FTF Ep. 63 - The Offseason Begins!
Feed the Fire: A Chicago Fire Podcast
11/29/23 • 45 min
Hey, soccer fans! Fresh off the contact extensions of front office executives Georg Heitz and Sebastian Pelzer, the Chicago Fire have started making off-season moves. They announced their options on players and even made a signing! Listen as our host breaks down the players that remain on the Men in Red, why they were mostly expected, and how the new transfer in - Tom Barlow, formerly of New York Red Bulls - will affect the roster construction.
Nick also discusses the latest statement from defender Carlos Teran about him wanting to play in Europe, and what would it take for him to be transferred for several millions of dollars. We wrap up this episode with a recap of the MLS Cup Playoffs, and look forward to the conference finals.

Feed the Fire: A Chicago Fire Podcast
03/17/23 • 21 min
Hey, Fire fans! The Men in Red return home after a disappointing road loss to the Philadelphia Union. Are they up to the task against Midwest and Eastern Conference rival FC Cincinnati? They better be! (Though our host isn't optimistic.)
Tune in as we preview the Chicago Fire's next matchup vs. Cincy. Nick expects Cincy to press, counter-press, and generate a lot of scoring chances, while he expects the Fire to come out with a similar defensive game-plan as they had vs. Philly (and look how that worked out).

FTF Ep. 14 - What did we just watch? Fire Flat vs. DC United
Feed the Fire: A Chicago Fire Podcast
04/03/23 • 33 min
Hey, Fire fans! What did we just watch? I wish I could say the Chicago Fire's flat play vs. DC United was a bad April Fool's joke, but sadly it's a result of an anemic offense, a defense barely holding it together, and a head coach unable to adjust/adapt over the course of a game...or a season...or his career (TBD).
In today's show, our host looks at the offensive woes and how the team is operating on the slimmest of margins for error. Defensively, the team got lucky that Taxi Fountas and Christian Benteke had off-games, otherwise this could've been a 3-0 route at home. (And defense is supposed to be their strength!) Finally, Nick breaks down Fire manager Ezra Hendrickson's post-game comments, revealing that Ezra literally doesn't have the answers.

Hey, soccer fans! It's happy podcast! The Chicago Fire finally get a win, the struggling strikers finally get their goals, and Fire fans once again are teased by the possibility of making the playoffs. Stay tuned to hear how the Men in Red got the win, with a special focus on the play of Greek striker Georgios Koutsias and his potential future with the club.
In the second half, Nick charts the Men in Red's path to the playoffs and looks at some of the moves made by clubs with trophy aspirations. LAFC have re-signed Carlos Vela and added depth to their defense and bench, and Inter Miami have extended the contract of homegrown midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi.

Decision Day Preview: Fire Host Nashville in Battle of the Bad
Feed the Fire: A Chicago Fire Podcast
10/16/24 • 39 min
Hey, soccer fans! The season is nearly over, and Decision Day is upon us. The Chicago Fire host Nashville SC in the final match of the season to help determine who is the worst team of the Eastern Conference (Inter Miami defeating New England would help the Fire out, too.) We know that Nashville likes to play through Mukhtar and to Surridge, so the question is whether the Men in Red keep them in check and counter-attack. If they can, maybe a forgetable season will end on a high note.
In the second half of the show, Nick comments on articles from Tom Boget and Matt Doyle about the Chicago Fire's season and what to expect in the off-season. These MLS pundits expand on our conversations about Gregg Berhalter's job, pieces to build around, and players to unload. Tune in for all this and more with Feed the Fire!

FTF Ep. 91 - Chicago Fire vs. TFC Preview
Feed the Fire: A Chicago Fire Podcast
06/11/24 • 38 min
Hey, soccer fans! Did you enjoy the bye week? I certainly hope the Chicago Fire took the week off to rest, reset, and prepare for their next stretch of away games. Their next match is a difficult but not impossible one at Toronto. While first year manager John Herdman has improved The Reds from last season, they will be without starters Federico Bernardeschi and Nicsoen Gomis due to red card suspensions. I think the Men in Red come home with a 2-1 victory, but they can't take a step back from their recent run of form.
In the second half of the show, we look at headlines from around the league - the Giakoumakis transfer, FC Dallas fire head coach Nico Estevez, and Brian Gutierrez has the 15th highest jersey sale of the 2024 MLS season so far! To close out, we take a brief look at the United States Men's National Team's 5-1 loss to Colombia in an international friendly.

So What's Another Loss? Fire lose to Charlotte, Miami clinch the Shield
Feed the Fire: A Chicago Fire Podcast
10/04/24 • 27 min
Hey, soccer fans! Another match, another loss for the Chicago Fire. Even after being eliminated from the playoffs the week prior, this was still a disappointment. The players and coaches didn't seem to care, and the scoreline belies the continued issues on both offense and defense for the Fire. Tune in as Nick breaks down the goals, stats, and observations from this match.
In the second half, we take a look at the historical season Inter Miami is having. After clinching the Supporters' Shield, can the Herons set the single season point record, win MLS Cup, or both? Nick looks at the past teams that have done it and how the odds of Messi & Co. pulling off this feat aren't too low.

01/23/24 • 40 min
Hey, soccer fans! Welcome back to Feed the Fire, where our host is fired up about Frank Klopas' new staff. He bring in new assistant coaches - Paulo Nagamura and Carlos Garcia - two coaches without any success at the MLS level, and sees the need for two video analysts. At least he kept Zach Thornton.
In the 2nd half of the show, we look at the meniscus injury to starting CB Carlos Teran, provide out takes on the movement of Chicago Sports teams and their stadiums, and review the MLS Transfer Tracker.
