Debt, Deficits, DOGE
Discerning What Is Best with Dr Rex M Rogers

The U.S. National Debt is at this writing, over $36.6 Trillion, and climbing so fast you cannot keep up with the digital read-out at usdebtclock.org. That's over $107K per citizen. Yet most in the national leadership, Congress and the President, have for decades blithely continued to add to this debt with oft-times outrageous spending bills - witness what occurred during the. Biden Administration - for which there is no identified funding. The U.S. debt is ignored and new programs are "funded" by borrowing against the future in a classic kick-the-can-down-the-road fashion, one that dumps the problem of responsibility, potential bankruptcy and collapse, and pain onto our progeny. DOGE, the Trump-appointed Department of Government Efficiency, is now working full speed ahead on reducing this national debt by identifying "waste, fraud, and abuse" in the federal bureaucracy. Needless to say, this has created a whole new cottage industry of Chicken Littles running around claiming the sky is falling and the end of the world. But is this happening, or is the U.S. experiencing a dose of common sense rationality that, if allowed to play out, might just keep the country around for our grandchildren? Christian Organization Statements— Doctrinal, Lifestyle, Position—Then and Now
Discerning What Is Best with Dr Rex M Rogers
08/07/23 • 9 min
Most Christian organizations, at least in the recent past, operate with foundational documents, not only bylaws but doctrinal statements, maybe a staff lifestyle statement, and possibly position statements on matters key to their mission. This is not news. What is news is that now, given rapid social or should we say moral change, many Christian foundational statements are ill-prepared and out of date. For example, while they may talk about alcoholic beverages, they typically did not speak to legalized marijuana, or while they might refer in the past to gambling, now gambling has gone mainstream and "everybody does it." More concerning, however, are social developments re abortion, LGBTQ+, same-sex marriage, sexual orientation and gender identity aka SOGI. Christian organizations, the conservative ones anyway, the ones that want to maintain fidelity to the Scripture, are working or need to work toward revising their foundational statements in a manner that addresses these new issues. Not to do so puts the organization at legal if not moral risk. For more Christian commentary, check my website at rexmrogers.com.

Truth Speaks to Irrationality
Discerning What Is Best with Dr Rex M Rogers
05/24/23 • 6 min
Contemporary American, if not Western, culture is engaged in a pellmell rush to embrace nearly everything historic cultures considered lacking in common sense. I call this a celebration of irrationality. It goes to worldview. The current cultural zeitgeist has rejected moral absolutes for moral relativism. Many negative social pathologies result. American culture cannot long sustain itself upon these baseless, senseless ideas, attitudes, values, and practices. For more Christian commentary, check my website at rexmrogers.com.

Western Nations and Mass Immigration
Discerning What Is Best with Dr Rex M Rogers
07/22/24 • 9 min
In the past decade, Western European nations and more recently during the Biden Administration in the U.S., the West has opened its borders to a literal flood of aliens or immigrants or migrants or refugees, or in the case of the US illegals, or undocumented or "newcomers," whatever the politically correct phrase. The logic used by political elites who endorsed and made possible this illogical behavior goes to multiculturalism, fear of population decline and tanking economies, and moral relativism. The number of unvetted immigrants from cultures with contrary values is causing disruption and may alter the identity of given nations. What is a wise policy regarding immigration? The Unique American Experience and Christianity
Discerning What Is Best with Dr Rex M Rogers
11/18/24 • 9 min
America has called the "First New Nation," a "Great Experiment," and a Christian nation. Each of these phrases have been the source of extensive historical research. Whatever your preference, clearly biblical Christianity made an enormous impact upon not onlly the United States but Western Civilization. The USA, God be praised, is still a land where religious liberty is honored, and with it freedom of speech. It is a place where all people, including Christians, can learn to discern how their faith can contribute to lives and culture. May this struggle, this Great Experiment, continue. Meant For Evil, God Meant For Good--The Cross An International Symbol of Hope
Discerning What Is Best with Dr Rex M Rogers
09/19/23 • 9 min
In ancient Egypt, Joseph told his petrified brothers, "You meant it for evil but God meant it for good." God can do this, and he does it regularly, turning the evil intentions of mankind toward fulfilling his purposes. No better example of this exists than the crucifixion cross, Jesus's instrument of pain, sacrifice, and death that has become an international symbol of redemption and hope. Responsible Christian Patriotism
Discerning What Is Best with Dr Rex M Rogers
07/04/23 • 9 min
Everyone is patriotic, though listening to the Left today you might not know this. The key is what we are patriotic about - and for America, this is our founding ideals: freedom of religion, freedom of speech, assembly, and association, life, liberty, and justice for all. Developing a responsible Christian patriotism is one way to express our gratitude for a country for whom so many have sacrificed to give us so much. When We Are Afraid
Discerning What Is Best with Dr Rex M Rogers
02/07/23 • 6 min
Have you ever been afraid? I have. It's especially discomforting when it involves a loved one facing an illness or if it is prolonged. But the Lord said he will never leave us nor forsake us. And the Psalmist David reminded us that when we are afraid we can trust in God. There is much in the Psalms about facing life's fears. The key is to tell God about our anxieties but not stay immersed in them. Rather we tell God and then, as David did, we rehearse the character, works, and promises of God, again and again as needed. Responding To Betrayal
Discerning What Is Best with Dr Rex M Rogers
03/16/22 • 9 min
Betrayal is part of life in a sinful world. It comes to us all. And it hurts.
Plus, though hard to admit and consider, we have likely betrayed others.
Most of us likely would agree that betrayal on the face of it is not a good thing, so how should we respond to betrayal in a manner that hopefully heals, but above all, honors the Lord?
It's not easy, not the natural response, but then again, God wants us to be not natural but spiritual. So he provided us with ways to deal with betrayal.

What Is A Woman? Yes, We've Come to This
Discerning What Is Best with Dr Rex M Rogers
07/17/23 • 9 min
"What is a woman?" is the title and question/theme of a June 2022 documentary produced and narrated by conservative commentator Matt Walsh. It would seem like a nonsensical question, or one part of a comedy bit, or maybe a set-up for a spiel about the value and virtues of women. But it is none of this. It is a question that just a decade ago did not need to be asked, but now, yes, in American culture we've come to this. For Walsh, it is the question of our generation. He interviews a wide variety of people including academics, simply asking the question that then-SCOTUS nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, in March 2022, chose to answer with, "I'm not a biologist." The roots of the question, and confusion behind it, are the LGBTQ+ movement's, supported by media elite and many within the Democratic Party, wholesale rejection of science, truth, religion, thousands of years of human history, and not to be forgotten--reality--i.e., that human beings are sexually binary, either a man or woman at birth. Walsh has been verbally and abusively attacked by liberals and the Left for exercising his freedom of speech simply by asking a question, along with what is truth?
This is a 90-minute documentary well worth watching. It's a worthwhile, thought-provoking, in some sense sad, film, one that hopefully will encourage many to return to common sense.
