The dam has burst early on trade season! A mega-blockbuster deal involving all of: The Avs, Hawks, and Canes went down overnight, and Jeff is here with the update (about midway through this short episode)!
Your Pittsburgh Penguins are in Seattle this afternoon to take on the Kraken, for a 1:00pm PT / 4:00pm ET puck drop. Let’s see if the boys in black and gold can flip the script on their rough January and make a push for the playoffs (woof)...
Thanks for checking out this impromptu solo dispatch on a Saturday morning, and enjoy the game!

Sidney Patrick Crosby’s backhand shot is the stuff of legends - except when it’s happening right in front of 11k Utah Hockey Club fans (minus five thousand give or take Penguins fans). Yep, Sid called game last night in a sudden death OT victory over the NHL’s newest franchise. If you haven’t beheld the goal yet, cue it up on the inter webs, because it’s a thing of absolute beauty.
Jordan and Jeff riff on:
- The Too-Few Nations Face-off Tourney
- Precisely when it will TRULY be time for Dubas to throw in the towel on this season
- Alex Ovechkin and the Quest for 895
- Other fun semi-hockey-related stuff

In the midst of back to back weekend victories, the Pittsburgh Penguins made a big trade with the Vancouver Canucks. Gone are the Pittsburgh days of Sweden’s Marcus Pettersson and New Jersey’s Drew O’Connor, for henceforth they will both suit up in blue sweaters emblazoned with orcas.
Jeff and Jordan try to let it really sink in: The Penguins are in full-on rebuild mode, welcoming in as they have defenseman Vinny Desharnais and back-again forward Danton Heinen.

We’re not going to pull punches here, folks: The Pittsburgh Penguins are dismally bad at winning right now. They just can’t get over the hump most nights, particularly when they’re playing bottom-dwellers like the Ducks or Sharks. As the Pens head into the Shark Tank this evening for a 10:30pm puck drop against Macklin Celebrini and Co., it is this podcast’s opinion that (a Penguins fan) ought not get one’s hopes up.
The schedule over the next month is chalk-full of divisional games, versus teams the Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t necessarily fared too well agains. Frankly, in the interest of contending next season, this organization might do well to take the next 10-15 games as an ‘opportunity’ to climb in the draft lottery standings.
We close this episode out with a full discussion of Robert Eggers’s “Nosferatu,” a captivating new film that Jeff and Jordan took in, together, just last week. Warning, it’s definitely not a flic for the ultra-faint-of-heart.

Listeners, thanks for being with us in the 2022-2023 Pittsburgh Penguins regular season. Things didn’t turn out the way we’d all hoped, but it’s been a wild ride - one we’re glad we took. If it weren’t for YOU - yes, we mean YOU - then we’d just be talking out into the void. And that, to say nothing of the Penguins’ season coming to an untimely close, is a pretttttty dark thought to think. OK, folks: Let’s tune in and support these Pens, one last time, and root them on to defeat the presumed champs of the Conor Bedard Lottery (CBJ-CBL). Sidney Crosby. Evgeni Malkin. Kris Letang. Jake Guentzel. Bryan Rust. Jason Zucker. Rickard Rakell. These players put on a truly entertaining show this year, did they not? Of course, there are other fish who require frying, and those stories will play themselves out as the horn - and hopefully not the blackpowder cannon at Nationwide Arena - sounds for the final time tonight.
Enjoy this game, it’s the last Penguins game until mid-October of 2023. We’ll be back with off-season episodes, starting next week, on an official schedule which we’ll soon announce. More than anything, THANK YOU for joining us each game-day, as you have all season. Just like you, we can’t wait for a clean slate, and more regular season Penguins Hockey.

The Pittsburgh Penguins’ path to the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs is pretty simple: Win tonight. Beat the lowly Chicago Blackhawks and go from there. Sure, there’s one more regular season game in addition to tonight’s tilt versus the ‘Hawks, but can it possibly do the Pens’ players any good, to be thinking about a different game - the one against Columbus on Thursday - as they prepare for tonight’s matchup? The mission today: Tonight. Win tonight. If the Penguins can do that, they’ll go to sleep in a WC spot, ready to pounce on the Jackets and secure a 17th consecutive playoff berth. There are 60 minutes of Penguins Hockey separating the Pens from said ticket-to-the-dance. Here’s hoping they play those 60 minutes in a manner they’d be proud of.

Tristan Jarry skated with the Penguins this morning at PPG Paints Arena. All that means is, Jars is a possible backup for Casey DeSmith tonight, as the Pens take on the Caps for the final time this regular season. Other things we know for certain about Tristan Jarry: 1.) He is chronically injured 2.) He’s not to be relied upon down the stretch 3.) He’ll occasionally play his a%% off when healthy. Otherwise, tonight’s about one thing: Sid, Geno, and Letang v. Ovi & The Caps. Listeners, CHERISH tonight’s spectacle. The three aforementioned Pittsburgh players are giving you their all this season, and win-or-lose tonight, the matchup is bound to be one for the books.
