Drop the Needle - Giving It Another Whirl
play

04/12/22 • 54 min

Our last new episode was released in December '19. Right after the holidays, the world shut down.

Between then and now, so much has happened with the three of us that it's almost hilarious if some of it wasn't so sad. (We have a lot to talk about, you guys.)  Anyway, this episode finds Paul setting the table for Season 6. Each week until the new season, we'll be running some of our favorite, previously unavailable episodes from years past, like this one.

But first: a discussion of why DtN is back and how it'll be different.
Next, you'll find our very first podcast recording ever: an hour-long interview with Mike, before we formally asked him to join as a co-host. It's somewhat naive and unpolished, but it's true and honest. If nothing else, it's a fun time capsule in all the same ways as it's a permanent document of our sobriety, circa 2017.

Fun fact: this episode has been in the Recycling Bin of Paul's Mac at least three times on accident, with no other versions saved anywhere. In other words, this is one lucky mp3 file.

It's been cleaned and remastered to the best of our ability, so please enjoy.

Drop the Needle - MINI-EPISODE: Freedom

MINI-EPISODE: Freedom

Drop the Needle

play

11/19/18 • 25 min

Sincerely, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for continuing to listen to our addiction recovery music podcast Drop the Needle. As it continues to reach new listeners, I can't fully put into words how we feel about hearing the stories people want to share with this for doing this show. We really can't ask for anything more than that, so we'll just keep doing this. In this minisode, we revisit the topic of Freedom (first posted by Sean Paul Mahoney back in April). Listen to the new episode here: https://goo.gl/oHRUoh or wherever podcasts can be found.

In this one, we share tunes from Rostam, Operators and an ultra-rare pick from co-host Mike: Burial. (Drop the Needle does not own or claim ownership of any music used in this podcast. All rights go to original owner.)

Drop the Needle - Freedom (Guest: Sean Paul Mahoney)
play

04/14/18 • 58 min

Portland-based recovery writer Sean Paul Mahoney visited our show to discuss the topic of "Freedom" and how the word doesn't simply relate to drugs or alcohol. In this episode, Mahoney shares stories that are simultaneously hilarious, heartfelt and occasionally horrifying. He even made sure that all three of his song choices were as memorable and unique as he is. In addition to writing at his popular blog Seanologues, Mahoney is launching a podcast with the same name, where he talks about pop culture, music, movies, television, travel, sobriety and whatever else he feels like. It's also worth noting that Mahoney is a playwright, tweeter, critic and self-described "smartass for hire." You can follow him at Twitter (@seanpaulmahoney) or find him on Facebook. Artists in this episode include Kacey Musgraves, M83, Sister Sledge, Robyn and (you're reading this correctly) Salt-N-Pepa! Buckle up.
