On September 29th, 1978, Mary Vincent was hitchhiking and accepted a ride from Larry Singleton. She survived a violent attack where he cut her arms off and Larry served eight years of his fourteen-year sentence. He later murdered Roxanne Hayes on February 19th, 1997 and was sentenced to death, but he died in prison in 2001.

In March of 1979, the trial began, and he was found guilty on seven counts, but the state had recently passed new sentencing laws, so the most he could be sentenced to was 14 years in prison.
