Valerie Carrillo, a student, and full-time caregiver takes a leap of faith into the unknown world of NFTs after her boyfriend introduces her to GaryVee's Vee Friends project, quickly learning the ropes of the space and connecting with other like-minded people.
Valerie Carrillo is the founder of San Diego NFT Friends and spoke at San Diego NFT Con. She was a full-time student and struggling mentally after the loss of her mother. When her boyfriend Keegan told her about NFTs, she decided to give it a shot and research the space. She ended up being gifted her first NFT from Gary Vee and has since been involved in the community, attending Vee Con and meeting other talented women in the space.

Because here I was a full-time student, didn't have a job, and living off of my savings and my loans. So at the time, he (Keegan) told me that GaryVee recommended getting between .5 to one ETH (Ethereum), and at that time was a little over $4000. So that was a lot for me to put into some new platform that I've never even heard of before. And so I was very hesitant, and I said, you know, I don't think this is for me. Think I I'm going to have to skip out on this opportunity. But he said, “you know what, don't worry. Gary Vee is actually going to do a giveaway. Just get in his Discord and join his community.” The rest is history.
