Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

Dina: My initial thought was that a story telling and movie heckling show was something my dad and I always wanted to do (weird science theater is my favorite segment we do because of this personal connection). When the idea was presented on Twitter by Raine, and Daniel jumped all in I was super excited about it. Being able to turn it into something we were both mutually enthusiastic about, like books and writing, in addition to stories and comedy, was a fantastic result.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

Dina: I hope that they get several laughs and boosts of oxytocin from our stories and that they learn helpful information about the publishing industry. Maybe they even pick up some great new books along the way.

Which episode should someone start with?

Dina: Episode 55 the one where we redid episode 1 because episode 1 is not a true reflection of our current quality. Or our one year anniversary episode that has tons of fun clips from our first year so people get the main jokes we carry throughout each episode.

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

Dina: I can’t pick just one so I will go with The One with RDD Cowboys and Poop Jokes, any episode with Peter-Shaun Tyrell, and The One with Emily Hoffmann.

Which episode are you most proud of?

Dina: The One Where Dina Escapes A Cult

What is your vision for your show?

Dina: I’d like to be one of the main go-to podcasts for writing and comedic storytelling for writers and readers alike.

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

Dina: I don’t get to listen to podcasts too often thanks to reading for our show, my own writing, and then working two jobs, however, when I have time I love both Quarantine Movie Club and Ear Biscuits.

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

Dina: “Don’t make it weird” was actually one of the first messages that Daniel ever sent me on Twitter. He was apologizing if sliding into my DMs while barely knowing me was weird and awkward as he didn’t mean it in any way other than wanting to be friends and support my writing career. The phrase has been the motto of our friendship since that day.

Tell us a bit about yourself

Dina: I like to think I’m funny, but I’m not actually. I’m an author with an affinity for dinosaurs and adventure which usually just means I’m getting into impossible to believe scenarios that cause immense stress and lots of laughs after the fact.

I love this show. But also I’m biased because I’m in this show. So don’t trust me. But maybe trust my mom. Because she also loves this show, and she’s a damn saint.

This is absolutely one of my all-time favorite shows. The hosts have incredible chemistry, and their relationships are just so wonderful and hilarious. The game segments are always so much fun and constantly have me yelling answers and laughing like an idiot. I love this friggin show.
