Did you know that only 10% of all plastic that's ever been produced has been recycled?!* And that just 60% of communities in the U.S. have access to curbside recycling pick-up?** Our waste is a huge problem but, today's guest, Ryan Hickman, is determined to be part of the solution. At just 10 years old (yes, you read that right!), he's CEO of his own company, Ryan's Recycling. He joins us today with his dad, Damion, and helps to demystify the confusion that recycling can sometimes cause.

If YOU want to learn more about what is and isn't recyclable, head on over to this episode's show notes at https://forcesfornature.com/podcast/recycling

Ep10: Using Regenerative Agriculture to Revive the Land with Irene Montes

Send Crystal a text letting her know what you thought about the show!

Is there a way to feed millions and support economies without the severe environmental footprint left behind by conventional agricultural practices? There is! Regenerative agriculture is a growing movement and it includes practices such as agroforestry and silvopastoral systems- basically, food that's grown and animals raised in a more forest-like setting. These methods help to regenerate topsoil, increase biodiversity, sequester carbon, and protect water supplies while actually increasing yields! Sounds too good to be true? Irene Montes's father, Olimpo, made the switch to regenerative agriculture on his farm in Alcalá, Colombia, and was able to revive his dying land. In this episode, Irene shares her father's story and how Pinzacuá Ranch has become a leading example in the region of how to farm more humanely and in-tune with the natural ecosystem.

Want to know how YOU can support regenerative agriculture practices and bring back ecosystem services? Check out this week's show notes!

Ep12: Aligning Nonprofits' Events With Their Missions with Deva Holub

Send Crystal a text letting her know what you thought about the show!

Have you ever stopped to wonder why an organization who, let's say, works to protect animals may still serve (other) animals at their events? There's a disconnect there that today's guest, Deva Holub, is working to adjust. She helps to run Animal Place's Food for Thought program whose aim is to help nonprofits adopt mission-driven menu policies for fundraising and sponsored events. The benefits of doing so are plenty, including (for a 150 person event) saving up to 50 farmed animal lives, 55,000 gallons of water, and a much lighter carbon footprint. In fact, she even tells us about how, after aligning their events with their mission, one organization's donor gave them a six-figure gift!

For some ideas on how YOU help better the lives of farm animals, check out this episode's show notes at https://link.chtbl.com/ep12devaholub
