Love, Loss & Music: Interview with Manchester Orchestra's Andy Hull & Robert McDowell
10/06/21 • 67 min
In this very special and deeply personal episode, Peter interview great indie band Manchester Orchestra's singer, chief songwriter and guitarist Andy Hull and lead guitarist (and brother-in-law) Robert McDowell about the band's latest great album "The Million Masks of God." The album's themes encapsulate the entire cycle of life - from birth to the after-life. Peter reveals that his mother, Eva, just recently passed away from her 5 year battle with cancer – and Manchester Orchestra’s McDowell, lost his father to cancer as they recorded the album. Hull, McDowell and Peter not only have a track by track discussion of the album (and what the lyrics mean to the writers of it). The core of their discussion is about the infinite meanings and impact those same lyrics can have on an artist’s audience. It is an interview about love, loss, and the deep power of music to console and to heal. Peter wrote a companion about this interview for VARIETY – an article titled “Love, Loss & Music: How Manchester Orchestra’s Songs of Solace Helped a Grieving Son Heal." Interview with Ultra-Marathon Man Dean Karnazes: Why & How I Do What I Do (& What Really Matters)
Ultra Marathon Man Dean Karnazes – whose superhuman feats have blown minds and motivated millions around the world - joins Peter for a discussion about how he does what he does. But most importantly, why he does what he does (and universal themes about what really matters in life - which may help you identify your own priorities that matter to you). Dean defines, in every sense of the word, what it means to be "Fearless." He is a legend in the world of endurance sports. He has run 350 miles straight, without sleeping. 50 marathons in 50 consecutive days in all 50 states. 3,000 miles across the U.S. from Disneyland to NYC in 75 days (averaging more than 40 miles per day). He has even run a marathon to the South Pole without snowshoes! He next plans to run from the bottom of the Dead Sea to the top of Mt. Everest. But Dean is so much more. He is a multiple New York Times bestselling author and media figure – appearing on 60 Minutes and all the major late night and daytime talk shows. And he is a US Athlete Ambassador in overseas sports diplomacy. It is a fascinating conversation with an extreme sports legend.
