Esoterotica, Erotica from New Orleans

Esoterotica, Erotica from New Orleans

Esoterotica

Esoterotica is a revolving cast of poets, writers, and storytellers based out of New Orleans exploring what it is to be sensual, sexual, creative, and connected. Erotica is defined in the dictionary as "literature or art designed to arouse sexual desire." We do not think this is enough. To us, erotica explores an integral part of the human experience, the pleasures of the senses. It combines the two binders of humanity, written language and sexual experience. We encourage you to enjoy this exploration with us.

In honor of our tenth year performing original erotica in New Orleans, we present to you “Sexiest Selections: In Four Acts.”
Each year Esoterotica’s “Sexiest Selections” celebrates our favorite pieces from the previous year in a series of beautifully curated shows. This year is no different, even though everything is. The pieces that make it into “Sexiest Selections” are voted on by the Provocateurs themselves.
For the last three Wednesdays of January and the first Wednesday of February 2021 (January 13th, January 20th, January 26th, and February 3rd), we will feature 46 pieces of poetry and prose from 25 writers as well as small insights and intimate memories shared by the provocateurs themselves. Come experience this retrospective with us in live premiere chat on YouTube or anywhere you find your favorite podcasts. We miss you.

Welcome to Esoterotica’s "All on a Mardi Gras Day" for February 17th, 2021.
Mardi Gras is one of the most misunderstood holidays in America. Most of the country views it as nothing more than a drunken street party of the most epic scale. And it is that. But that’s not nearly a full description.
Those of us who are lovers and children of the Crescent City see it differently. While we certainly are known for throwing the best party in the nation to which the world is invited, it is also a holy day.
If you know, you know. And if you don’t, it is hard to explain it. Some things can only truly be known deep in the center of you—or not at all.
Tonight six of our Provocateurs bring to you slivers of their Mardi Gras.

Featuring:

  • Roux B Shears
  • Aimé Sans Savant
  • Megan Doe
  • Andy Reynolds
  • and a duet by Geoff Munsterman & Shadow Angelina

Welcome to Esoterotica’s “Kinky Fucks” for May 12th, 2021.
If you’ve never been to an Esoterotica event—you may not know that we are some kinky fucks. Our Provocateurs get into all sorts of... let’s say less than usual sexual practices. And we do love them for it. If you’re interested in knowing more, you’ll need to ask them yourselves. And I highly recommend doing that. We have a quickie show tonight but it’s thick with the good stuff.
And you’re going to want to stick through to the end for some major news that we are so excited about...
Featuring:

  • Panzachual
  • Just Shannon
  • Mike Marina

And with that we come to the end of Esoterotica’s “Kinky Fucks.” There are all sorts of words that are used to describe those with kinky proclivities. Some we embrace, others we reject. But we here at Esoterotica encourage you to be safe, sane, and consensual when seeking to dig in and shed the shame for what may not be on the average menu.
Join us in two weeks for our theme, "Bare Essentials." What are your green flags? What turns you on, sets your dials to yes, turns your sails in the direction of a person.
And now for our news...
On Wednesday, June 9th at 9pm you can find us back home in the AllWays Lounge on Saint Claude Avenue in New Orleans, Louisiana. It will have been one year and three months since we have been able to deliver our passion and poetry from the stage and I know I speak not only for myself when I say that I am ecstatic and grateful to be returning. Our cover will be $5 and we are elated to see your masked faces and reconnect with you in the flesh.
Music tonight was “Tales” by Ketsa.

Welcome to Esoterotica’s "Myths and Lore" for October 28, 2020.
For all of the measures and milestones, horrors and triumphs that humanity has faced, what does not change is our desire to talk about it. Our species has sought to understand itself through the art of storytelling since we began communicating. And many of those stories endure and echo in us to one degree or another, for thousands of years.
Often when we hear the words myth and lore, we can mistakenly think of them as interchangeable. A myth is a story or legend passed down whose roots can be factual or fictitious. The word myth is also often used to mean false. Lore is traditional knowledge passed down. It encompasses a learning and study honed through generations.
Tonight our Provocateurs will delve into both sides of the theme. From their most earnest truths to finding depth and needed meaning in the fanciful.

Welcome to Esoterotica’s, "Tarot: The Spread" for June 22, 2020.
We humans have been trying for thousands of years to understand ourselves and our place in the cosmos. Some think we have been using tarot for divination toward that end since sometime in the late 18th century, but it’s probably been much longer than that.
Tarot and similar tools have long been sought after for their guidance using symbolism to better address the spiritual, emotional, traumatic, and divine journey we are on.
Join us tonight for our personal interpretations of the Major and Minor Arcana.

Storytelling is one of the most sacred acts that humans can engage in. It has the capacity to elevate our minds while making us excruciatingly relatable to one another across hundreds or thousands of years.
Every culture engages in the weaving of tales, from valor to heartbreak, from simple pleasures to moments of heart-stopping bravery. The crosses we bear, the scars from what we’ve survived, and the love we’ve experienced that make them worth it.
Humanity thrives on storytelling. It is how we convince ourselves and others, not to give up yet. And at this time in history in particular, I can think of nothing more deeply needed.
Tonight our Provocateurs have brought to mind some of the writers and their language that have brought out the creativity in them. Be that of a sexual, emotional, or intellectual nature. Some will explain their inspiration, others will not, either way we invite you to lean in with us for, “Inspire Me.”
