Engaging Virtual Meetings Podcast with John Chen - Breaking the Rules | Hosted by Debra Eckerling with John Chen, Coach Jennie & Deanna Seymour
play

11/01/23 • 73 min

In this episode, Debra Eckerling talks about Breaking the Rules with guests John Chen of Engaging Virtual Meetings, Jennie Mustafa-Julock aka Coach Jennie, and Deanna Seymour, Host, "Eff That: Breaking the Rules of Online Business Podcast."

John, Jennie, and Deanna talk about their backstories and attachment to the topic, as well as their thoughts on the value of breaking the rules, myths from the "info-crack" space, and more. Then, shared their own rules.

Benefits of Breaking the Rules

- John: When you break stuff, you learn more than everyone else. A lot of the time the world breaks you; there's something empowering about choosing to break

- Jennie: Start by breaking the mold of being around like-minded people; it's better to be around diverse-minded people.

- Deanna: Breaking the rules is all about innovation. Remember, step 1 is different for everyone

Rules from our Rule Breakers

- Jennie: Don't make the coach cry. If we're not having fun, we're not doing it right! Uncle Tony (Robbins) is taken! You have to figure things out for yourself!

- John: Have fun! If you really want to break the rules, you have to plan. Also,, break a lot of stuff when it's not catastrophic. When you have a great team, you can break a lot of stuff. When you have a great team, you can break a lot of stuff. Add value. Keep going. Be strategically lazy.

- Deanna: Be scrappy. Be vulnerable. Be authentic. Break the rules and then rebuild/reinvent it in your own way. Question everything.

Goals from our Guests

- Jennie: Give yourself some credit; stop trivializing your accomplishments

- Deanna: Be brave. Ask for something every day this week

- John: Give something away. Share your gifts and talents

Final Thoughts

- Deanna: Take a nap

- Jennie: Don't wait for things to be perfect

- John: Zoom fatigue is a myth
