24 - Orgasms Do Not Equal Sexual Satisfaction
Do We Know Things?
10/26/20 • 20 min
Think of your last sexual encounter, either by yourself or someone else. What do remember? What was the best part? Was it the orgasm? What if you didn’t have an orgasm? Would that be a disappointment? Can you have good sex without orgasms? Can you have bad sex with orgasms?
We often equate orgasms with sexual satisfaction, but isn’t there more to sex than orgasms? On this episode, I will go into ridiculous detail about what orgasms are, talk about bad orgasms, and also explore what actually makes for great sex.

22 - Virginity isn't Real
Do We Know Things?
09/28/20 • 32 min
What is virginity? Judging by the media, it's a pretty big deal! Hundreds of songs are written about it. Every TV teen drama has that very special episode where the two leads decide to do it (or not). Whole movies are based on the premise of horny guys trying to "get some" for the first time. But what if I told you virginity isn't real? That's right! Despite everything you've watched, listened to, and read about virginity being this huge deal... it's not a thing!

10 - COVID-19, Sex, & Relationships
Do We Know Things?
03/30/20 • 31 min
It seems like all anyone can talk about these days is the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. One way I thought I could add a voice of reason to the discussions about COVID-19 is to talk about some of the information about COVID-19, sex and relationships that I have seen circulating around on the internet. Like things about sex boosing your immune function. Spoiler alert, we don't actually know! I will also talk about New York City’s safer sex memo, and some research on relationships and on loneliness.
Before I dive into the research, I talk about studies on COVID-19 sex and relationships that you can participate in right now! And also Jeremy and I talk about our pandemic and social-isolation coping.

Mini-episode - The Serotonin Addendum
Do We Know Things?
12/27/21 • 8 min
What do we actually know about serotonin and infatuation? On the last episode, I explored the neuroscience of infatuation and explored possible myths, which turned out to be mostly true. But I was left with additional questions about serotonin. It turns out, we don’t know as much as I thought about serotonin and love. The links between serotonin and love seem to be a story we have told so many times, we forgot it’s mostly just a story.

1 - Orgasms from PVI
Do We Know Things?
11/25/19 • 22 min
Media depictions of heterosexual sex are all about penile-vaginal-intercourse (PVI), which always seems to lead to mind-blowing orgasms for women. Sex educators say only about 25% of women have orgasms from PVI, though. Where does that number come from? Is it accurate?

6 – Who Wants Sex More?
Do We Know Things?
02/03/20 • 27 min
Do men really want sex more than women?
It's a widely-endorsed stereotype that you'll find everywhere from great literature to teen romantic comedies. Men of all sexual orientations being complete lust monsters that can't control themselves while women are vanguards of purity blocking men's advances or tragically succumbing to lesbian bed death.
Of course the reality is much more complicated than horny dudes and prudish women. On this episode we'll dive into the research on gender and lust, check our cultural biases, and see what we can learn from the animal kingdom.

Questions from a Confused Monogamist
Do We Know Things?
10/11/21 • 40 min
This is the 3rd episode in a 3-part series on monogamy and nonmonogamy. In this episode I will explain consensual nonmonogamy (CNM), which can be broadly defined as any type of relationship where people are having sexual, romantic, or intimate relationships with more than one person. As a researcher, educator, and practitioner of CNM, I am used to thinking about and talking about it all the time, so to get some perspective, I brought in my monogamous podcast collaborator, Matt Tunnacliffe to ask questions from a somewhat confused monogamist.

Love is Blind and Birth Control is Complicated
Do We Know Things?
03/04/24 • 16 min
On the last episode of DWKT, I promised an episode on the menstrual cycle, but something urgent came up. That urgent matter was the birth control discussion on Love is Blind season 6. One of the couples decides not to have penis-vagina sex because they really, really don't want to get pregnant. At first I judged them, but then thanks to an Instagram post, I came around and realized I was a jerk. Listen as I talk about why we shouldn't judge them, comment on the horror that is sex ed and reproductive health in the U.S., and give a crash course on birth control.
