Film vs Film Podcast

Film vs Film Podcast

This is a film podcast where we pick our favourite film topic, like a director, actor or genre, any subject related to film. Martin the host and Boaz or sometimes a guest, each pick a film to discuss from that topic. We discuss them in three different aspects of each film, Directing, screenplay and acting. Then we rank each aspect out of ten. Plus we pick our favourite shot or scenes, lines and performances. At the end we tally the points and see who wins.

This episode is dedicated to talking all things spoilers about yet another attempt from David Gordon Green to create a legacy sequel for another beloved horror franchise. This time he's taking on The Exorcist with The Exorcist: Believer. I can't talk about such a legendary franchise without some legendary guests. I'm jointed by Tommy from the Haven't scene it podcast. On this one we talk about some positives. We talk why this film isn’t particularly scary. We talk about why we didn't particularly care about a lot of the characters especially in that last scene. We talk about some missed opportunities. Plus how to not bring back a legacy character. IMDB page

This episode as Matthew Vaughn is back hitting the big screen with a massive cast, filled with stars in his latest spy movie Argylle, so we are naturally gonna be talking Matthew Vaughn films. Of course I can't talk alone about a great British maker. I'm joined by another regular podcast, a couple that can talk movies for America, John and Georgia from the Comfort films Podcast.
Warning we Will be talking SPOILERS. Also there was an issue with Martins Microphone, so his sound quality for this part is not up to the usual standard so we apologise for that.

Boaz's pick this week is Luca Guadagnino's Call ME by Your Name. We mainly talk about why we would love to be in Italy right now and that everything is fine in Italy. But as It's their third outing in their own film we are talking threequel films. Of course we can't talk about this subject alone. We are joined by a guest, David from from the take 97: A Film Podcast.

This episode as Godzilla and his best mate Kong are stomping up the box office in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire we are naturally talking monster/kaiju films. And I'm joined by a first timer guest in Parker from the Dissect That Film Podcast.
Warning we will be talking SPOILERS
Parker is up next and decided to be kind to Martin at not stick with the all time classic that has been talked to death about and would absolutely beat pretty much any movies in a fight, Jurassic Park. And instead went with Martins original choice the frankly ultimate kaiju film Pacific Rim. In this one we talk about just how god dam cool the fight scenes are and how they just look so huge in scale. We talk about where the film goes wrong in the script and why Idris Elba is by far the best thing in this. Plus we talk nipples. IMDB page

This episode as Ridley Scott is at it again releasing a new film, this time reuniting with Joaquin Phoenix, sticking a funny hat on him, creating some typically huge Ridley Scott battle scene and calling it Napoleon. This time with a Scott release we are focusing on the films star, Joaquin Phoenix and choose our favourite films of his. Of course I can't talk about one of the most interesting actors on the planet alone. My guest this episode is Matt from the Matt and Mark Movie Show.
Warning we will be talking SPOILERS.
Matt's choice is arguably one of the sweetest sci fi films about AI where the end of the world is not under threat, Spike Jonze's Her. On this one we talk about how the film marries up its sci fi world to rom com structure. We talk about obviously how amazingly Joaquin Phoenix is but also how incredible Scarlet Johansson is by only using her voice. Plus we talk about sweary computer game aliens, dead cats and unfortunately named Pokemon. IMDB page

This episode as a planets and apes collide once again on our big screen with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with a whole new cast and story inching us closer to the original film, yes we are of course talking Planet of the Apes films. Joining the pod to talk all things Ape, and no not in ape sign language, we have not devolved into mutes just yet, is Parker from Dissect That Film.
Warning we will be talking SPOILERS
Martin's turn to go first and is going for the very first ape movie that came way before many us were born, probably, Planet of the Apes which came out in 1968. On this one we talk the opening scenes that features, a lot of cool, unconventional direction walking, lots of desert, walking, POV space ship shots and more walking. We talk about Taylors surprising arc and our differing opinions about that iconic ending with the free lady. We talk about how this film shocked us in how super dark it can get at times. Plus we talk about all of Charlton Heston, and I mean all of Charlton Heston. IMDB page

On our very first episode of the podcast we chose the topic of one of our favourite directors Quentin Tarantino films.
Warning will be talking SPOILERS.
Boaz's pick is Pulp Fiction 1994. Directed and written by Quentin Tarantino. Cinematography by Andrzej Sekula. The film stars Samuel L Jackson, Uma Thurman, John Travolta, Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames. The lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster and his wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption.
This film is one Boaz's favourite films of all time. Boaz attempts one of Sam Jacksons iconic speeches. "Say what again!"
Martins pick is Inglorious Basterds 2009, directed and written by Quentin Tarantino. Cinematography by Robert Richardson. The film stars Brad Pitt, Melanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Diane Kruger and Daniel Bruhl. In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers coincides with a theatre owner's vengeful plans for the same.
When we discuss Inglorious Basterds we may have a slight obsession with Christoph Waltz.
We hope you enjoy our first episode.
