Equivalent Exchange: A Fullmetal Alchemist Podcast
Stay Together Network | Ellen, Kayla, & Kassem
Teachings that do not speak of pain have no meaning, because humankind cannot gain something without first giving something in return. In alchemy, to obtain something, something of equal value must be lost—this is equivalent exchange.
Join hosts Ellen, Kassem, and Kayla as we read through Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa chapter by chapter, exploring every twist, turn, explosion, transmutation-gone-awry, and moment of connection (and hubris) the series has to offer. Fans old and new will enjoy deep discussion—and a few tangents and laughs along the way.

Ed, Al, Winry, Ling, Lan Fan, and Fu arrive in Central... where Ling promptly faints and gets picked up by the police for traveling without a passport. No one is able to break the news of Hughes’ death to Ed, Al, and Winry, but they soon find out nonetheless.
Roy continues to investigate the military and Hughes’ death with the help of Sheska. The homunculi continue to move their mysterious plans forward—Envy surveilling the military in disguise, and Lust too has a new contact within the military. With Roy getting uncomfortably close to their schemes, Envy sets a plan in motion to keep him preoccupied.
When a familiar face is accused and convicted of Hughes’ murder, an escape plan is set in motion, but it’s not quick enough for Roy, who burns the resistant convict so badly, the coroner has trouble identifying them.
Winry, then Ed and Al, visit Gracia Hughes to pay their respects and apologize. The kids are torn up about the death, especially Ed and Al, who are unsure who to trust and how to move forward in their quest to restore their bodies.
The homunculi learn of a loose end from the Lab 5 incident that needs to be tied up... but it turns out they already have what they need to find Barry the Chopper.

Havoc is discharged, but not off Roy’s list of allies just yet.
Ed returns to central, more sure than ever that Al’s body can be restored. Unsure of how exactly to move forward, they decide they need to learn more about the lab and the homunculi. Ed returns to Rush Valley to get his arm repaired. After the catch up with Paninya and requisite beating from Winry, he and Al head into town and find another passed out dude from Xing... and he’s a prince! They revive him at the local pub as well, and he asks if they know anything about... the Philsopher’s Stone. Ed and Al try to leave but are pursued by Ling’s bodyguards, and half the town is destroyed... again.
It turns out literally everyone is heading to Central—even our old friend Scar.
