The remarkable Thylacine (or 'TASMANIAN TIGER') was a carnivorous marsupial that existed in Australia and Tasmania up until 1936. DNA exists that could allow us to clone one - but should we?
MARK from Evolution Soup catches up with PROFESSOR ANDREW PASK from his home in Melbourne, Australia to talk about Thylacine history, biology, and how he was able to successfully sequence its genome.
Andrew Pask is the Professor of BioSciences the University of Melbourne. He has published over 100 papers on developmental genetics particularly using eutherian-marsupial comparisons. Of note, his recent work involved sequencing the genome of the extinct thylacine and was the feature article in Nature Ecology and Evolution.
