Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

I'm very interested in self-improvement, and not in a detached way. I believe self-help is the most revealing and most often overlooked facet of the American literary canon. Probably most importantly, since I was 14, I've been heavily inspired by the radio programs of the late Joe Frank, and the show is my humble tribute to his genius.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

Catharsis, poetry, paradox, dark humor, surrealism, and surprise.

Which episode should someone start with?

Don't start from the beginning! Anything before this year is a crapshoot. Start with Reciprocity Now or get the best-of collection.

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

I became a big fan of the show during mid-2023, with Fear of Death is the Beginning of All Foolishness, Ask a Sadist, and Reciprocity Now, and I know for a near-certainty that the best is yet to come.

Which episode are you most proud of?

Reciprocity Now

What is your vision for your show?

As the show gets better, I'm inspired to put more work into it. The episodes I have planned for 2024 are way, way more risky, complex, and well-thought-out than anything I've done previously.

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

Desert Oracle. The Duncan Trussell Family Hour. A few others.

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

Originally, I'd planned to focus on mental health, various psychopharmaceuticals I've tried, and other drug experiments, some of which I conducted live on the air. It's taken a broader focus since then, although those things still come up. "Medicated Minutes" is also a song by Smut Peddlers, from which I shamelessly cribbed the name.
