Sophie Toscan Du Plantier, who also went by her maiden name of Bouniol, lived in Paris with her film producer husband, Daniel, and a son from her first marriage, Pierre. She had visited Ireland several times as a teenager and bought the cottage at Toormore - a remote part of rural West Cork - in 1993 as a holiday retreat. While visiting just before Christmas in 1996, she became the victim of one of Ireland’s most well-known unsolved crimes
