It’s been 50 years since we started Scripture In Song and what a wonderful journey it’s been! After we collected and curated all the albums, adverts, newspaper clippings, magazines, cassettes, vinyls and books from over the years, we thought what better way to commemorate the past 50 years by creating an online museum of history. Only God could have orchestrated a story like this and we’re so grateful that He did. It’s been an honour to lead you all in worship over the years and we pray this timeline/museum is a both a blessing and a joyous look at what God’s done through two unlikely followers of Jesus from Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Born in Bogota, Colombia, eager to explore new opportunities, Monica immigrated to the United States in 1998, armed with only a single suitcase, three hundred dollars, a J-1 Work Visa, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and unbridled ambition.

Quickly working to acquaint herself and embrace the American Culture, she took advantage of the countless opportunities this great nation has to offer as she pursued and earned her Master’s degree in International Relations and Political Science.

Beyond her academic pursuits, she became deeply involved in her community, volunteering for grassroots causes, canvassing neighborhoods, and campaign management. She worked for a major insurance company, advancing to become their Grassroots Chairwoman. In 2005, she obtained her American citizenship.

Later, she transitioned to Director of Strategic Initiatives for a political committee and as a Public Outreach Director for the United States House of Representatives. She also specialized in Homeland Security and Immigration matters, exemplifying her commitment to the country that welcomed her twenty-five years ago.

Throughout her journey, Monica has given back to the community. Her volunteer work includes roles as a former member at large for a County Board, captain for Special Olympics, and a team member for the United Way. She also served on the AZ Commission of Preventing Domestic Violence, appointed by Governor Ducey, and was a valued member of a former U.S. President’s National Latino Advisory Board. She graduated from the FBI Citizens Academy and is Toastmasters certified.

Monica is a testament to the millions of migrants who thrive in America and have realized their dreams with determination and dedication. She remains a proud Latino immigrant who embodies the spirit of success that defines this great nation. She is the American Dream.

I came from years of torment, abuse, addiction, homelessness and wavering faith. In 2017, I had an encounter like no other. Jesus not only met me in my car during a suicide attempt. He followed me to an altar a week later. Sitting in the church, hearing an altar call. My feet moved before I could even think about what was happening. It was at that moment at the altar, my life changed and began. I left that church with the knowledge and love of God like never before. My story is a testimony of radical deliverance and revival. It didn’t stop there. After touching my life. He touched my husband’s life. In just 3 short months we renewed our vows and in a years time, our family was restored. Old things passed away and all things became new. And in that restoration our hearts never left the streets. 2020 when all doors were being closed due to Covid. God sent us out to church the unchurched. The first week. We fed 150 with 11 people giving their lives to Christ. The second week we fed over 200 and 22 people gave their lives. And it hasn’t stopped there. We regularly serve over 300 people and supply them with food, clothing, resources, and the Word of God. We have seen and heard countless testimonials of individuals getting off the streets, radically healed, set free and delivered. Supernatural healing. Supernatural provision and unexpected restoration among family. We believe in the power of God and the prayers of His people. I have seen first hand His undeniable love. And as the body of Christ we can work together and reach those that feel unseen and love them back to life.

James Gutierrez is a student athlete at AZ Christian University and studying for a bachelors degree in business with an emphasis in entrepreneurship. He will be graduating in May 2023.

Dr. Cathy Smades is an ordained minister called to evangelize and preach the gospel. She moves in the prophetic through song, preaching, intercession and personal words. She brings a message of grace that opens up a move of joy, righteousness and peace. She brings restoration and healing through the Word for all that results in supernatural freedom from afflictions. Dr. Smades is an ordained minister, worship leader and a Pastor at Intimacy with Jesus Church. She has a doctorate in ministry and an honorary doctorate for mission work. She has traveled extensively taking the gospel to many other nations including Mexico, Haiti, Africa, Northern Europe, Honduras. She raised four children with her late husband Rick and has three grandchildren.
