First Baptist Church Of Chicago - Why Do You Just Go Along To Get Along.

Why Do You Just Go Along To Get Along.

03/06/07 • 44 min

First Baptist Church Of Chicago

This week Reverend Brown teaches from the text of John 2:7-11,15-17,. This weeks theme comes from the idea of, how often do we just go along with the world to keep the peace, rather then challenging the injustices and corruption that surround us. Very often as christians we adopt the don't ask don't tell policy. When we see things as long as they don't directly effect us we cast a blind eye even though these issues are against the basic teachings of Christ. While we may in the short term keep the piece in our world over time these issues will cause us pain in our society or personal lives. Thus, Rev Brown this week asks us to evaluate ourselves and ask are we just going along with the status quo to get along? If we are we should look at what we are allowing to pass by and challenge it if it isn't in the way of Jesus Christ.

Bread for the Journey.

With this Sunday being the last Sunday in February, which is also Black History Month we had a special service presented by our Generation 2000 members. Besides their special presentation and musical selections that included a solo by Ms. Tulani Brackett, our services were presided over by Reverend Dr. David Daniels.

Reverend Daniels' wanted to talk to us about what we as a organization is providing to feed the hunger of our members in a way to encourage growth in the church. Previous generations have had slavery and civil rights as causes to focus on to maintain direction in our institutions and churches. In the 21st century what are we giving to our members particularly our young member to cause them to come to the church for meaning. Dr. Daniels endeavors to answer that question with his sermon this week.
