Barbara Chatzkel is the President of the New River Group. For more than thirty years she has been helping organizations improve and achieve excellence. She is an experienced Executive and Team Business Coach, specializing in organizational transition and change. She is also an expert trainer in the application of evidence-based research to correctional practice, strategic planning, team building, quality assessment, and effective organizational communication. Prior to forming the New River Group, Barbara retired from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in 2000 as the National Director of Quality. She led multiple reengineering teams for IRS that saved taxpayers millions of dollars and streamlined processing time from months to hours. She is also very active in the community as a Judge for the Southwest Alliance for Excellence (www.swae.org), Treasurer of the National Hospice Regatta Alliance (www.hospiceregattas.org), Phoenix Sister Cities Disabilities Awareness Committee member, and a graduate of Valley Leadership Class 35. She has recently been named one of the 2015 Top Ten Business Women by the American Business Women's Association (ABWA). Her interest in business body language has been longstanding. She developed her expertise through union negotiations, handling difficult personnel situations, facilitating hundreds of small and large meetings, and coaching business leaders and teams for more than 20 years. Barbara holds a B.A. in Political Science and an MPA. She studied for and passed her PMP as part of her rehab from brain surgery. She has taught meditation, mindfulness, creativity, and non-violence for organizations, schools, and within the prison system. She is co-founder of Manzanita Village Retreat and Five Changes. As someone of mixed Japanese and European heritage, she passionately believes that we can come into our beauty and power by thinking outside all the boxes that we have been squeezed into; and that authentic self-expression means integrating every aspect of your life.
