The story of Josheb-Basshebeth, one of David's mighty warriors, highlights his extraordinary feat of killing 800 men with his spear in a single encounter (2 Samuel 23:8). Joshed act of faith and courage defied the odds. And that’s what Lion Chasers do, they pursue the seemingly impossible tasks or challenges that God places in our hearts. Just as Benaiah chased a lion into a pit, and Josheb-Basshebeth defied overwhelming odds. Lion chasers step out in faith and tackle God-given challenges, no matter how big they may appear.

Chase the Lion | Run Towards the Roar | Pastor Jamie Kemp

The Chase the Lion series begins with the inspiring story of Benaiah from 2 Samuel 23:20–23. Benaiah didn't run from danger—he chased a lion into a pit on a snowy day and killed it. This bold move changed the trajectory of his life, leading to promotion and purpose.
2 Samuel 23:20-23 NLT
There was also Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant warrior from Kabzeel. He did many heroic deeds, which included killing two champions of Moab. Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion down into a pit and killed it. (21) Once, armed only with a club, he killed an imposing Egyptian warrior who was armed with a spear. Benaiah wrenched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with it. Deeds like these made Benaiah as famous as the Three mightiest warriors. (23) He was more honored than the other members of the Thirty, though he was not one of the Three. And David made him captain of his bodyguard.
Your destiny is not a mystery. It’s the result of your daily decisions and defining decisions.
What fears do you need to confront? What daily decisions and habits do you need to start doing or stop doing to pursue your God given purpose in God’s global plan?
There are three key parts of every lion chaser’s journey:
- The Pursuit – Courage to step toward challenges rather than away.
- The Pit – Trusting God even in the dark, hard, and confusing moments.
- The Promotion – God honors and elevates those who are faithful in private and difficult seasons.
Benaiah’s life reminds us that when we consecrate ourselves to God and step out in faith, God will do amazing things. If we do our job, God’s going to do His job.
SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- What’s your lion?
What fear or challenge or dream do you feel God is calling you to face or chase in this season? - Have you ever experienced a “pit” moment?
Share a time when your faith was tested, and what helped you get through it. Or maybe you feel like you’re “in a pit” right now and what to share it. - “Destiny is the result of daily decisions and defining decisions.”
What are some small, consistent choices you can start making to grow in your faith? - Read 2 Timothy 1:7 — “For God has not given us a spirit of fear...”
Is there a “defining decision” that you need to make, but it seems too scary or too big to make? - Consecration means to be set apart for God.
Are there areas of your life that need to be changed so you can pursue your God-given purpose in God’s global plan?

Hello I AM | Change Those Clothes | Pastor Jamie Kemp

In this powerful Easter message, we explored Jesus’ declaration in John 11:25: "I am the resurrection and the life." Through the story of Lazarus, we saw how Jesus meets each of us in different ways:
- Martha, wrestling with doubt, needed truth — and Jesus revealed who He is.
- Mary, drowning in grief, needed presence — and Jesus wept with her.
- Lazarus, bound by death, needed resurrection — and Jesus called him to life.
Jesus doesn't just do miracles; He is the miracle. He doesn’t just bring resurrection — He is resurrection. And when we encounter Him, we are invited not just to come alive spiritually, but to take off the “grave clothes” — our shame, fear, and brokenness — and put on the grace and freedom only He offers.
Discussion Questions
- Which character do you most relate to right now — Martha, Mary, or Lazarus — and why? (Doubt, grief, or feeling spiritually stuck?)
- What are some "grave clothes" in your life that Jesus may be inviting you to take off?
(e.g. insecurity, addiction, guilt, unforgiveness) - Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.” How does believing in who Jesus is impact how you live today — not just your eternity?
- Have you ever felt like God was “late”? How can the idea of “God's timing” reshape your trust in Him?
- What does it practically look like to “put on grace clothes” in your daily life — in your relationships, studies, or future plans?

If you only had one day to prep a team to save the world 🌍, what would you tell them?
Jesus basically found Himself in that position on His last day of ministry, so He made sure His disciples knew the basics:
🤲 Serve others
❤️ Love each other
🙏 Know that the only way to God is through Jesus
It may not be a popular position 😬, but it’s the truth that sets us free! The way to God is open to all who will come, but it must be through Jesus.
And in Him, we find everything we’re looking for 💫💖

The true measure of a Christian life is the fruit it produces—specifically, love toward God and others.
Key Scripture:
John 15:1-8 – Jesus says, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener...” emphasizing that we must remain connected to Him to bear fruit.
Main Points:
- Fruit Proves Discipleship
Just like a KTP or passport is used to identify who you are, spiritual fruit is the evidence that we belong to Jesus. We don’t carry a “heavenly ID card”—we show we’re His through our lives. - Fruit Glorifies the Father
God is glorified when we bear fruit. That fruit is our love for God and others, especially those who are hard to love. - Fruit Comes from Connection, Not Effort
We don’t produce spiritual fruit through hard work or ambition but through abiding in Jesus. Busyness ≠ fruitfulness. - God Prunes Us to Make Us More Fruitful
Pruning may feel like loss or disappointment (rejected opportunities, broken relationships), but it’s for our growth—either to direct us or to discipline us for transformation. - Jesus Is the Fulfillment of God's Plan
As the "True Vine," Jesus is the true Israel. If we are in Him, we become part of God’s redemptive plan—to be blessed and to be a blessing.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- In your own words, what does it mean to "remain in the vine" in the context of your daily life? What are some practical ways you can cultivate this connection with Jesus?
- What kind of “fruit” do you see in your life right now—and how do you know it’s from God?
- How can you tell the difference between being “busy” and being “fruitful”? Have you experienced that tension?
- Pruning is for both direction and discipline. Can you think of a time when you experienced God's pruning in your life? How did it shape you?
- Jesus says, "Apart from me you can do nothing." How does this statement challenge the emphasis on self-reliance and individual achievement that is prevalent in today's culture? How can you practically live out dependence on Jesus?
- What steps can you take this week to stay connected to the Vine—especially when life feels dry or disconnected?

Kingdom Builders | Open Door | Pastor Jamie Kemp
English Worship Jogja Podcast
03/09/25 • 27 min
Our goal as a church, and as followers of Jesus, is to Build the Kingdom of God. And that’s what this series, Kingdom Builders, was all about. These past three weeks we’ve focused on three ways we can build the Kingdom of God: Everyone gives; everyone welcome; everyone goes.
Acts 13 is a turning point in the Early Church - where believers went from keeping their faith inside the four walls to taking it to the world. They prayed. They listened. And they went.
Acts 13:1-3 NIV
Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrach) and Saul. (2) While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (3) So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
The three qualities of a Missional Church:
- A Praying Church - Missions begins with worship, prayer, and fasting, which fuel a heart for the lost.
- A Listening Church - God speaks through His Word, and we must be attentive to HIs call to action.
- A Going Church - The Church must act, sending people to places where Jesus is not yet known.
The Principle of Human Agency: God always uses people!
God has opened the door for all of us to go! Will you step through it?
Be a PRAYING person.
Be a LISTENING person.
Be a GOING person
Am I seeking a career or am I answering God’s calling?
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- Of the three topics shared during the Kingdom Builders series (everyone gives; everyone welcomes; everyone goes), which one is the easiest for you to do? Which is the hardest?
- One of the Core Values at English Worship is: We Live Missions. What do you think that means?
- The church in Antioch took a bold step in sending out missionaries. What personal fears or obstacles hold you back from living on mission?
- Often our lives are filled with so much noise that it’s difficult to hear the voice of God. What are some of the “loud noises” in your life that might be drowning out His voice?
- What is one step you can take this week to be an “Open Door” Christian - whether that’s praying with someone, sharing your faith, or being a blessing?
PRAYER POINT
God, give me the courage to live as a missionary.

Chase the Lion | Keep Fighting | Pastor Vanessa
English Worship Jogja Podcast
05/11/25 • 35 min
2 Samuel 23:9-10 9 Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite. As one of the three mighty warriors, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines gathered at Pas Dammim for battle. Then the Israelites retreated, 10 but Eleazar stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The Lord brought about a great victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead.
Eleazar was just a normal man, but he was able to accomplish a great feat simply because he decided he wasn’t going to give up. He fought an entire army by himself and won! So many times in our lives we give up when things get hard or people cleave us. If it takes longer than our plan or the way forward is unclear, we stop pursuing God’s dreams for our lives and miss out on the victory. But if there is anything we can learn from Eleazar is that all of us, no matter who we are, can experience supernatural victory when we decide that we are going to hold on to God’s promises and use His power to persevere. Success comes to those who don’t give up!
Discussion Questions
- What is something that usually keeps you from pursuing big dreams?
- What is one situation that was difficult but going through it made you stronger?
- Think about the people closest to you. Do they help you to pursue God’s dreams for your life? If they do, how? If they do not, how can you add people to your circle who will?
- What is one thing you can do this week to build your faith in God’s promises?
