WHY FAT JOY MATTERS IN PLUS SIZE ROMANCE NOVELS
ALEXIS MANESS | @AUTHORALEXISCMANESS
Fat people are so much more than their bodies and they deserve to see themselves experiencing joy, romance, adventures, and success no matter the size of their bodies!
Alexis Says...
"You deserve to be seen in a positive way in media. You have every right to be there and seek that out and advocate for yourself to have that."
Plus-size romance novels are missing the mark with it comes to writing fat characters with joy and adventures unrelated to their body size and Alexis is stepping up to literally change the story! In this episode, we talk about,
- Fat-neutral representation in media
- Staying in the lines as the token fatty
- Unlearning internalized fatphobia
- How do we engage in fat liberation
- Writing badass fat characters
All Resources We Talked About
- Alexi's Book: Vengeance Becomes Her
- Book: Burnout
- Book: Fearing the Black Body

REWRITING THE BOOK ON PLUS-SIZE RUNNING!
MARTINUS EVANS | @300POUNDSANDRUNNING
In a world where fat athletes are excluded from races, training, clothing, and all other forms of representation ... it just takes one crappy comment from a troll to piss someone like Martinus off enough to create his own size-inclusive world for plus-size runners!
Martinus Says...
"You need to have delusional self-belief. You have to believe in yourself so much, so hard that anybody else around you thinks you're crazy. "
Some of the highlights of our convo include,
- When the Doctor Tells You You're Too Fat So You Decide to Run a Marathon
- When Run Coaches Won't Train Fat People So You Become a Run Coach Instead
- When the Haters Spur You On To Create an Entire Brand Around Their Mean-Spirited Words
- Why We Need to Learn to Do It Afraid and Do It Alone
- When Everyone's Worst Nightmare Comes True: Falling Off the Treadmill
- Why You Need Delusional Self-Belief
Meet the Martinus!
Martinus Evans has run over eight marathons since his doctor told him to โlose weight or dieโ in July 2012. Since then, heโs also coached hundreds of runners and founded the Slow AF Run Club, a community of over 10,000 members worldwide. He is also the author of the book Slow AF Run Club: The ultimate guide for anybody who wants to run who enjoys speaking passionately about issues related to size-inclusivity, mindset, DEI and mental health.

Forget Body Ideals and Find Body Joy!

FORGET SOCIETY'S BODY STANDARDS AND FIND BODY JOY!
FIERCE AND CURVY EMPIRE | @fierceandcurvyempire
At a certain point, we just have to stop giving a crap about other people's opinions (seriously, who cares?) and forget about trying to fit into society's beauty standards for the sake of finding our own body joy! Only then can we start to confidently take up space and be the best version of ourselves...the version that's changing the freaking world!
Queen K Says...
"Taking up space is not giving a damn what anyone else is thinking, to fully experience the moment and not have anything else take you away from that."
How much juiciness can we fit into one podcast episode? You're about to find out! I talked with the Queens of Fierce and Curvy Empire, founder Queen K and her crew Queen D and Queen C, and we dove into what it looks like when we buy into society's body ideals and thin beauty standards and why we have to STOP GIVING A CRAP about all of that and discover our own body joy!
Some of the highlights of our convo include,
- Why we need to stop waiting to lose weight to feel worthy
- Exploring dance in a plus-size body as a journey, not a destination
- What happens when we move for joy, not maximum calorie burn
- Finding body joy when life throws you a curve ball
- The glorious concept of Fat Vanity?
- No longer internalizing body shame that others carry and project onto us
- Why fat representation matters for younger generations
- The frustration of existing in a society that doesn't want to see fat people living their best lives
- When someone tells a fat person they're so brave ... and why sometimes that feels awesome and other times totally sucks!
All Resources We Talked About
Meet the Queens of FACE!
Queen K created FACE, an all-inclusive full-figured dance company that provides a safe and strong community, and believes that everyone has the right to move their bodies and take up space. Queen K is joined by Queen D and Queen C to create a safe and encouraging community to bring out the fierce queen within YOU! This no judgement zone is where we will build each other up, straighten each otherโs crowns, and show the world that we are not defined by our size.

How Body Confidence Helps You Take Up Space
Fantastical Fatty Podcast
03/06/23 โข 45 min
HOW BODY CONFIDENCE HELPS YOU TAKE UP SPACE
KELSEY JONES | @KBTHEWANNAB
Kelsey Jones, alt fat baddie with a passion for makeup and helping others love the skin they're in by showing off her own with no apologies, tells us how to have body confidence so we can take up space and love ourselves no matter what we look like!
Kelsey Says...
"In the self-love journey, no step is too small, as long as it's going in the right direction."
Before Kelsey was an alt fat baddie sharing drool-worthy makeup and fashion on TikTok and Instagram she was following all the "rules" we all so easily fall in line with. That is until she boldly decided to face the fear of the unknown, leave nursing school and begin her self-love and body confidence journey. She's learned that we can't live our lives trying to please others and that self-love and body confidence comes from carving our own path and taking up space as our most powerful, badass selves. In this episode, we talk about,
- Why we can't make ourselves miserable living to please other people
- If people in marginalized bodies are conditioned to live their lives for other people
- Waking up and realizing we don't have any sense of who we are and what we want
- When we question whether we're taking up space or seeking attention
- Who's voicing the bully in our heads that's telling us taking up space isn't ok
- The feeling that comes from wearing what we want and knowing it helps other folks in bigger bodies do the same
- That trolls don't matter; it's about the people who feel better about themselves because of our content

What that means is I will not sleep, I will not rest, and I will not stop until we as a society stop thinking that being fat is bad. More importantly, until you, me, and every other fat baddie out there in the world heals their own body shame, unpacks their own internalized fatphobia, releases toxic diet culture moves beyond seeing their body as an object and connects deeply to their worth, their brilliance and their confidence in their fat identities.
Oh, and also learns to love their fat body. Really appreciate it. Adorn it. Revel in it, and finally feel confident to take up space, and go be freaking amazing.

And yes, ooh, I know those are heavy topics, but they are important topics and quite frankly, I think we need to be talking about them more because we all have so much healing to do and so much unlearning.
But don't get me wrong, this podcast isn't just going to be heavy. We are gonna have so much fun together. We're gonna share advice, tips, and practical steps that you can take along your own fat liberation journey, and you're gonna get connected to some seriously awesome resources, whether that's the creators themselves, books, art, clothing, stores, organizations, communities, you name it.

Body Liberation through Fitness with Damali Fraiser
Fantastical Fatty Podcast
01/18/24 โข 37 min
Body Liberation through Fitness with Damali Fraiser
Many people are moving to position body neutrality over body positivity and Damali believes it's both/and. As Damali says, "We are never just one thing and just as I am a fat black woman that may not always like every aspect of my "both", I wants to seek anything but neutrality when comes to my body!"
In this episode we dive into:
- Defining body neutrality, body positivity and how in the end it's more so about body liberation
- How we can achieve body liberation through fitness
- What it really means to be inclusive in fintess spaces
- Finding community and belonging in your body
- Getting to the root of why so many of us hate our bodies
- Brining equity, inclusivity, and plus size representation to the kettlebell industry
Coaches Corner Waitlist & Free 5 Tools to Reimagine Well-being and Movement Culture
"Inclusivity is not just that somebody is included because people can be included and still not feel like they belong. Getting past token inclusion and really making it about full community care, so that when people are there, they're included, they belong."
About Damali
Damali believes that coaching is meaningful and meaningful coaching is inclusivity. We find inclusivity in fitness through compassion and the practice of dismantling systems of oppression for every BODY. Damali is a former Muay Thai Fighter, Mother of 2, now a non-diet kettlebell and nutrition coach, owner of Lift Off Strength & Wellness (liftoffstrength.ca) who teaches kettlebells in an accessible size-inclusive approach. At Coaches Corner, she also offers coaches, of all modalities of movement, the opportunity to learn to teach kettlebells safely and confidently.

Why Fat Runners Need to Stop Dieting
Fantastical Fatty Podcast

WHY FAT RUNNERS NEED TO STOP DIETING
MIA BRAITHWAITE | @THE_FAT_ATHLETE
Plus Size Running Coach, Mia Braithwaite, brings the heat as she challenges common myths around being a fat runner, plus size athlete, running for weight loss (hint: it's not gonna work), joyful movement, anti-fat bias in medicine, what a runner's body looks like and how to get started running in a fat body. Whew!
Mia Says...
"Weight cycling causes harm to your body and to your fitness goals. You cannot maintain a caloric deficit and be able to do distance running."
Mia is here to change our perception of fat runners and all plus-size athletes in general. She's calling out the misconception that runners are skinny or that the goal of runners in bigger bodies should be weight loss. In fact, we both get heated in this podcast as we yell from the rooftops how unhealthy yo-yo dieting (weight cycling) is, especially if you're trying to achieve a calorie deficit at the same time as you're trying to improve your fitness. In this episode, we talk about,
- What it means to move for joy (not weight loss)
- What it looks like to perform thinness and fitness in order to be considered a 'good fatty"
- Why you can't be a distance runner and starve your body of the fuel it needs at the same time
- How to get started with joyful movement (hint: it starts with listening to your body!)
All Resources We Talked About
Meet Mia!
Mia is an RRCA/USATF-certified running coach for people in larger bodies. Anti-diet, body liberation focus, HAES-aligned. She's here to help fat athletes and plus-size runners learn to run in the body you have now!
