How to Stop People Pleasing and Start Taking Care of Yourself
Empowerment Junction: Your Journey to Personal Growth and Motivation
01/26/24 • 14 min
No matter what you do, you’ll never make everyone happy.
Considering other people’s feelings and treating them with kindness is something we should all strive to do. But sacrificing our wellbeing to make others happy is not. When you compromise who you are and what you need, people-pleasing has crossed the line from kind and generous to self-abandonment — not being your authentic self because you’re afraid others will disapprove, criticise, or reject you.
In this episode, I touch on people pleasing signs and offer practical solutions to help you stop people pleasing.
According to Psychologists, the following 15 signs indicate you’re a people-pleaser
How many signs of people-pleasing do you recognise in yourself?
- You want everyone to like you.
- You over-apologise.
- You crave validation.
- You let people take advantage of you.
- You feel guilty or mean when you set boundaries.
- You’re afraid of conflict.
- You’ve always been a “good girl” (or guy); a rule-follower.
- You think self-care is optional.
- You feel tense, anxious, or on-edge.
- You expect yourself to be perfect and hold yourself to high standards.
- You put yourself last and don’t know how to ask for what you need.
- You’re sensitive to criticism.
- You think your feelings, needs, opinions, and ideas aren’t as important as other people’s
- You're a "fixer"; you hate to see anyone hurt, afraid, sad, or uncomfortable.
- You resent always being asked to do more and wish people would consider your feelings and needs.
Remember, you can’t make everyone happy. You can fool yourself for a while, just like I did. But at some point, what you really want and who you really are will catch up with you. If you give yourself permission to pursue what you really want, you can be more at peace with yourself and your life!.

Biblical Affirmations To Build Your Confidence & Transform Your Life
Empowerment Junction: Your Journey to Personal Growth and Motivation
03/01/24 • 20 min
Affirmations are statements (powerful words put together) that are meant to affect your behaviour and the course of your life in a positive way. The goal of repeating affirmations is to change your way of thinking (go from being negative to positive), change your habits, and create a better life.
Depending on yourself is necessary, but depending on God is life-changing.
Why?
- God is not human to fail, disappoint, or mislead you.
- God cares about you (after all, he created you!).
- Your own strength is not sufficient.
- God has the power to change your life.
Whenever we depend on God, He shows up and takes charge of everything, we see His power in full display, and He changes every bad situation, turning worse challenges into testimonies. Whenever we put our total dependence on God, He strengthens us, He becomes the power that influences our actions, and we have an extraordinarily fruitful result.
We don't need science to know there's power behind our thoughts-how our thoughts influence our lifestyle. We don't need science to know self- criticism has the power to hold us back in a multitude of ways.
What we need is a solution to fight back. This is why biblical affirmations are more powerful than regular affirmations. They don't depend on your strength, but on God's strength.
These affirmations are powerful biblical affirmations that I hope will help you:
- Believe, repeat and confess God's truth in a more personal way
- Dig into scripture and dive into prayer more
- Confess victory in your life
- Proclaim God's word with authority
- Remain faithful to God during victories and battles
