DJ Nocturna Presents Queen of Wands

DJ Nocturna Presents Queen of Wands

DJ Nocturna

Welcome to my podcast ! This podcast is for anyone and everyone who embodies or wants to embody the energies of the Queen and King of Wands. Quiet and intense, the Queen and King of Wands are the fiery divine counterparts in the tarot deck. Passionate, powerful, spiritual, charismatic, generous, confident, grateful, friendly, outgoing, creative, ambitious, enthusiastic, optimistic and a leader, the Queen of Wands rules the fire element corresponding to the signs of Sagittarius, Aries and Leo in Western Astrology. The Queen of Wands was inspired by Shannon, an intuitive and empath, soul mentor. Like the Queen and King of Wands, we are all connected by energy and in our spiritual journeys, we contribute to each other’s path of evolution and development in some way shape or form. Psychiatrist and author, M. Scott Peck, best defined this connection through LOVE in The Road Less Traveled as “The will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.” Hosted by DJ Nocturna, this show will focus on LOVE and inspiration, as it relates to the world of entertainment and passion. It is the dark creative passionate inspiration that Spanish poet, Federico Garcia Lorca called Duende. In his In Search of Duende, he said, “All that has black sounds has duende.. that mysterious force that everyone feels and no philosopher can explain.” We are motivated to pursue something we love, that yearning of the soul, whether it be in art, literature, music, dance, etc... If we are not passionate about it, then we wouldn’t pursue it. This podcast will feature music, interviews, the arts, fashion, theatre, film, food, wine, drinks and creative projects. This podcast will also feature discussions and interviews relating to the spiritual realm and evolution of the soul that’s both enlightening and entertaining. Thank you for your support and for listening to this podcast !

DJ Nocturna Presents Queen of Wands - Interview with Ryan Policky from goth, shoe gaze band, A Shoreline Dream
play

09/24/22 • 21 min

Iconic shoe gaze/postpunk collective A Shoreline Dream Ryan Policky and Erik Jeffries just released the full LP called "Loveblind" via Latenight Weekend Records following their critically acclaimed album "Melting" (2020).

The sixth full-length album from the prog-goth shoegazers dives into the recollections and desires of the past while gazing in a wash of sound waves pointed towards a blinding future. Recorded from November 2021 - July 2022 in the Barnum suburb of Denver, Colorado, the single previously released "Alarms Stop Ringing" is accompanied by a video filmed at the Best Little Boarding House and Black Monarch Hotel in Victor, Colorado. The Black Monarch is a goth hotel dream-come-true, frequented by Nikola Tesla back in his day, and The Best Little Boarding House is a converted brothel that is probably the most haunted place in the city (Just try staying asleep through the night!)," says Ryan Policky.

Over the years, A Shoreline Dream has churned out numerous acclaimed releases, working with legends such as Ulrich Schnauss, Mark Kramer and The Engineers (for whom they created a remix for progressive label gods K-Scope). They also opened for Chapterhouse for their very final appearance. 'Loveblind' reaches for that same energy, taking cues from previous A Shoreline Dream works released over the past 16 years, drawing more from their progressive goth roots. Layers of moodiness, blissfulexplosions of rock and chugging tempo mix with the pain, love, hope and moments of neardeath experienced while creating the album itself.

London-based trio, Decommissioned Forests is a collaboration between post-progressive multi-instrumentalist Daniel Vincent (The Resonance Association), industrial electro-punk Max Rael (History Of Guns) and experimental musician, CG artist, and film-maker Howard Gardner (Non-Bio, Pillars of Golden Misery). Brought together by a shared love of outsider luminaries such as Coil, Current 93, Cluster, Nine Inch Nails, Nurse With Wound and Throbbing Gristle, they have been making music together since 2018.

Their new album, "Industry" is an ambient- infused, post-industrial journey through uneasy electronica, accompanied by a sometimes bleak, sometimes hopeful spoken-word narration. Each member of the band contributes to their unique sound.

DJ Nocturna Presents Queen of Wands - London Based Alternative-Psychedelic Rock INTERVIEW WITH SABATTA | YINKYA OYEWOLE
play

02/20/24 • 24 min

SABATTA is the musical project of London based alternative -psychedelic rock artist guitarist and songwriter Yinka Oyewole . He released his debut album "Middle of The Night" in 2015 in which the album's lead single "Politician" garnered national play on BBC 6 Music, setting the band off touring nationally.
SABATTA recently released his latest album called "How to Get Even" via Blackfriars Entertainment. Raised in Essex and is of Nigerian lineage, he crafts a raw and individual sound with spiky guitar and an inimitable voice, like a mix of Hendrix, QOTSA and early RedHot Chili Peppers, strained through the sieve of South London. It's no wonder with musical influences ranging from Curtis Mayfield, Prince, Tupac and Hendrix to Bad Brains, Thin Lizzy, Parliament / Funkadelic and Black Sabbath.
Produced and mixed by Oyewole, this latest album was recorded
by Alex Franklinos at Shrunken Heads Studio (King Krule, Ghostpoet, Songdog, Domino Records) and mastered at London's EC Mastering (Sony, Universal, BBC)

"The magic of the stars could not have been more aligned in this collaboration blending classical music beautifully orchestrated with ethereal dreampop and passionate haunting vocals. Dark and melancholy... yet beautiful that sees the dawn of the new light. " DJ Nocturna
Marselle Hodges is the acclaimed vocalist and lyricist for the Seattle-based dreampop-noir band, The Blue Hour. Marselle collaborated with the legendary Dutch composer, 4AD artist and one of the founding members of CLAN OF XYMOX, Pieter Nooten with a new album called Anonymity. Pieter has since released several solo albums including his seminal ambient album "Sleeps with the Fishes" with Michael Brooks also released on 4AD in 1987, just to name a few. Anonymity is the 6 track album that's set to be released on May 7, 2021.

I got a chance to ask Pieter Nooten some questions and here are his responses:
-
Pieter, what are some of the influences in composing the music for these songs ?
I have been composing instrumental, ambient and neo-classical music for the last few years and really needed to create something more EDM sounding, without a copyist signature. I wanted vocals on these demos and started looking for a special voice, something original and authentic, without having to deal with all these ‘thirteen a dozen’ kind of r&b sounding singers. Marselle immediately came into mind.
-Are you happy with the album after it was completed and it is what you expected ?
When Marselle sent me her first vocal ideas I was over the moon and yes, relieved, for it sounded exactly what I had in mind. I instantly started sending her more material. The results were all spot-on and wonderfully original, heartfelt and authentic. My only worries were the initial mixes; they just did not sound good enough. I asked Brian Hodges if he would have a go at producing these tracks and he totally nailed it! So, even though the music was originally written by me, Marselle and Brian put the icing on the cake, so to speak. Marselle’s voice and lyrics are essential; it is af if we sat in the same room and created this material, Brian included. All our ideas just blended perfectly.
-Would you like to share any new inspirations or any new projects, concerts, collaboration, etc coming up for you ?
Concerts are still a bit difficult in this time and age, but I am more productive than ever! Currently I am working on more solo material as well as a great collaboration between me, Joshua (former Azar Swan/Vaura) and former His Name Is Alive frontman Warren Defever, which is going to be very dark and down-beat material.

DJ Nocturna Presents Queen of Wands - Interview with Greg Jarvis from The Flowers Of Hell

Interview with Greg Jarvis from The Flowers Of Hell

DJ Nocturna Presents Queen of Wands

play

09/25/23 • 31 min

Toronto-London based experimental group, The Flowers of Hell, founded by Greg Jarvis release their latest album called "Keshakhtaran" via Space Age Recordings. "The Flowers of Hell" is rooted in an old blues idea about how music transforms the misery and toil of musicians into the joy of listeners, as well as Baudelaire's poetry book called, "Les Fleurs Du Mal."
"Keshakhtaran," meaning "seeking nirvana through meditation to sound, especially when you're stoned," is suitably named. The album presents a 42-minute instrumental psilocybin meditation piece in two parts, rooted in sax, flugel horn, chimes, harp, sitar and opera soprano vocals, augmented with tremolos, flutters, horns, woodwinds, strings and percussion. The album was mastered by Grammy recipient Peter J. Moore (Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Joe Strummer).

For the past 18 years, The Flowers Of Hell have traversed the experimental edges of indie, classical and jazz, with music often rooted in the audio-visual synesthesia of Jarvis. Despite relative obscurity, they have been championed by music legends such as Lou Reed, Sonic Boom, Kevin Shields and members of The Legendary Pink Dots, Death In Vegas, The Wedding Present, The Fugs and The Plastic People Of The Universe, not to mention support from NASA's Mission Control team and the Tate Gallery.

THE FLOWERS OF HELL also released their deluxe first vinyl pressing of Lou Reed-endorsed "Odes" album for Record Store Day UK. "Odes," pays tribute to The Joy Division, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Stereolab, Laurie Anderson, The Velvet Underground, Siouxsie & the Banshees and Neutral Milk Hotel, among others.
