Welcome to another episode of The DNA Of Purpose Podcast. For those of you who have been following this podcast for quite some time, you would know that I have been on a mission since day one to unpack purpose from every perspective possible, and 87 episodes in I think it is fair to say that I have done exactly that. Nonetheless, there is one perspective that I have left uncharted until today and one of the reasons for that is because only a handful of human beings have had the privilege of seeing themselves and the world from space or more specifically from Saturn.Today, I am feeling incredibly honoured to interview not only a globally renowned planetary scientist but also an extraordinary human who through both trial and transformation has pathed the way for women all over the world to pursue careers in science and technology. She has worked alongside revolutionary scientists such as Carl Sagan, with whom she collaborated on the world-famous Pale Blue Dot image of Earth taken in 1990, and her name is synonymous with the planet Saturn and the travels thereof the Cassini spacecraft from 2004 to 2017. In 2012 she was named one of the 25 most influential people in space by Time magazine, and this is only one of many accolades. Her name is Carolyn Porco and she is an American planetary scientist who is renowned for exploring the outer Solar System, beginning with her imaging work on the Voyager missions to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune in the 1980s. She also led the imaging science team on NASA’s Cassini mission in orbit around Saturn. This was a monumental moment for women in science and one for women of influence. The kind that ignites human progress.Carolyn was also the founder of The Day the Earth Smiled,a first-of-its-kind event held in 2013, during which the Cassini spacecraft slipped into Saturn's shadow and turned to image the planet, seven of its moons, its main rings -- and, in the background, our home planet, Earth, while people the world over celebrated. This image was not only a personal reprise of the original Pale Blue Dot, which she dedicated to her colleague Sagan [https://youtu.be/fzdkzkfGnko], but one that enabled all of humanity to see ourselves through the vastness of space, feel connected to each other and all of life on Earth, and appreciate the significance of our own existence and the place to which we belong. In today's conversation, Carolyn and I traverse through so many layers of understanding the universe from a scientific perspective but also understanding ourselves at a deeper level through the eyes of space. Carolyn is a scientist first, and thus honours her research as sacred, yet at the same time, her insights and wisdom are full of soul. And while it may seem obvious to think a woman who has spent a lifetime observing the wonder of space would be the first to advocate human inhabitants in space, the exact opposite is true. In her words when it comes to Earth, there is no planet B. We must care for our home.So without further delay, I am beyond privileged to introduce you to today's guests. The one and only Carolyn Porco.Social Media:Twitter - @carolynporcoFacebook: carolynporcoWebsites:http://carolynporco.comhttp://ciclops.orgIf you would like updates on upcoming episodes as they are released in addition to good news posts from the world of science and technology please follow along at our instagram page which @dnaofpurposepodcast or sign up to our newsletter at futurecrunch.com. Today I am excited to chat with a friend, a colleague and one of the most highly regarded authorities in the world of business influence and communication. His name is Jon Yeo, and he is an Executive Communications Coach and Licensee of TEDxMelbourne. He is also someone I would consider to be a translator of the space between business influence and emerging technologies revolutionising thought leadership.

In working with leaders of all kinds, Jon focuses on building trust, empathy and engagement using an analytics approach to speaking and mastering influence online, onstage, and in life. He describes himself as a Radical inclusionist, and I can attest that everything he does is 100% focused on igniting human progress.

Before today's interview, I had the pleasure of working with Jon as a part of the Tedx community and our work together as facilitators for the Speakers Institute and every time I have met him...I have had a deep curiosity to want to learn more about his perspectives on business and, more broadly, about the world.

As an optimized leader, he exudes a calm and quiet influence. With Jon, I always feel I am in the presence of a wise sage. He has done the work and mastered his art through deep research, observation and execution. Integrity is at the foundation of not only who he is but also how he shows up in the world. Jon has a rare ability as a leader to hold space not to speak - but to be in a deep conversation with an audience. A transfer of energy that transforms every person in a room. And today, he shares with us exactly how he does that....which is so essential....because when we understand this, we know the gravity we have to lead the very change we seek. The kind of change the world needs today more so than ever before.

Welcome to the podcast Jon Yeo.

One of the things I like most about being a part of Future Crunch is that I get to meet a lot of very smart people. People who have an innate ability to provide clear, critical and intelligent analysis of big future trends. Today, I was lucky enough to lock down an hour with one of those extraordinary minds for this podcast.

His name is Matt Kuperholz and alongside being one of the most innovative minds on the application of machine learning technologies and data analysis for business he is also one of the nicest people I have met.

Matt is formally trained in actuarial science and computer science. His technical skills in these fields have been honed and expanded over 30 years of consulting with top-tier companies to make him an expert in planning, executing and communicating the results of advanced data analytics. He has also worked as the Chief Data Scientist, and in the highest echelons of leadership for Australia’s most prominent consulting firms.

Matt’s area of specialization is the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to detailed and complex data. In 2015, he was honoured by Malcolm Turnbull and Australian Chief Scientist Alan Finkel as one of the Knowledge Nation 100, a group of innovators and entrepreneurs helping to shape Australia’s new economy.

Now, there is no denying that Matt's CV is impressive, but the best thing about Matt is his innate ability to translate complexity so that leaders looking to better understand data science, machine learning and AI are unable to make sense of what to some may feel like unknown terrain.

In today's podcast Matt and I...

  • Get inside the data economy. What is it, and how does it work?
  • We explore how data can solve real-world leadership challenges.
  • We look at predictive analytics alongside ethics and transparency with regard to data.
  • As leaders, what is the best practice for integrating artificial intelligence in the workplace?
  • We explore the intersection between optimism and innovation, with a focus on how machine learning, AI and the Internet of Things is creating positive transformation for people and the planet.

So, today, get ready to get OPTIMIZED in the best kind of way with the incredible Matt Kuperholz. Welcome to the podcast.

I'm thrilled to introduce Joey Mak, the CEO Of Chicago Blend. Chicago:Blend is a nonprofit organisation working to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in Chicago’s venture capital and startup community. They measure the VC diversity gap, help underrepresented professionals secure VC jobs and are building a growing community of investors who share our commitment to improving the industry.

Before joining Blend in 2021, Joey was the vice president of programs at the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, where he created their diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative and oversaw the Chamber’s COVID-19 economic recovery task force. He served as director of innovation & economic development for the University of Illinois System and as a deputy director at the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity.

Today Joey and I embark on a journey through the critical landscape of diversity, equity, and inclusion in venture capital. We'll explore the personal narratives driving this mission, dissect the challenges hindering inclusive cultures, and highlight the imperative role diversity plays in investment decisions. DNA Of Purpose - Optimized: The Evolution Of The DNA Of Purpose
play

10/21/22 • 10 min

It has been a while since I have dropped an episode. And in that time, I discovered something interesting. I talked about one core theme for 108 episodes of The DNA Of Purpose. That purpose is an energy in motion, and that our purpose evolves just as we do. What I didn't factor into that conversation was that sometimes something needs to die to evolve. Sometimes that something is a story, a belief or a pattern of behaviour. In other cases, it might be a project, a job or a business. The Great Resignation is a testament to the fact that there are chapters in our life where we rethink everything we thought we knew or everything we are currently doing. When I released the last episode of DNA Of Purpose in April off this year, I had no idea it would be the final episode of that iteration of the podcast. Quite simply, what happened was that my life was evolving faster than the podcast - and that evolution was fundamentally changing me. Professionally it has been an exciting year of levelling up as a speaker, with the excitement of once again being on stage and connecting with real human beings. Yet, personally, it has also been a year of great loss with family members and friends passing. I also turned 40 - and somehow realized that I was staring at an hourglass, watching time pass me by, showing with purpose, but somehow inside of me I knew there was more. That there was something else. Since then I have followed the breadcrumbs... Essentially, I knew I wanted to play a bigger game. One that incorporated a more integrated version of me, fusing my passion for purpose alongside my professional experience as an authority in the world of business influence and as an advocate for the power of intelligent optimism. I just knew that when the trinity of purpose, optimism and influence come together in a leadership capacity, we empower people not only to be the change the world needs....but to lead it. Welcome To The New Age of Optimization. Optimized - A podcast for leaders who believe that the future belongs to optimists Spend any time on the internet or watching the news, and you'll get the sense that the world is falling apart. Is that true? The answer might surprise you. Humanity is doing a lot better than we think. It's just that we're not hearing much about it. Optimized is a podcast that explores why intelligent optimism is an essential leadership quality in times of great uncertainty. Cynics might sound smart, but in reality are taking the easy way out. By contrast, optimistic leaders look beyond the events in front of them, prioritize solutions over problems and guide people through the current crisis. Optimists move the world forward – they always have. In this podcast, we explore why intelligent optimism is a must-have for anyone hoping to drive change in today's world. I will be interviewing respected, purpose-driven leaders, entrepreneurs and changemakers from around the planet to understand how to attract and retain talent, ignite innovation, amplify adaptability and transform the world's biggest problems into opportunities.
