Interview with Josh Nichol - A Horseman's Pursuit

Interview with Josh Nichol - A Horseman's Pursuit
I was very pleased when Josh kindly agreed to do an interview with me.
Josh was recommended by one of my listeners to a previous interview I did, which I am very grateful for.
As the interview progressed, it was very apparent that Josh has a slightly different way of connecting his clients to their horses.
In fact, I found it very hard to concentrate on being an interviewer, as all I wanted to do was sit back in a chair and listen to his explanation on how his work empowers the horse as well as the people he works with.
I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did.
Josh speaks from the heart and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to energy, horses and people.
We only just scratched the surface.
So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this episode.
Josh's Story:
Even from his younger years, it was readily apparent to those around him that Josh Nichol had a remarkable gift when it came to interacting with horses. Fortunate enough to have parents that noticed his affinity for the equine early on, much of Josh’s life has been spent developing his understanding and knowledge of horsemanship. Under the guidance of world-class mentors, Josh quickly learned his life’s calling: continually seeking and developing better methods of creating long-lasting relationships with one of God’s most fascinating and beautiful creatures. Driven by a passion for connecting with, and understanding the needs of horses, Josh has created a transformative approach to horsemanship: Relational Horsemanship.
Relational Horsemanship is built on a foundation of forming a deep connection with our horses by striving to understand their needs and empowering them to perform at peak capacity rather than dominating them. Refined over two decades of experience working with clients from across Canada and across multiple disciplines, Josh’s method has rapidly gained an international following among horse owners and equine professionals alike.
Josh’s students now span the globe, with a wide variety of services and training materials ensuring that his Relational Horsemanship method is easily accessible. What began as an interest in spreading a deeper understanding of these incredible creatures has evolved into a rich fountain of knowledge for everyone, from recreational enthusiasts all the way up to Olympic competitors.

Interview with Patrick Sullivan - Gamilah Unbridled Ride across America
Equine Voices Podcast
07/24/21 • 24 min
I hope you enjoy this episode with Patrick as much as I did taking part in it (even when we had a slight tec hitch - connection)
It was still great to chat with an amazing guy who speaks from and with the heart.
Apart from this being the shortest podcast interview I've ever done (excluding the ones on my own) I can honestly say I don't think I've mentioned the word "wow" quite as often as I have in this one with Patrick. . . lol
This conversation will continue at some point in the future but for know . . . sit back, put your feet up and enjoy!
A Little Background:
Patrick Sullivan and Gamilah (one of his horses) are traveling from California to Kentucky, riding completely at Liberty, 100% bridleless, while primarily bareback.
Done all in the name of charity and liberty, giving back to people and horses along the way.
THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME: Patrick Sullivan’s pursuit of Liberty!
Gami, Hal, and I will continue to explore and evolve what defines our relationship. Together, we will build on what we have previously learned and developed from our time spent practicing Liberty; as we set off on this 2,500 mile journey across the country riding the entire journey bridleless, completely at liberty!
Within each state we will be visiting various horse rescues, farms, and charitable organizations to give back in the name of liberty. All education and work with the horses/people will be FREE of charge to the organizations, and all donations during these events will go towards each individuals non-profit!
At each rescue, we will be spending multiple days with their horses and teaching them the art of liberty. Being able to connect with your horse without the use of ropes or control devices. We will document each day and by the end of the clinic, you’ll see incredible results with each of the horses!
With this journey, I strive to reach out to all those who have a passion and love for horses, whether one grew up around them or not. I extend an invitation for those to connect who seek a deeper connection, and bond, with horses to join me: Whether through social media, a message, a word of encouragement, a donation, or by bringing your horse out for a ride to join us for part of the trip. We love stories and we want to hear yours! I wholeheartedly believe in dreaming big, and I strive to keep the fire our respective dreams burning, as we evolve throughout our individual horsemanship journeys, together.
Dedicated to those who Dare to Dream.

Interview with Andrea Wady - Crossing Bridges
Equine Voices Podcast

Interview with Andrea Wady - Crossing Bridges.
I'm very excited to announce an interview with Andrea Wady.
I came across a facebook post introducing Andrea's new book and after reading a short extract, I knew this was a lady I would love to hear more about.
We chatted about their amazing adventure in costa rica, alongside one of her companions Elsa Sinclair and equally as amazing their two rescue horses. We also discussed her journey to being a liberty coach trainer and any plans she may have for the future.
I hope you enjoy my chat with Andrea, as she shares a little insight into her journey with horses, from all walks of life.
So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this episode.
Andrea Wady - Crossing Bridges.
Now more than ever the Spirit of Adventure is a much needed tonic, like the beautiful bright orange sun climbing over the back hedge outside my window, it is awakening and shaking its tail feathers.
I can feel it calling to me now, it’s time to explore again. Moving home from 18 years in Costa Rica, nursing a sick relative to end of life, and of course the pandemic rather abruptly moved my wandering spirit into repose. But like everything in life, it goes full circle and change is once more coming. I feel myself stretch up and out, ready to embrace a new chapter in life. Do you feel the change in the air? A planet of beautiful people once more wanting to experience life to the full.
When I left the UK twenty years ago for a vacation in Costa Rica, from which I never returned, I had no idea what an incredible roller coaster of a ride it would be. Sometimes there was WAY too much adventure, sometimes I was overwhelmed by fear, sometimes there was SO much joy I felt I could have bottled it 1000 times over and had plenty to spare. In short, it was the most glorious experience of my life. The pandemic changed all that of course, and as myself and my husband climbed onto an evacuation flight and headed home to the UK to care for family, I don’t mind admitting that I feared adventure would be in very short supply. The first winter back in England, as the world was still locked down, I felt so stagnant! I could hardly lift my feet from the mire. I had to change something, I was yearning for adventure, but I didn’t know what.
I have long learnt to be open to opportunity and know it rarely comes in the way we expect it. I felt so restless, I couldn’t sleep, so at 5am on a frozen white November morning I wrapped myself in a blanket and crunched across the grass to my writing hut. My tropical blood, recoiling at the cold, promptly abandoned my toes and hid deep inside my body. Reaching the relative warmth of the shed, I truthfully had no idea where to start. I held a steaming cup of tea and sat in front of a blank screen. It happened of course, I just started typing and words started to fill my page, I felt the incredible flow state descend like mist around me. In all honesty, I don’t feel like I wrote the words of my book, sure it was my fingers that were on the keyboard, but I finally understood there are stories out there waiting to be told, they just need to find someone to open enough to let them flow through them, that is how it felt for me.
I should never have doubted the universe!

Interview with Crissi McDonald and Mark Rashid
Equine Voices Podcast

Interview with Crissi McDonald and Mark Rashid.
I'm so excited! I asked Crissi a while ago if she would like to join me for a chat.
She's been so busy with clinics and travel so it wasn't easy to fix a date but I'm happy to confirm we've finally recorded our session.
As an added bonus, Mark kindly agreed to join us both as a guest too . . . how lovely is that!
Two wonderful very successful individuals in their own right.
I was so looking forward to chatting with Crissi and Mark and I wasn't disappointed.
Crissi and Mark brought both knowledge and laughter to our conversation and they were happy to answer a few questions from the viewers who joined the live too.
Two very special guests who are not only down to earth but also have a wealth of knowledge individually, as well as combined.
So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this episode.
Crissie McDonald.
Growing up she was most motivated when the work she did would earn her time with horses: lessons, mucking stalls in trade for a ride on a friend’s horse, babysitting to earn enough money for lessons, seeking out and finding horses where ever she could. Little did she know that all this time spent doing work would also be teaching her as well. She was certified as an instructor through the CHA when she was twenty and got her first horse at twenty-four years old. Three more followed within two years.
She's had the pleasure to participate in western riding, working cattle, leading trail rides, managing large herds, showing in Hunt Seat Equitation and Dressage, taking jumping lessons, and has spent over thirty years working with many different breeds of horses and people from all over the world, as well as having the opportunity to learn from some of the horse industry's top leaders in our current understanding of humane horse practices.
Crissi enjoys teaching at clinics with her husband Mark Rashid. She's a certified Masterson Method® equine bodyworker since 2017 and is also an instructor for the Masterson two-day Beyond Horse Massage workshops. Crissi is the author of three books, two about the human/equine bond. Her other book, North to Home, is a fiction novel.
Mark Rashid.
Mark Rashid is an internationally known author and horseman known for his ability to understand the horse’s point of view and solve difficult problems with communication rather than force. He began working with horses at age ten, when he met the “old man,” who taught him to work with horses, not against them, and to listen to what the horse is trying to say. Mark’s clinics are structured as one-on-one work with horses and riders and are immensely popular with people around the world.
When Mark decided to study the martial art of aikido as a way to improve his horsemanship, he brought the same quiet determination to it that he exhibits in his work with horses. After years of practice, he has earned a third degree black belt in Yoshinkan aikido and now teaches the “way of harmony” in the local dojo as well as in his Aikido for Horseman workshops, which are known also by the name of “Aibado.”

Steve Halfpenny - Light Hands Equitation
Equine Voices Podcast

Interview with Steve Halfpenny.
I'm very pleased to announce an interview with Steve Halfpenny.
I came across Steve many years ago on YouTube while doing a little research on gentle horsemanship. I bought a few of his light hands video tutorials (tapes, not cd's so that shows how long ago it was) I loved his approach and manner with the horses he worked with.
I hope you enjoy listening to this interesting and exciting view into the world of Steve Halfpenny at Light Hands Equitation.
I loved our conversation and the surprise was I wasn't expecting it to go the way it did, which was a real treat.
So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this episode, as much as I did recording it.
Steve's Halfpenny.
Steve Halfpenny is the founder of Light Hands Equitation and Light Hands Horsemanship Program.
He travels extensively delivering clinics in Australia, NZ and UK and His specialist style of training is not discipline specific and can easily be applied to any form of riding. Steve has proven that with the right training, any horse can be a relaxed and willing riding partner.
Steve's key focus has been to find an easier way for the horse and rider to communicate, creating simpler ways of explaining horsemanship to people, so that they can better understand the horse’s intrinsic nature rather than simply delivering a rote training program.
This technique is not only effective for dressage and competition, but is also highly beneficial for anyone looking to build their horse’s gymnastic ability, create softness in their horse and improve communication between themselves and their equine partners.

Interview with Mona Illerbrun - Berkana.ca - Partner up for horse and rider
Equine Voices Podcast

Interview with Mona Illerbrun - Berkana.ca - Partner up.
Oh boy!
I recently had a message from Mona as she wanted to share something profound that happened to her just over a week ago (prior to this podcast)
Mona is a very enlightened lady and is well aware of her own inner guidance but this took her (and her horse) to a whole new level and although may be a little hard for some people to get their head around, it's a very good and important example, of how changing an automatic behaviour of what we would normally do, can change the outcome in so many ways.
This was a deep, heartfelt and at times funny conversation with Mona.
So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this episode, just as much as I did being part of this conversation.
Mona Illerbrun.
Mona Illerbrun is the owner and facilitator of Partner Up.
She lives off grid in the remote picturesque Blackwater Valley 65 km west of Quesnel, BC, with access to
several heritage trail networks from her doorstep. (AMT, COTT, Canyon Trail,
LHTAKO Trail, Musquash Trail).
Mona’s 60+ year connection and love affair with horses began at birth. She found
herself always striving to make it better for the horse and this path lead her to the realisation that she, as the human, was the key.
At a very young age she was honing her skills energetically and using energy to communicate with horses while at the same time utilising her curiosity, visual acuity and awareness to decipher what the horse was saying.
This led to fluency in horse and her dedication to do “with” her horse instead of “to”.
Mona spends her time during the summer riding in the rugged outdoors and
sharing her passion for trail protection/clearing riding. Over the winter months
she uses teaching as a voice for the horse through the delivery of her 35 + hour
Partner Up Online Workshop.
Partner Up focuses on building a connected partnership with your horse by increasing your awareness of your horse and what they need from you to become trusting, confident and willing partners and by empowering you to strive to be the best you can be so you are able to be what your horse needs in every moment. Discover your honesty, authenticity and acceptance, gain confidence, kick “foe” fear to the curb, and harness your power

Interview with Heather Drummond.
I'm delighted and very pleased to announce an interview with Heather Drummond.
Heather and I have been aware of each other through interactions on social media and also though our own individual mutual interests . . . intuition and horses.
Heather is a woman of many talents, as well as recording her very own podcast, so I was so excited to hear all about her work and her intuition that guides her through her life.
I hope you enjoy this informal and light hearted chat about life, love, horses and the universe, which is Heathers passion.
So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this episode just as much as I did.
Heather Drummond.
Heather enjoys keeping things simple. She uses her intuition and knowledge to work with her clients.
Heather loves empowering people with knowledge and skills to help them support themselves. She has an innovative and unique way of seeing the world and how everything is connected. When she established her business in 2005 after working in the corporate world, she didn't want to compete with anyone in her industry. Heather wanted to be able to work with all aspects of a person's health team. She is a true believer in the power of transformation. She learned from personal experience that self care is a non-negotiable for everyone.
Growing up Heather always had an affinity for animals. Everything she does with her human clients, she enjoys doing for her animal clients. She has put together a unique tool box to support and optimize her clients physical, emotional and energetic well-being. Heather has found great joy including animals in her practice. She also loves working to support owners build better connections with their animals. Heather's intuition over the years has lead her to work with dogs, cats and horses. She loves being able to collaborate with her clients because everyone's intuition and knowledge is important to the process.
Heather dipped her toe in the horse world in a therapeutic riding program in 2015 and since 2019 has dived into the horse world ‘heart first’ and has found her passion. Using all her knowledge and continuing training in Equina Fascia and Trauma Release and the rabbit hole of all things horses as the learning never ends in the horse world. The more we think we learn the more the horse can teach us.
Heather shifted from the corporate world into the entrepreneurial world at 36 years old based on intuition. She has become an advocate for intuition over her career. She created and ran the INTUIT Kids Camp for several years empowering kids to stay connected, embrace their intuition and energy awareness. She also had the intuition to create a podcast to inspire people to listen to their intuition in recent years. Her podcast See'rs, Be-ers, Knowers and Doers brings her so much. It is truly a pleasure to get to know and share people who have wonderful insights and experiences with their own intuition.
Supporting people and animals with tools to reduce their stress and optimize their health is what inspires Heather. She feels blessed being able to do this for a living.

Interview with Pat Cleveland and Paula Bosher.
It's always a pleasure when I get the chance to chat with Pat. It's always such fun!
She has so much energy (which is a bonus in her line of work) that she just jumps of the screen or in this case, the audio.
I've had the pleasure of chatting with Pat on a few occasions as a guest but in this episode, we'll see how the process worked from one of her clients point of view, so that we can get a different perspective.
It gets even more interesting when you realise that the client lives in New Zealand and Pat lives in Alabama USA
Pat is an energetic and funny lady and her conversations usually take on a world of their own.
So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this episode.

Interview with Dr Sam Fielding - www.drsamfielding.com

Interview with Dr Sam Fielding - www.drsamfielding.com
I'm very pleased to announce an interview with Dr Sam Fielding.
This was our second conversation and I was so I'm looking forwards to hearing about her new ventures (her new horse) and what she has been up to since we last spoke.
Sam is a lovely warm, open person who has discovered a different way of being in this world and the great thing is, she is able to help other people do the same and who knows, they may even achieve their dreams too.
So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this episode.
Dr Sam Fielding.
Dr Sam is an Ivy league educated Dr of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Growing up in a family of orthopaedic surgeons, she found her way to acupuncture, through her life long passion for horses.
Growing up in Maryland, Sam rode hunters, jumpers, and event horses as well as worked professionally for steeplechase and timber racehorse trainers. All she wanted to do was to ride professionally, but with zero support from her family in a career as a pro rider, she chose to go to vet school instead.
As life will do, she quickly realised that being a vet wasn’t the life for her, and began a decades long journey of “following the crumbs” to a life that she could never have imagined.
From a horse obsessed kid straight out of college, to a becoming a professional skier in 5 years from a pretty mediocre beginner, the love of the amazing rides she chased in her youth, became a life filled with following her bliss, in whatever life provided. And that meant over two decades away from horses full time.
After a debilitating struggle with PPD, after the birth of her first daughter, struggling from suicide, she found her way back to a life she thought she’d never experience again with the help of horses.
It has become her life’s work to share her understanding of how we shape the worlds we live in through the power of our minds. And firmly believes that all lovers of horses share a unique gift in our connection to horses. She shares her perspective on the power of our connection to horses and it's purpose to help us heal as individual humans, and from there expand our compassion to help heal not only our communities, but also heal the world.

Interview with Douglas Jones - Freelance Coach and Equestrian Training
Equine Voices Podcast
04/18/22 • 43 min
Interview with Douglas Jones.
I was very pleased when Douglas agreed to do an interview with me. He's such a lovely big hearted soul and it was great to chat with him.
We first met at one of the summer horse camps I attended as an equine communicator. Since then we have become friends, albeit at a distance, we have stayed in touch from time to time.
He is a kind gentle soul with a passion for his work.
So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this fun, enlightening and informative episode.
Douglas Jones.
Douglas has been riding since the age of 5 and being from a large family his parents were unable to afford a pony so he begged, borrowed and worked for rides on any and every horse he could. Usually this meant the trickiest, naughtiest and most stubborn animals were his mount and so developed a reputation for successful training of an getting results from the most difficult of horses which has continued throughout his career
Competitively Douglas has had success in pure dressage competing up to advanced medium, showjumping to 1.30m level and eventing to intermediate level. Some highlights of his career have been to win the BUSA National equestrian championship whilst at university; representing GB on the student games teams; producing and competing and winning national championships on the leading coloured stallion in the uk for 3 years running and even being (as a junior) a successful carriage driving competitor winning Junior Whip at Cirencester Driving Trials more years ago than he cares to admit!
He's also lectured at two leading equestrian colleges, managed large competition yards and trained clients in all disciplines from beginners right through to national championship level riders. He is an selector and trainer for various riding clubs and pony clubs for both area and national competition, Judges horse trials dressage and also is often asked to be ride judge at warmblood gradings.
He has a calm and friendly approach to training both horses and riders and will push you to challenge your limits but will never ask you or your horse to do anything outside your capabilities.
The psychology of the horse and rider individually and as a combination fascinates Douglas and is the reason he loves working with riders and their horses to help them achieve and hopefully exceed their goals”
