Film Sense

Film Sense

Frank H. Woodward

What is Film Sense? It's a Podcast Documentary Series About Filmmaking In Uncertain Times. For many filmmakers, the 21st century marked the end of cinema as we knew it. Gone were the methods behind the madness of Hollywood. New technologies created uncertainty as well as promise. Traditional sources of financing and distribution had dried up, especially for independent filmmakers and the “middle class” of Hollywood. Film Sense will explore the changing terrain of filmmaking as art and as a business. Through discussions with other amateur professionals, we will share our experiences and hopefully make “sense” of what the future holds.

Film Sense - FILM SENSE: Misty Rosas Has Spoken
play

03/23/21 • 41 min

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

I had the delight of meeting actor Misty Rosas when I interviewed her for my documentary "Men In Suits". Since then her work has gone into hyper-drive thanks to two instantly iconic roles on "The Mandalorian"... Kuiil, the wise Ugnaught, and the endearing Frog Lady. A lot has changed for Misty Rosas. You could even say, "The Force is strong with this one."

Film Sense - FILM SENSE: The Puppet Cinema of Kevin McTurk
play

03/08/21 • 47 min

The puppet ghost stories of Kevin McTurk (The Haunted Swordsman, The Mill At Calder's End, The Narrative of Victor Karloch) are a fine blend of many cinematic influences including George Méliès, Jim Henson, Japanese folk tales, Hammer Horror and so much more.

The masterful way he creates illusions of fantasy and life has amazed film festival audiences around the world. In many ways, I consider him one of the most intriguing filmmakers working today.

So let’s venture into the spirit cabinet with Kevin to hear the method behind his magic.
