Some new episodes of Fantastic Noise will be landing in a podcast app near you(r smartphone) from Tuesday 15th September. Released weekly on Tuesdays, we'll be starting with a conversation with Maddie Moate, about her new podcast project Maddie's Sound Explorers. In later episodes will look closely at true-crime podcasts, radio station social media, and how the audio industry has responded to the COVID19 pandemic.

Adam Jarrell - from 'The Offensive', an award-winning mockumentary podcast that follows fictional Premier League club Ashwood City FC. He answers questions about the challenges of creating new audio drama and establishing an audience without a radio station backing.

Join us for this very special recording of the Fantastic Noise podcast at the University of Bedfordshire discussing the production of audio drama.

Host Terry Lee is Senior Tutor in Radio & Audio at the University of Bedfordshire. He is also responsible for the award-winning community radio station, Radio LaB 97.1FM.
Joining Terry will be:

Good journalism requires the ability to tell a story that captures the attention of its audience. And there are lots of great examples of good radio and audio storytelling out there now, using journalistic techniques and with qualified journalists guiding the listeners through the process. In this episode we're talking with Editor of BBC Radio 4's Beyond Today podcast, John Shields. We discuss the ingredients of good storytelling, and John gives great advice for budding storytellers. Radio and audio comedy is tough to make. When Terry was on the radio, he would refer to himself as the joke killer - comic line delivery was never his strength... Host Terry Lee is also the Coordinator of the University of Bedfordshire’s community radio station, Radio LaB 97.1FM.
Joining Terry will be:
Luke Moore from podcast smash-hit ‘The Football Ramble’. Following the success of the Ramble, which launched in 2007, Luke has since co-founded ‘Radio Stakhanov’, a podcast production company and publisher which has recently topped the Itunes podcast charts with ‘JaackMaate’s Happy Hour’ & ‘Berkhamsted Revisited’. Luke is also a regular part of TalkSport’s ‘Season Ticket’, as well as occasionally appearing in other programmes in their schedule.
Naomi Oiku, the Chair of the Student Radio Association (SRA). Following her graduation from Southampton Solent University in 2014, Naomi has worked at a number of radio organisations including Transmission Roundhouse, Celador, Kiss & her present employer Virgin Radio. For the SRA Naomi has been an active member for over 4 years, taking on the role of the South East Regional Officer & Marketing Officer before becoming Chair in 2017.
Dr Lawrie Hallett, Senior Lecturer in Radio at the University of Bedfordshire. Lawrie worked as a producer and presenter on stations in the UK and Europe, before becoming a broadcast consultant specialising in technology and community-based broadcasting. Prior to working at the University of Bedfordshire, Lawrie was part of Ofcom's Radio Team where I developed and implemented policies around community radio and digital audio broadcasting in particular. He has also operated an Ofcom Small-Scale DAB Trial in Norwich since September 2015.
