Tere tulemast, welcome! This is EstoCast!
Muusika, ajalugu, raamatud, eestlaseks olemise võlud ja valud... sellest kõigest me räägimegi!
EstoCast started as a simple idea in the early part of 2022, to start a podcast where we could talk at length about this country that we call our home away from home—Estonia. Estonians love to talk about their country... and we hope you’ll like to listen just as much as we like to talk!
EstoCast jõuab teieni tänu Torontos Tartu College ́is sõbralikult koos tegutsevatele partneritele: Väliseesti Muuseum/VEMU ehk Estonian Museum Canada, VEMU seni suurim kultuuriprojekt Estonian Music Week ning ajaleht Eesti Elu/Estonian Life.
EstoCast came together through the joint collaboration of three distinct organizations working under the same roof in Toronto: VEMU Estonian Museum Canada, Estonian Music Week, and Eesti Elu / Estonian Life newspaper.
Be sure to follow us on your chosen streaming platform. Also make sure to subscribe to Estonian Museum Canada/VEMU and Estonian Music Week email newsletters and to Eesti Elu / Estonian Life newspaper. (Links below)

It’s apparent that Markus Pukonen, the Founding Director and Lead Explorer of Routes of Change, loves movement, primarily through his own muscle power and in nature. He loves it so much that he went around the entire world over the last eight years without the use of motorized vehicles.
And now that he’s completed his travels and returned to Canada, we caught him for a short conversation, in which he tells us about:

As Anneliis Kits sees it, musicians are humans just like everyone else. And yet, in the way they are idolized and/or vilified, many artists have had their humanity taken away from them. She wants to change that, for the sake of their health and wellbeing.

She also cares deeply about women becoming more represented in the music industry. Having recently spent time in Canada as part of The Global Network for Women Music Producers, she joined us to talk about:🎤 how safety plays a major role in education and artistic exploration
🎤 being authentic and vulnerable in creating music
🎤 the positive change cultivated by The Global Network for Women Music Producers

Ambassadors can be seen as the public face of a country, someone who seeks a stronger relationship between their nation and a host country. You may have seen this first hand with former Estonian Ambassador to Canada, Toomas Lukk, who spoke at various Estonian events in Canada between 2018 and 2022.
But beyond surface level, what are the duties and responsibilities of an ambassador? What is it like to move around the world (as described in this audio clip) and switch the focus of your efforts frequently? In this episode of EstoCast, Ambassador Lukk describes the unexpected origins of his ambassadorial path, what he has experienced in Canada, and what’s next for him.
In this episode of EstoCast, Ambassador Lukk gives an inside look into:

✅ how he engaged with Canadians across Canada and also back in Estonia

✅ the symbolism of Halifax’s Pier 21 that connects both countries

✅ the other nations he’s served in over the last three decades

✅ his approach to learning new languages when assigned to a new posting

2025. aasta on kuulutatud Eesti Raamatu Aastaks - möödub 500 aastat esimese eestikeelse trükise ilmumisest. Sel puhul kutsub EstoCast külla põnevaid inimesi - lihtsalt kirglikke raamatusõpru, aga ka selle valdkonna professionaale Eestist, Kanadast ja mujalt. Meie esimeseks külaliseks on Muhumaalt pärit dr.

📕 kuidas raamatud Kadri ellu tulid

📕 mida ta arvab kohustuslikust kirjandusest kooliprogrammis

📕 kuidas inglise keel mõjutab noorte eesti keele oskust ning mida teha, et neid meelitada eestikeelset kirjandust lugema

📕 miks on eestikeelse trükisõna alalhoidmine ja toetamine tähtis
