Fearlessly Facing Fifty - EP 83: Choosing Love. A conversation with Scarlett Lewis
play

01/14/21 • 43 min

What would your life be like if you consciously changed an angry thought into a loving one?
This is the mission behind the Choose Love Movement which was founded by Scarlett Lewis after tragically losing her son on December 14, 2012 at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
As I talked with Scarlett, she shared how the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement started the day of Jesse's funeral to honor her son, and to spread a message he left on their kitchen chalkboard shortly before he died. Nurturing. Healing. Love! Three powerful words. The formula for choosing love is #courage #gratitude #forgiveness #compassion. Choosing love in any situation....and boy how we need that formula in our lives right now.
You can find out more about the Choose Love Movement here by viewing their website. All of the materials and resources are free. Scarlett and I will be working together in the coming months with the Fearlessly Facing Fifty community - so stay tuned.
Thank you Scarlett Lewis for sharing your insight and inspiration. You are a treasure.

The Grown & Flown community is something I have been a part of for years. Mary Dell Harrington and Lisa Heffernan has done an incredible job of building this community and have published a book that needs to adorn the shelf of any parent of teens, or young adults. It is a handbook and reference guide that answers all those parenting questions that stop us in our tracks, or simply make us think, "Is anyone else having SAT and ACT prep anxiety like my kid?" or "Are any of you struggling with anxiety with your teen?"
In this episode we talk about:
5:07 How did Grown & Flown got started
9:00 The formation of the FB Group and community
14:30 Top topics for teens and young adults and how you bring in experts to discuss
17:40 The powerful stories of the community helping others
24:1 How do your kids view you since your book launch and the success of G & F
28:21 The importance of mentors along the way
32:16 What advice would you give your 30 year old self
Purchase your copy of the Grown and Flown book: How to support your teen, stay close as a family, and raise independent adults.

Do you ever wonder what it's like to be a producer for some of the most watched and highly rated daytime television shows? In this episode, my guest is the Emmy Award winning TV Producer, and media coach Amy Rosenblum. She has been a force in the broadcast business for over thirty years. Amy began her career at CBS news, where none other than Andy Cohen was an intern, and won an Emmy for a special report she produced with Dan Rather on “Women and AIDS”. Amy's TV career reads like a who's who in the world of daytime talk... Amy was Senior Producer of “The Joan Rivers Show”. Ratings grew, Joan won a Daytime Emmy and Amy and Joan found a lifelong friendship that was truly a bond more like sisters. Next stop Amy was Co-Executive producer on “The Sally Jessy Raphael Show” doubling ratings and from there she went to the “Maury” show where she "single handedly ruined America" (her words lol) by creating the on air paternity test. Amy caught the eye of NBC’s Jeff Zucker, who brought her to Today Show as a Senior Producer. She later created the 10 am hour with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee and paired the two which created the perfect on screen co-host chemistry! Amy now runs her own incredibly successful media training and client management company 'So you wanna be on tv?'
You are not going to want to miss this conversation as Amy shares her journey, her challenges and how she continues to create her #cannonballmoments.

Two midlife, empty nester walk into a cannabis dispensary.....that's what we are talking about today - and you don't want to miss it.
When menopause starts, and often well before, women can stop feeling like themselves. Hormones go haywire and with them your mood; temperature regulation goes out the window; restful sleep becomes a distant memory; and mental clarity vanishes. Women are left to “deal with it.” We think that’s unacceptable.

Meet Carrie Mapes and Patty Pappas, two trailblazing women who decided to launch a business with women of a certain age in mind. Take two lifelong friends, and mix in creativity and attention to detail and you have the perfect combination. They developed a discretely dissolving unique cannabis-infused vaginal suppository which is formulated specifically for daytime and nighttime use so you can say Hello Again to YOU wherever and whenever you choose.

When we start to talk about finances I can feel my face becoming red and flushed. I will admit I'm a work in progress around managing money and today this episode will shed a light around how you can become more confidence when it comes to your finances.
Meet Patty Bonsera, a Certified Financial Educator (CFEI), Financial Wellness Advisor and Coach. She's been married, divorced, spent 11 years as a single mom and later remarried. She's experienced income inequality, worked for a firm that was later indicted in securities fraud (unbeknownst to employees), gave her financial power away to my spouse, (eventually took it back), and lost pretty much everything after 2008 (while hiding all the shame from family) and rebuilt my life.
Over time, after confiding in close girlfriends, she discovered she wasn't alone and came to this overwhelming feeling that she needed to do something about it. That's when her own midlife reinvention started and she came over to personal finance and how Fear.less Girl Financial was born.
This industry needs a makeover and midlife women will not be ignored.

So what is going on? I'm hot. I'm tired. I can't sleep.
Sounds familiar? So many women have questions about menopause.
Does this sound question sound relatable?
“ I wish I knew what all the potential symptoms were so I could be better prepared.” We all know the classic symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, and brain fog, but are there any lesser known side effects that women should be aware of?

Kindra provides ‘proven, estrogen-free solutions, supportive community and personalized resources for managing menopause and relieving symptoms. A former NY Daily News crime reporter and a 14-year continuing tenure as content editor at Woman's World Magazine, Laura Fahrenthold shares her journey of picking up the pieces after the passing of her husband. She drives an RV 31,152 miles across N. America sprinkling her husband's ashes with their "eyeball rolling" teen daughters and a stray dog where the pink steering wheel becomes their well-being, spiritual GPS.

Her late husband was Mark Pittman, Bloomberg investigative financial journalist who doggedly predicted the financial crisis and further sued the Federal Reserve to release information affecting taxpayers.

Laura's book: THE PINK STEERING WHEEL CHRONICLES is a moving portrait of life told with transparency about marriage, motherhood and mourning.
