Expert Guidance for Effective Management and Appropriate Monitoring of Patients With Pain

From Erik Shaw, DO, FAAPMR, and the Opioid REMS Education Initiative, an introduction to pain and pain management. In this podcast, Dr. Shaw provides an overview of the different types of pain, including their physiology, their psychological burden, and the transition from acute to chronic pain. Also discussed are the various available pain management strategies and the need for a treatment approach that goes beyond medication. Special attention is called to the importance of multidisciplinary care and the education of all members of the healthcare team on pain management.
