on life, your beliefs, are what shapes how you view yourself. Remember the Oracle at Delphi’s maxim, “Know Thyself.” Who are you and what do you stand for? What gives your life meaning? Every episode a proven leader is interviewed to uncover their personal experiences in leadership development, lessons learned, and failures that led to important growth. https://www.hollenbachleadership.com/ https://www.facebook.com/DavidHollenbachConsulting/ https://www.instagram.com/hollenbach_consulting/ https://twitter.com/HollenbachLEAD?s=03 http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqYRfs5COptP-V3VmREi0bA https://www.linkedin.com/in/dave-hollenbach-mpa-54713a7a/

Dr. Kolenda works with leaders who want to apply insights from history and military operations to transform their businesses. A West Point graduate, recognized combat leader, and retired Army colonel, he defied conventional wisdom in Afghanistan by motivating a large insurgent group to switch sides, the only example of such success in the 20-year history of the war. As a trusted adviser to three four-star generals and two undersecretaries of defense, he became the first American to have both fought the Taliban as a commander in combat and negotiated with them in peace talks. He holds a Ph.D. in war studies from King’s College, London, and is the author of Zero-Sum Victory: What We're Getting Wrong About War (University Press of Kentucky; October 26, 2021) and Leadership: The Warrior’s Art (Stackpole Books; Second Edition, September 20, 2021), a trusted anthology that’s been in print for over 20 years and helped tens of thousands of leaders succeed in combat and business. Lucas Caneda is global team leader at Uniqorn Incubator and a professional rugby player in Sarlat Rugby. Lucas grew up as a die-hard rugby player starting at the age of 5. Even though he suffered what many thought would be a career-ending knee injury, he moved to France and became a professional rugby player. After a few years in France, he joined the Sarlat Rugby Team, where Lucas met Dom Einhorn, the Founder and CEO of the UNIQORN incubator-accelerator. Lucas immediately integrated Rugby into the incubator's program where he now works as a team leader for both the incubator as well as for one of its startups, FORMATION.GG, an up-and-coming platform dedicated to eSports. A student of engineering, management and economics, self-taught in nutrition and fitness, Lucas has always had a very keen interest in business and entrepreneurship.

Lucas and I discussed his influences growing up in Argentina and how rugby helped him develop his leadership philosophy. He tells me about how adversity has helped him grow and become a better rugby player, entrepreneur, team leader, and man.
