Episode 25 excerpt: "Get there and do the helicopter, honey."

We hit the big 2-5! We were lucky enough to have such an amazing guest to celebrate this milestone with us. Carla Hendrickson is a model, a dancer, a student, a cosmetologist, and to top it off, she's raising two kids by her DAMN SELF. We discuss being shitty teenagers, Carla's experience in modeling and exotic dancing, and what it's like raising both a son and daughter as such. We fed her mac and cheese waffles topped with a fried egg and drank lots of Bloody Marys!

Ingredients:

-boxed macaroni & cheese

(Full disclosure: the boxed stuff is fine; we plan to try some fancy ass Mac 'n' Cheese next time!)

Drunch - Drunch 47: F*ck This Panini
play

06/11/21 • 36 min

Your ears do not deceive you. We are back on our bullshit!

The panini of 2020 (which has now spilled into 2021) was a doozy. It took a huge toll on our mental health and we struggled hard. We have a few remotely-recorded episodes but it just wasn't the same. It was also super fun last year to learn a past guest was an abuser and protected another abuser. BELIEVE SURVIVORS. However, we're motivated now more than ever to keep being a platform for those that need it. We're leveling up with a new editor and TWO new advertisers! We're so excited for what this year will bring. Thanks for continuing to be a Drunch'r. We missed y'all.

Drunch - Drunch 48: Lu 4 u(2)
play

07/14/21 • 50 min

Episode 48 excerpt: “We have to work harder to push to get the changes that allow everyone to be seen as a valued member of society.”

It was a hot morning! We kept brunch cool with bowls of vegan vanilla yogurt, fresh fruit, and walnuts.

As most Eastern Washington natives, Lu moved away after college and quickly got into the non-profit world. It was there she learned how to really listen to what others' needs are and how to build inclusive policies before we had words for it. She found herself back in Spokane after a quick but immersed experience in rural Oregon and focused on Spokane's houseless issues through working with Empire Health Foundation.

This woman does it all - from consulting to cannabis and working with the LGBTQIA2S+ community serving as board president for Spectrum Center Spokane, she is incredibly impressive and compassionate. And now she's running for a District 3 seat on Spokane's City Council. Inspired to run by the events of summer of 2019, she aims to open the door for someone to do the same thing, someone who may have fewer opportunities. She delves into the anger, lack of community response, and how to be truly equitable.

Episode 36 excerpt: "We have to have more women running, we have to have more young women running, we have to have more competitive elections across the board because that's when the big policy conversations happen."

We end our long holiday weekend with delicious Bloody Marys and good conversation with Spokane native, Abigail Doerr. She recently ran for King County Council where transportation was a huge platform for her. She has an extensive background in transportation issues and has worked for Transportation Choices Coalition, where she led the campaign to pass Sound Transit 3. We nerded out on transportation hardcore (it's sexy AND important!), talked about her council campaign experience, and influences that led her to serve her communities.

Episode excerpt: However you have to tap into that feeling and make art and think, think that it means to alter your brain. That's art."

Artist, educator, and curator June joins us for some French toast and dark 'n' stormies to discuss the world of fine art, her teaching experiences near and far, and what it was like to meet Catherine Opie. She also discusses future (intense!) projects she would like to take on, how much better east coast bagels are, and proper gym etiquette.

Episode 34 excerpt: "Does this person spark joy?"

Planned Parenthood Senior Field Organizer Sarah D. joins us for gin+tonics and breakfast sandwiches on our 34th episode! Before her current role with PP, she was super active on campus at Whitworth University and started the Generation Action Club, and expressly discusses just how crucial adequate sex and reproductive health education is. We also talked about local politics, and how to handle family and friends with differing ideals. Oh, and we gushed about the Netflix show, Big Mouth, for a while.

Episde 24 excerpt: "I really feel like we don't need to be punching down, ever. Like, there's so much that you can make everyone laugh with and you don't need to be tearing someone down."

On our 24th episode, we sit down with Annica Clements Eagle, founder of the Spokane Punderground and world-ranked pun master in 2016 and 2017. Her punstory originates in Dad jokes and evolves to actual punning and improv. She shares her experiences in the local stand-up/improv scene, the toxicity that comes with it (SHOCKER!), and recites her world-ranking #MeToo pun. It's amazing and you NEED to hear it.

Drunch - Drunch 23: Janice, Get Your Gin
play

06/04/19 • 100 min

Episode 23 excerpt: "Let's stop teaching our children that everyone is a he or a she, and that is it."

Guess who's back. Back again. Janice is back. Tell a friend. That's right - special guest Janice is back and we drink lots and lots of gin Bloody Marys in solidarity and celebration of Janice having been gin-free the last 10 months. We talk at length about her cute ass new baby, male circumcision, and she takes us on a WILD tale about an ancestry DNA test that ends in a mysterious new family member. We also discuss drag queens in libraries and laugh at the people that want to keep them out of these public spaces.

Drunch - Drunch 35: Raging w/Rylie!
play

11/20/19 • 86 min

Episode 35 excerpt: "Just don't shit on other peoples' fandoms."

At Rylie's request, we ate cheese zombies and soaked up all those delicious carbs with mimosas (Lara is not from the PNW and did not know what a cheese zombie even was). Rylie also rants about self-checkouts (not a fan), Hanford shenanigans, bad first dates, and lesbian space crimes!
